On Monday, July 18, 2022, at approximately 12:15 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a man preparing to inject a substance believed to be fentanyl while within a parking facility located at Icomm Drive.

Police interrupted this process and took the accused into custody for possession of controlled substance. 

On further investigation it was learned that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result, a 40-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following: 
  • Possession of Schedule I Substance (Fentanyl), contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Breach of Probation Order, contrary to the Criminal Code

Location:         Mintern Avenue

On Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 10:20 p.m., the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen to advise of a possible impaired driver involved in a hit and run in the area of Mintern Avenue and Tom Street.

Officers were dispatched and located the suspect vehicle and the accused at a Colborne Street location.

In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of intoxication. 
The accused was placed under arrest and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

Information was received that the accused is a prohibited driver and that the plates affixed to the vehicle, were not registered to this vehicle. The plates were seized by police. 

As a result, a 42-year-old man from Ohsweken stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
  • Operation While Impaired
  • Over 80
  • Operation While Prohibited 
 
The accused also stands charged with the following Highway Traffic Act offences: 
  • Drive While Under Suspension 
  • Use Plates not Authorized
  • Fail to Remain
 
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Incident:          22-28486
Location:         Stanley Street

On Sunday, July 17, 2022, at approximately 12:50 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a call regarding a possible impaired driver at a Stanley Street fast-food restaurant.

Officers attended and located the vehicle stationed in the drive thru. The vehicle was running, and the driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, appeared to be unconscious.

After several attempts, officers woke the accused and observed signs of impairment.

The accused was placed under arrest and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples were over three times the legal limit.

As a result, a 38-year-old man from Simcoe stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration/80+
 
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:         Erie Avenue

On Saturday, July 16, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched in regard to a disturbance involving several people, occurring in the area of Erie Avenue and Strathcona Avenue.

Through investigation, officers determined that a man was confronted by three other individuals for allegedly prowling in resident’s yards and attempting to enter vehicles. A verbal confrontation occurred, which escalated to a physical altercation involving all four persons.

As a result of the altercation all four parties received for minor / non-life-threatening injuries. 

Officers attended, located all four persons, and requested Emergency Medical Services. 

The man who had been confronted by the others for prowling, was uncooperative with police and emergency medical services, assaulting one of the police officers by striking him in the face.

As a result of the investigation, the following individuals stand charged:
  • A 27-year-old man, a 23-year-old man, and a 20-year-old woman, all from Brantford, each stand charged with one count of Aggravated Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code, and
  • A 22-year-old man from Ohsweken, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
    • Assault x 3
    • Assault a Peace Officer 
    • Trespass/Prowl near Dwelling House

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a location on Icomm Drive after receiving a report of a man threatening another man with a knife.

The accused is alleged to have been asked to leave the property by an employee when he brandished a knife and made a threatening gesture towards the victim.

No physical injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

Officers attended, located, and arrested the accused.

Investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of a valid police undertaking.

As a result of this investigation, a 52-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following offences: 
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Failure to Comply with an Undertaking
The accused was held for bail.

Location:         Darling Street

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., officers were dispatched to attend a dispute involving two men in the area of Darling Street.

The accused, a 54-year-old man, and the victim, a 27-year-old man, were involved in a verbal dispute when the accused struck the victim several times.

The two men were known to each other. Minor physical injuries were sustained by both parties.

As a result, a 54-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:         Market Street

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a man and a woman in the process of using illicit drugs in the area of Dalhousie Street and Market Square.

Officers interrupted this process. The male was in possession of suspected fentanyl and a pipe with suspected crystal methamphetamine. The accused was taken into custody for possession of a controlled substance. 

Further investigation determined that the accused is in violation of a valid release order.

As a result, a 45-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:
  • Possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl/crystal methamphetamine), contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Breach of release order, contrary to the Criminal Code
 


Type:                 Stolen Vehicle
Incident:          22-27828
Location:         Colborne Street

On Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at approximately 7:00 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle that had previously been reported as stolen from another jurisdiction. The vehicle was located in a Colborne Street parking lot. 

Investigation revealed that the vehicle, which had out-of-province licence plates, was rented by the accused and was to be returned in May, 2022.   

Officers located the accused nearby. The vehicle was recovered.

As a result of this investigation, a 49-year-old female from Alliston stands charged with Possession of Stolen Goods Over $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:         Mintern Avenue

On Tuesday, July 12, 2022, at approximately 3:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a 911 call to advise of a possible impaired driver who had been involved in a collision in the area of Mintern Avenue.

Officers attended and through investigation determined that the accused had been involved in two motor vehicle collisions which resulted in damages to a parked vehicle, a hydro pole, and a road sign. 
In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of intoxication. 
The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration of 80 plus
  • Failure to stop after accident x 2 

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.


Public Advisory – Thumbtacks located on trail

The Brantford Police Service is issuing a public advisory after responding to a property damage report where a quantity of thumbtacks were located on the T.H. & B. Rail Trail bike path in the Shellard Lane / Conklin Road area of the City of Brantford.

