1. MINUTES

2. DELEGATIONS
a) D.A.R.E. – Request for Donation
Ms. Carol de Ville, Ms. Wendy Bayne and Inspector G. Nelson, of the D.A.R.E. Board attended and provided a presentation on the D.A.R.E. Board, D.A.R.E. Program, and background information on their request for the Board to donate $1,500. to help offset the cost of a “Darren the Lion” mascot costume.
b) Exemplary Service Medal Presentation
Constable Nancy Ferguson was presented with her 20-year Exemplary Police Service Medal and thanked for her commitment to policing and this community over the past 20 years.
3. REPORTS
a) Monthly Statistical Report – May 2009
Deputy Chief Kellner highlighted points of interest in the report.
b) Monthly Budget Report
Chief McElveny reviewed the monthly report, prepared by Inspector G. Nelson, i/c Administration Branch, which indicated that 42.7% of the budget had been expended.
c) Income Services Report
Chief McElveny presented a report, prepared by Inspector G. Nelson, i/c Administration Branch, which outlined the fees charged for services provided by the Brantford Police Service.

d) Auction Proceeds Account
i) D.A.R.E. Brantford Inc.
Further to the presentation made this date, the issue was deferred to the next Board meeting so that the full Board could be present to discuss the request for a $1,500 donation to offset the cost of a “Darren the Lion” mascot costume.
ii) Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers
A letter was received from Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers requesting donations in order to maintain their services to the community. Chief McElveny voiced his support of the organization and suggested a donation to the Crime Stoppers’ Jail and Bail fund-raising initiative.

WHEREAS a request has been received from Brant-Brantford Crime Stoppers for financial support
AND WHEREAS the Brantford Police Services Board fully supports the work of this organization
NOW THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED that the Brantford Police Services Board approves the transfer of $500.00 from the Police Services Board Auction Proceeds Trust Fund to the Police Services Board Special Projects Account (150500) and that this amount be used as a donation to their Jail and Bail fund-raising initiative.

e) New Policy – Body Armour
A memorandum was received from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services, Public Safety Division, which advised of a new guideline on body armour, which reflected current research and new technology that take into account officer safety concerns.
A new draft Board policy, developed to conform with the guideline, was reviewed.

THAT the Brantford Police Services Board approves the new policy on body armour, as required by Adequacy Standard AI-015, as presented this date.

4. NEW BUSINESS
a) 2010 Budget Meeting Dates
Tentative dates of July 14 and 16 were selected to review the 2010 Police Budget, with final approval taking place on August 18, 2009.
b) YIPPI Program
Deputy Chief Kellner indicated the Service was participating in this new program which involved disadvantaged youths, aged 14 to 17 years, being employed by the Brantford Police Service for the summer months.
5. NEXT MEETING DATE
The next meeting of the Brantford Police Services Board will be held on Thursday, September 17, 2009, at 1:00 p.m.
The meeting adjourned at 2:10 p.m.
The minutes of this meeting were adopted this 17th day of September 2009.
