BPS Seeking Witnesses of Collision

The Brantford Police Service is investigating a collision that occurred at approximately 3:35 p.m., Saturday, March 9, 2024, in the area of St. Paul Avenue and St. George Street. 

A vehicle was involved in a collision with a pedestrian. The pedestrian suffered serious injuries. 

The driver of the vehicle remained on scene. 

Police are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision. Anyone with information, including dashcam or surveillance footage of the collision, is asked to contact Constable Shane SEIBERT at 519-756-0113 ext. 2204.

MISSING: Amber, 32

The Brantford Police Service are seeking the public’s assistance in locating a missing person, 32-year-old, Amber.

Amber is described as female, white, 5’3”, 125lbs, thin build, short blonde hair, blue eyes, and has several tattoos. 

Amber was last seen in the area of the Sherwood Motel, located at 797 Colborne Street, Brantford, at approximately 2:30 a.m. on March 17, 2024.

The Brantford Police Service are concerned for Amber’s well-being and are seeking assistance from anyone who may have information which may assist in locating the missing person.

UPDATE – Stolen firearm recovered; police continue to seek information to identify suspect

Brantford police continue to investigate the theft of a firearm and seek information from the public to help identify the suspect. The stolen firearm has now been recovered by police.

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of a stolen firearm from a Market Street residence.

Information was received to indicate one male suspect entered the residence and is alleged to have stolen a 12-guage shotgun, described as a "Canuk Defender”. The suspect was photographed riding a bicycle – please see attached photo.

The suspect remains outstanding and is described as follows:
  • Male, average build, wearing a unique gold and orange winter coat.

As part of a separate drug trafficking investigation, members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team executed a search warrant at a West Street residence, where the stolen firearm was recovered.

Officers continue to seek information from the public in an effort to identify the individual who stole the firearm. ORIGINAL RELEASE: Brantford police seek to identify suspect

Brantford police are investigating the theft of a firearm and are seeking information from the public to help identify the suspect.

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 11:00 a.m., members of the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of a stolen firearm from a Market Street residence.

Information was received to indicate one male suspect entered the residence and is alleged to have stolen a 12-gauge shotgun, described as a "Canuk Defender”. The suspect was photographed riding a bicycle – please see attached photo. 

Physical injuries did not occur as a result of the incident.

The suspect remains outstanding and is described as follows:
  • Male, average build, wearing a unique gold and orange winter coat.

For failing to properly store firearms and ammunition within his possession, a 70-year-old male resident of Brantford, stands charged with two counts each of Careless Storage of Ammunition and Careless Storage of Firearm as per the Criminal Code.

The investigation is ongoing.

The Brantford Police Service are seeking the public’s assistance to locate missing person, 32-year-old, Andrew.

Andrew was reported missing to the Brantford Police Service by family on March 19, 2024, who last heard from him March 2, 2024.

Andrew is described as male, white, approximately 5’10” – 6”, thin build, with brown hair and a brown beard. 

The Brantford Police Service are requesting assistance from the public to locate the missing person and check on their well-being.

Brantford man arrested, drugs seized, and firearms recovered as a result of BPS HEAT Unit drug trafficking investigation

Members of the Brantford Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (HEAT) arrested a Brantford man on March 19, 2024, after a drug trafficking investigation.

Two Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrants were granted for a West Street residence and a vehicle associated with the suspect. 

Members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team members executed the warrants at approximately 5:30 p.m., March 19, 2024, where the following items were located and seized:
  • Loaded .357 handgun (concealed on the suspect) 
  • 12-gauge shotgun
  • 12-gauge shotgun ammunition
  • .22 caliber ammunition
  • Approximately 126.6 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • Approximately 23.1 grams of suspected cocaine
  • Approximately 436.9 grams of suspected methamphetamine
  • Approximately 498 pills of suspected oxycodone
  • Approximately 213 pills of suspected hydromorphone
  • Digital scales and packaging material commonly used in the trafficking of illegal substances
  • Money counter
  • Canadian Currency

The total estimated street value of the illicit drugs seized by investigators is approximately $80,058. 

Investigation revealed that the suspect was prohibited on multiple orders from possessing firearms.

The loaded handgun located concealed on the suspect, was confirmed as stolen from a break and enter within a neighbouring jurisdiction.

As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following violations of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and the Criminal Code of Canada:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule 1, (methamphetamine)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule 1, (fentanyl)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule 1, (cocaine)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule 1, (oxycodone)
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking – Schedule 1, (hydromorphone)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (handgun)
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (handgun)
  • Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose (handgun
  • Possession of a restricted firearm (handgun)
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm (shotgun)
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm (shotgun)
  • Careless storage of a firearm (shotgun)
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order (handgun)
  • Possession of firearm contrary to prohibition order (shotgun)
  • Possession of a firearm contrary to prohibition order (handgun)
  • Carry concealed weapon (handgun)

 
The accused has been held for bail.

CRIME BRIEF: March 18, 2024

On Sunday, March 17, 2024, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a theft and assault at a grocery store located at Market Street South.

