HISTORY

The first Citizens' Police Academy was formed in the United Kingdom in 1977. Our Service's first Academy began on March 25, 1999, and ran for eight weeks. The facilitator was Staff Sergeant Derek McElveny, who is our retired Chief of Police.

Each Academy has been structured as an interactive, information-sharing evening, similar to a night school class. Whatever a citizen's motivation for attending, the end result will be a community member who better understands the challenges and responsibilities that the men and women of the Brantford Police Service face every day.

This year's Academy will run from April 25, 2024 to May 16, 2024.

Please note, the closing date for applications is Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

2024 PARTICIPANT SELECTION

We are looking for mature, community-minded adults who represent a wide range of ages, occupations and reasons for participating. Security checks will be completed before selection of the participants and valid photo identification is also required which should be attached to the application.
