30-year-old man facing weapons charges after threatening passerby

A 30-year-old Brantford man is in police custody and facing charges in relation to a firearm related 911 call. 

On Saturday, April 29, 2023, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a 911 call to report a man with a firearm had threatened another man in the area of Stanley Street and Darling Street. The two men were unknown to each other. The victim did not sustain any physical injuries.  

Officers attended. The accused was reported last seen entering a residence on Stanley Street near Darling Street. Surveillance video from a local business indicated he may have left the area.

Having received a report that firearms were present, the local area was closed to pedestrian and vehicular traffic while a search was conducted for the accused.

The accused was located within a Darling Street residence and taken into police custody. The weapon was not located at the time of arrest.

Further investigation revealed the accused was in violation of a valid Judicial Order.

As a result, a 30-year-old man from Brantford is now in custody and stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Assault with a weapon
  • Carry concealed weapon
  • Failure to comply with Judicial Order

The accused was held for bail.

As the information for the accused has not yet been verified as sworn to in court, the identity of the accused cannot be released.

BPS arrest two, seize illegal drugs and firearms

On Wednesday, April 26, 2023, members of Brantford Police Service’s Tactical Intelligence Enforcement Response Unit (T.I.G.E.R) completed a drug trafficking investigation.

At approximately 10:40 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT) executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at a Murray Street residence.

The following items were located:
  • Approximately 113 hydromorphone pills (suspected) with an estimated street value of $2,260 
  • Approximately 15 grams of fentanyl (suspected), with an estimated street value of $3,020 
  • 58x unspent 12 gauge shot gun shells 
  • 43x unspent .308 caliber ammunition 
  • 1 shotgun 
  • 3 replica (BB) firearms which included a Glock handgun, a Swiss Arms handgun and a PFM16 handgun
  • Canadian currency

The accused were located within the residence at the time the search warrant was executed and were arrested.

Additionally, investigation revealed that the accused male was in violation of six firearm prohibition orders.

As a result of this investigation, Brooke TOMLINSON, 22, of Hamilton, stands charged with the following Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act violations: 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, (fentanyl - schedule I) 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, (hydromorphone - Schedule I) 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm

And, David HAMILTON, 32 of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code and Controlled Drugs and Substances Act violations:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, (fentanyl - schedule I) 
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking, (hydromorphone - Schedule I) 
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm 
  • Possession of Firearm or weapon x6 

Both accused were held for bail.

Location:         Buffalo Street

On Thursday, April 27, 2023, at approximately 5:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Buffalo Street location after receiving a call regarding a possible impaired driver.

A concerned citizen called to report a man was observed passed out in the driver’s seat of a parked vehicle.

Officers attended and located the accused unconscious within the vehicle. After the accused was awakened by officers, signs of impairment were observed.
The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation (drug) and was required to submit to a drug recognition evaluation.

Search incident to arrest located approximately 0.4 grams of suspected blue fentanyl and 0.1 grams of suspected green fentanyl within the vehicle. 

A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed with the evaluating officer forming the opinion that the accused's ability to operate a vehicle was impaired.

Additionally, information received indicated that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • 2x Possession of a Schedule I Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Breach of Probation Order contrary to the Criminal Code

The accused was held for bail.

Location:         Brantwood Park Road


On Wednesday, April 27, 2023, at approximately 11:15 p.m., while conducting general uniform patrol, officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling on northbound on Brantwood Park Road, towards Banbury Road, with it’s high-beam lights on, interfering with on-coming traffic.

Officers conducted a traffic stop and, when speaking with the accused, observed signs of impairment. 

It was determined that the driver was a G2 class licence holder and was unable to produce proof of valid insurance.

The accused was subjected to, and failed roadside breath testing. 

The accused was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, a 71-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Class G2 Licence Holder - B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Fail To Use Lower Beam - Oncoming, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Fail To Have Insurance Card, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act 
 
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Location:         Nelson Street

On Saturday, April 22, 2023, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched at approximately 1:00 a.m., after receiving a call to report a break and enter at a Nelson Street location.

Officers attended the location and located the accused on the property.
Police investigation revealed that the accused was captured on surveillance footage unsuccessfully attempting to gain entry to the residence through a window.

As a result, a 42-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Trespass / Prowl near a Dwelling House 
  • Break and Enter a Dwelling House with Intent to Commit an Indictable Offence
 
The accused was held for bail. 

BPS arrest 38-year-old man, seize loaded firearm

On Sunday, April 23, 2023, members of the Brantford Police Service along with the assistance of the Brantford Police Service’s Tactical Intelligence Enforcement Response Unit (T.I.G.E.R) completed a firearms investigation.