It was reported that a man was observed attempting to steal merchandise when he was approached by store security. The accused is then alleged to have assaulted the security guard before fleeing on foot. 

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. Investigation revealed that the accused did not leave the store with any merchandise. 

As a result, a 33-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.

On Saturday, March 16, 2024, at approximately 8:55 p.m., a Brantford police uniform patrol officer located a motor vehicle parked in a Colborne Street motel parking lot which had previously been reported as stolen from a neighbouring jurisdiction.

Officers located a lone female occupying the front passenger seat of the vehicle. The female was arrested, investigation revealed that the woman was wanted on a valid arrest warrant.

As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old female resident of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
  • Possession of Stolen Goods Over $5,000
  • Occupant of Motor Vehicle Without Consent

On Wednesday, March 13, 2024, at approximately 6:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend the area of Buffalo Street and Washington Street for an assist other service call for service.
 
Prior to police arrival, information was received that Emergency Medical Services were enroute for a male driver who was reported to have previously overdosed.

Officers arrived on scene and located the accused man in the driver’s seat of the vehicle being tended to by EMS. After being escorted from the vehicle, the male attempted to flee on foot from police.
 
The accused was arrested by police after a brief foot pursuit. During the arrest, the accused resisted. 

A Drug Recognition Evaluation was completed, and it was determined that the accused was operating a vehicle while impaired by a combination of alcohol and drugs. 

Police also learned that the accused is bound by multiple driving prohibition orders. Additionally, it was learned by police that the vehicle had been taken without consent.

As a result, a 30-year-old male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act offences:
  • Resist Arrest
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation of a Conveyance While Prohibited x 3
  • Drive While Under Suspension x 3
  • Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent 
 
The accused was held for bail. 

Brantford police seek to identify attempted robbery suspect

Brantford police are investigating the attempted robbery of a convenience store and are seeking information from the public to help identify the suspects.

On Tuesday, March 12, 2024, at approximately 11:15 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of an attempted robbery of a convenience store located at Brant Avenue near Church Street.

Information was received to indicate one male suspect entered the business with his face concealed and demanded cash from the store employee. The suspect did not obtain any cash and fled the scene on foot.

Physical injuries were not reported as a result of the incident.

A K9 track was initiated, and the area was closed to local traffic temporarily in order to conduct the investigation.

The suspect remains outstanding and is described as follows:
  • Male, average build, wearing a light grey winter coat or zippered hooded sweater, black-brimmed hat, blue jeans, black running shoes, brown gloves, and a black and white scarf used to conceal his face.

CRIME BRIEF: March 4, 2024

Incident: 24-8768
Location: Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Dunsdon Street

On Sunday, March 3, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to report a hit and run had occurred at a gas station located at Fairview Drive and West Street.

Officers were advised that a SUV hit a truck before fleeing the scene. The SUV was observed by witnesses to be traveling in a dangerous manner, at a high rate of speed. Police located the SUV, at the corner of Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Dunsdon Street, flipped over in the ditch.
The driver of the SUV was present at the scene. Information received indicated the driver held a G2 licence at the time of the incident.

As a result of this incident, an 18-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations:
  • Careless driving
  • Drive motor vehicle while perform stunt
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded, and the accused received a licence suspension.

Location: Dunsdon Street

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Services were dispatched to attend a report of a vehicle that had collided with a building at Dunsdon Street and Greenfield Road.

Officers attended and the accused was located at the scene. Officers observed signs of impairment when speaking with the accused. Information received indicated that the accused did not hold a valid driver's licence.

The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Members of the Brantford Fire Department also attended, as the collision had damaged a live gas line.

As a result, a 29-year-old woman from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration over 80
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Location: Stanley Street

On Saturday, March 2, 2024, at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a suspicious vehicle in the area of Stanley Street and Dalhousie Street and conducted a traffic stop.

Investigation determined that the licence plates attached were not registered to the vehicle.

Speaking with the driver of the vehicle, officers observed what appeared to be a handgun in plain view. Further investigation revealed the firearm was a replica.

The driver was also displaying signs of impairment and was required to perform an alcohol screening demand (ASD). The driver registered an alert and received a three-day licence suspension as per law. Information received indicated the accused was in possession of a G1 driver's licence.

As a result, a 22-year-old, male resident of Brantford stands charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations:
  • Drive motor vehicle fail to display two plates,
  • Use plate not authorized for motor vehicle, and
  • Novice Driver - Blood alcohol level above zero
Additionally, the unauthorized licence plate, vehicle, and the G1 licence were seized by police.

BPS Seeking Witnesses of Collision

The Brantford Police Service are seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed a collision involving a motor vehicle that occurred at approximately 5:10 p.m., Thursday, February 29, 2024, in the area of Elgin Street and Hachborn Road.

Any witnesses, or anyone with information, including dashcam or surveillance footage of the collision, is asked to contact Constable Benjamin Alexander at 519-756-0113 ext. 2285.