On Thursday, July 14, 2022, at approximately 7:50 a.m., roughly 50 brass-coloured thumbtacks were located and removed from the trail.

As a result of this incident, damage has been reported to several bicycles. No physical injuries have been reported as a result of this vandalism.

Discovery of these items pose significant safety risks to everyone who is utilizing the trail system. 

In addition to the safety risk to pedestrians and cyclists, the tacks could also pose a risk of injury to young children and pet owners who may walk dogs along the trail.

At this time, we would like to remind dog owners of the requirement to ensure dogs are leashed when utilizing the trails. Proper use of a leash will also provide control of a pet’s actions and help to prevent injury to canine companions should an object be found on the trails.
 
The Brantford Police Service is reminding all trail users – pedestrians and cyclists to be mindful of your surroundings.

Release of High-Risk Offender: William Michael SMITH, 62

In the interest of public safety, the Brantford Police Service are issuing a public advisory regarding the release of a high-risk offender to the community.

William Michael SMITH, 62, was convicted in 2016 for the following offences:
  • Sexual Interference x 15
  • Invite Sexual Touching x 4
  • Print/Publish Child Pornography x 4
  • Possess Child Pornography x 3
  • Access Child Pornography
  • Indecent Assault Female
  • Sexual Assault
  • Mischief x 3

Described as 6’1, 225 lbs., with green eyes and grey hair, SMITH was released on statutory release June 28, 2022, with conditions to reside in Brantford.

Current terms of his release include the following:
  • Follow treatment plan/program to be arranged by parole supervisor to address all outstanding domain areas
  • To participate in counselling with a mental health professional to address sexual deviancy
  • No direct or indirect contact with all victims and family members of those victims unless communications are necessary for any or all of the following purposes: judicial proceedings, mediation sessions, CSC's Restorative Opportunities program, or other such requirements, with prior written permission from parole supervisor
  • Abide by a curfew from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., except for work-related reasons with parole supervisor’s written agreement
  • Not permitted to consume alcohol or drugs
  • Not to own, use, or possess any technological device that would allow access to the internet, unless previously approved in writing by parole supervisor
  • Not to use the internet or other digital networks unless for the purposes of seeking employment, or while engaged in lawful employment and with parole officer's advanced approval
  • Immediately report all sexual and non-sexual relationships and friendships with females and males and any changes to the status of the relationships/friendships to parole supervisor. This includes any attempts to initiate the above. This includes disclosing whether those above have parental responsibilities for children under the age of 18 years.
  • Not to reside with another person without the prior knowledge and the written approval of parole supervisor
  • Must reside at a specific place approved by Correctional Service of Canada
  • Not to reside with another person without the prior knowledge and the written approval of parole supervisor
  • Do not associate or communicate with any person you know or have reason to believe is involved in criminal activity.
  • Not to be in the presence of any male or female children under the age of 18 years unless under the supervision of a person who has been deemed appropriate by the court and has been deemed a responsible adult who knows your criminal history and has been previously approved in writing by your parole supervisor.
  • Not to communicate directly or indirectly by any means with any male or female children under the age of 18 years unless you do so under the supervision of a person who has been deemed appropriate by the court and has been deemed a responsible adult who knows your criminal history and has been previously approved in writing by your parole supervisor.
  • Not to be in, near, or around places where children under the age of 16 years are likely to congregate such as daycares, elementary and secondary schools, parks, and playgrounds, swimming pools and recreational centres.

The Brantford Police Service is working closely with Correctional Service of Canada to monitor the terms of SMITH’s release.

If members of the public observe SMITH breaching any of the terms of his release, please do not approach, but call 9-1-1.

The victims involved in prior incidents have been notified of his release. 

The Brantford Police Service is issuing this information and public advisory after careful consideration of all related issues, including privacy concerns, in the belief that it is clearly in the public interest to inform members of the community of the release of SMITH.

This public safety advisory has been issued under the authority of Regulation 265/98 of the Police Services Act, which allows for disclosure of personal information about an individual if it is reasonably believed that the individual poses a significant risk of harm to other persons or property and believes that such disclosure would reduce that risk.

CRIME BRIEF: July 12, 2022

Location:        Lynden Road 

On Monday, July 11, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., a call was received from a concerned citizen to report suspicious activity in a parking lot located at Lynden Road and Wayne Gretzky Parkway.

A man was reported to have entered a parked car thru an open sunroof, allegedly attempting to gain entry to the vehicle’s trunk.

Officers attended and observed the man in the vehicle. The man refused to identify himself to police.

Repeated requests to identify himself were refused. The accused made physically threatening utterances and gestures towards the officers. 

As a result, a 54-year-old man from Kitchener was arrested and stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Obstruct Police Officer 
• Assault Police 
• Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest

Location:         Alfred Street

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m. a physical altercation between two men occurred at an Alfred Street residence where one man received a head injury. 

Police and ambulance were called the next day, attended, and transported the 51-year-old male victim to hospital for treatment of a serious head injury.