At approximately 2:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police were dispatched to attend an entertainment business located on Market Street, after receiving a report of a male uttering threats to an employee.

Police investigation revealed that the male suspect had threatened an employee with a firearm.

Officers quickly located the suspect who was inside of a motor vehicle that was located in the parking lot of the business. The male was arrested by members of the BPS patrol section and K-9 unit. A search of the motor vehicle revealed a loaded firearm.

Additionally, investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of three firearm prohibition orders.

As a result of the investigation, Jory FOURTOUUNES, 38, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Criminal harassment x2
  • Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm 
  • Prohibited device-magazine
  • Carry in unsafe manner, weapons dangerous
  • Unauthorized possession
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession
  • Firearm in motor vehicle
  • Prohibited or restricted: with ammunition
  • Possession contrary to order 

The accused was held for bail.

BPS on scene investigating school bus collision; seeking witnesses

Two individuals have been transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries after a single motor vehicle collision occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 25, 2023, at a Park Road North and Governors Road East location.

At the time of the incident, the vehicle was occupied by two individuals: the driver and a 13-year-old passenger. Both individuals have been transported to hospital to receive treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Officers are on scene investigating the incident. Area roads have been closed for the investigation and are expected to remain closed for several hours. Motorists are asked to use alternate routes. 

The Brantford Police Service is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at approximately 8:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a Grey Street location in regard to an individual who was potentially in breach of Release Order. 

Officers attended, located the accused, and determined him to be in violation of valid release orders.

As a result, a 30-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the Criminal Code offence of Failure to Comply with Judicial Release and held for bail.

Location:         Grand Street

On Wednesday, April 12, 2023, at approximately 1:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a break and enter at a Grand Street residence.

It was reported that a person had broken into the backyard shed and was still on scene. 

Police quickly attended, located, and arrested the accused.

It was determined that the accused had caused damage to the roof of the shed.

The accused was also wanted by Brantford Police Service on an outstanding Warrant for Arrest regarding an unrelated incident. 

As a result, a 26-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Trespass/Prowl Near Dwelling House
  • Mischief Under $5,000

The accused was held for bail.

Location:         Inglewood Street

On Tuesday, April 11, 2023, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers were dispatched to attend a disturbance involving two men outside an Inglewood Street residence.

It was reported that the accused is alleged to have damaged both the victim’s cellphone and drone with a golf club before swinging the golf club at the victim in a threatening manner.
  
The accused and the victim were known to each other.

As a result, a 57-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5,000

Location:         Market Street

On Monday, April 11, 2023, at approximately 6:45 p.m., officers were dispatched after a man was threatened at a Market Street location.
 
It was reported that the accused gestured towards the victim and threatened to stab him. The men were unknown to each other, and the actions of the accused were allegedly unprovoked. 

Police arrived on scene and placed the accused under arrest.

Information received indicated the accused was in violation of a valid Probation Order. 

The victim did not sustain any physical injuries. No weapon was found in possession of the accused.

As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old man of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Uttering Threats to Cause Death
  • Breach Probation Order 

The accused was held for bail.

Location:         Herbert Street

On Friday, April 7, 2023, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a call to report a motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver at a Herbert Street location.

The suspected impaired driver was attempting to flee the scene on foot. The other vehicle involved had been parked at the time of the collision.

Officers attended the scene and located the accused nearby. Officers observed signs of impairment.

The accused was arrested. 

A passenger, who was seated within the accused's motor vehicle, was transported to hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The accused was transported to hospital for medical assessment and to provide suitable samples of his breath as required by law.

Both samples were nearly three times the legal limit. 

As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code  
  • Failure To Stop After Accident, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Careless Driving, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Fail To Report Accident, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

On Thursday, April 6, 2023, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a possible impaired driver involved in a hit and run with a parked vehicle in the Rawdon Street area.

Officers attended and located the suspect motor vehicle parked at a Rawdon Street residence. A woman was observed in the driver’s seat.

When officers were speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were observed.

The accused was then arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit.

As a result, a 37-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation while Impaired - Alcohol 
  • Operation while Impaired - Plus 80 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

BPS seeking witnesses of dirt bike collision

The Brantford Police Service is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed a collision involving a dirt bike in the area of the Dike Trail off of River Road near Baldwin Avenue. The collision is reported to have occurred at approximately 4:20 pm on Friday, April 7, 2023.

The victim was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

BPS seeking witnesses of collision that injured two pedestrians

The Brantford Police Service is seeking information from anyone who may have witnessed a collision that occurred at approximately 4:30 p.m., on Saturday, April 8, 2023, in the area of Edmondson Street between West Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway. 

Officers were dispatched after a vehicle left the roadway and struck a local business, injuring two pedestrians.

The victims were transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

When speaking with the driver of the vehicle, attending officers observed signs of impairment. Open containers of alcohol were visible in clear view. The accused was then arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were twice the legal limit.

Additionally, the accused was unable to provide valid proof of insurance. 

As a result, a 57-year-old man from Burlington stands charged with the following:   
  • Operation While Impaired Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code
  • 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Dangerous Operation Cause Bodily Harm contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act 
  • Fail to Have Insurance Card contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act

BPS HEAT Unit arrest Cambridge man on outstanding warrants; seize over $26,000 in illicit drugs

On Thursday, April 6, 2023, members of the Brantford Police Service High Enforcement Action Team (H.E.A.T.) completed an investigation to locate a man wanted man wanted on two outstanding arrest warrants.

Through investigation, officers confirmed the accused was travelling by taxi in the area of King George Road and Dunsdon Street. Officers initiated a traffic stop. The accused fled the vehicle on foot. After a short foot chase, the accused was arrested by officers.

Search incident to arrest located the following in possession of the accused:
  • Approximately 62.6 grams of suspected fentanyl (schedule I) with an estimated street value of $25,040
  • Approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine (schedule I) with an estimated street value of $1,200
  • Drug paraphernalia
  • Canadian currency

The total estimated street value of seized drugs located on the accused is $26,240.

As a result of the investigation, Tyrell HORVATH-JACKSON, 24, of Cambridge, stands charged with the following offences:
  • Failure to Comply with Judicial Release – Release Order, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possession for the Purpose – Schedule I x 3, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

The accused was held for bail.

UPDATE: 21-year-old man arrested for shooting incident

After continued investigation into the March 9, 2023, Bowery Road shooting incident, detectives with the Brantford Police Service have arrested and charged a 21-year-old Brantford man with Careless Use of a Firearm. 

Investigation revealed that the accused is alleged to have fired multiple shots from a rifle while target shooting on property located on Oakhill Drive. 

The March 9, 2023, incident injured a male victim while at a construction site located on Bowery Road. The victim received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. Property damage also occurred as a result of the incident, with two vehicles located on Wright Street and two homes located on Macklin Street, damaged by stray gunshots. At the time of the incident, the homes and vehicles were unoccupied. No injuries occurred. The victims were unknown to the accused. This was not believed to be a targeted incident.

As a result of the investigation, on April 3, 2023, a 21-year-old man from Brantford was arrested and stands charged with Careless Use of a Firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code.

At the time of arrest, police seized the Possession and Acquisition Licence (PAL) belonging to the accused, in addition to ten firearms and ammunition.
 
  
UPDATE: Vehicles and homes damaged by gunshots

Officers with the Brantford Police Service continue to investigate the March 9, 2023, shooting incident at Bowery Road which injured one man.

While conducting the search of the area, officers investigated reports of damage to two vehicles, believed to be caused by a firearm. The vehicles were damaged at approximately 3:00 p.m. on March 9, 2023. At the time the damage occurred, the vehicles were unoccupied and were parked nearby on Wright Street. No injuries occurred.

Additionally, reports were received to advise that two residential homes located nearby on Macklin Street were also damaged by a firearm. Officers attended and observed damage to the homes, including where a bullet had been shot through the front door of one residence. At the time of the incidents, the homes were unoccupied. Both incidents are believed to have occurred between 1 and 7:30 pm, March 9, 2023. No injuries occurred at either residence.

Investigators believe these incidents are related. Suspect information is not yet known.

At this time, we would like to advise the public there will be a heavy police presence in the Bowery Road area as the investigation continues.

BPS investigate shooting, seek information

The Brantford Police Service are actively investigating a report of shooting that occurred at a Bowery Road location and are seeking information from witnesses. 

On Thursday, March 9, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to an assist ambulance call at a Bowery Road location where a 29-year-old male had been injured.

Officers attended and investigation revealed the male victim was suffering from a single gunshot wound. The victim was transported to hospital where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. No suspect information is currently available.

Officers are currently on scene to investigate and are canvassing for video in the local area.

Police are asking residents in the immediate area to check any video surveillance between 1:00 pm and 4:00 pm and contact police with any information. 

As this investigation is active and ongoing, additional information will be provided as it becomes available.