Both men were known to each other.

As a result, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with Aggravated Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:          Queen Street

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, at approximately 4:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an assault related call at a location on Queen Street.

It was reported that two men were involved in a verbal altercation, which turned physical. It was alleged that the accused, a 72-year-old man ,had attempted to choke the victim, a 22-year-old man. The men were known to each other.

Officers and emergency medical services attended. The victim declined medical treatment.

As a result of the investigation a 72-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with:
• Assault Cause Bodily Harm – Choke, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:          Clarence Street S. and Greenwich Street

On Thursday, July 7, 2022, at approximately 12:15 p.m., Brantford Police received a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen regarding a driving complaint, in the area of Clarence Street South and Greenwich Street.

Brantford Police attended, located the vehicle in the area of Market Street South and Icomm Drive and initiated a traffic stop.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication.

Based on the observations, an Approved Roadside Screening Device was administered, which registered a fail. 

The accused was arrested for Impaired Operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, a 38-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with:
• Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:          Bain Street

On July 7, 2022, at approximately 10:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Bain Street and Wharfe Street for a weapons related call for service.

It was reported that a man was observed swinging a knife at people in the area. 

Officers attended, located, and arrested the accused for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

The knife was located near the arrest location.

Information was received to indicate that the accused was in violation of a valid Judicial Release Order.

As a result, a 36-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose 
• Failure to Comply with Judicial Release Order

The accused was held for bail

Location:          Lynden Road

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision at a location on Lynden Road, where one vehicle allegedly struck a parked car. The report received indicated the driver may be intoxicated. 

Officers attended, and in speaking with the accused, observed signs of impairment.

The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug. 
 
The accused was submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert Examination, as required by law, and was found to be impaired.

As a result of the investigation, a 31-year-old male from Burford stands charged with Operation while Impaired by Drug, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:          Market Street and Wellington Street

On Sunday, July 3, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision in the area of Market Street and Darling Street.
 
The collision involved two vehicles. No physical injuries were reported from any of the individuals involved. 

Officers attended and in speaking with a male driver, observed signs of impairment.

The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. 

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, a 57-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Operation while Impaired-Alcohol 
• Operation while Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration 

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

On Sunday, July 2, 2022, at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an assault that had occurred in the area of Dalhousie Street and King Street.

It was reported that two men were involved in an argument when one male stabbed the other and fled on foot.

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. 

The victim, a 40-year-old man, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

As a result of the incident, a 64-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
• Assault with a Weapon 
• Assault Causing Bodily Harm 
• Possession of Weapons, Dangerous

Location:          Park Road N

On Friday, July 1, 2022, at approximately 3:15 a.m., the Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call from a concerned citizen to report a possible impaired driver in the area of Park Road North.

Officers attended and located the vehicle occupied by a male driver.
In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. The accused was placed under arrest and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples were over twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 32-year-old man from London stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Operation while Impaired
• Operation while Impaired by Alcohol- Blood Alcohol Concentration

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 


BPS TIGER Unit arrest man and seize loaded, concealed firearm

On Saturday, July 9, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Tactical Intelligence Generated Enforcement and Response Unit (T.I.G.E.R.) initiated a drug trafficking investigation.

As a result of the investigation, officers attended a residence on Brant Ave to arrest a man. Once officers identified themselves, the accused fled on foot.

After a short foot chase, officers apprehended the suspect.

Search incident to arrest located a fully loaded .45 caliber handgun and a large quantity of Canadian currency in possession of the accused.
 
As a result of the investigation, Olanzo NELSON, 23, of Toronto, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
  • Unauthorized possession of a firearm
  • Possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Carrying a concealed weapon
  • Possession weapon for a dangerous purpose
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of a firearm
 
The accused was held for bail.

BPS TIGER Unit arrest two, seize over $215,000 in illegal drugs

On Wednesday, June 29, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Tactical Intelligence Generated Enforcement and Response Unit (T.I.G.E.R.) initiated a drug trafficking investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a search warrant was obtained and executed on July 8, 2022, at a Drummond Street residence. The warrant was executed with the assistance of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team. 

As a result of the search, officers seized the following:
  • 335.6 grams (approx.) of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $134,240
  • 545.4 grams (approx.) of suspected crystal methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $81,810
  • Large quantity of Canadian currency
  • Packaging materials commonly used in the trafficking of illicit substances
  • Digital scale 
  • Three (3) cell phones
 
The total estimated street value of the illicit substances seized is $216,050.

As a result of the investigation, Jonathon LUDWIG, 35, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking x 2, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
  • Breach probation, contrary to the Criminal Code
 
And Dakota COLEMAN, 22, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:
  • Possession for the purpose of trafficking x2, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
The accused were held for bail.

CRIME BRIEF: June 30, 2022

Location:          Nelson Street

On Saturday, June 26, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a 911 call from a concerned resident to report a man with a knife on a bike chasing another male in the area of Nelson Street. 

Officers attended and located the suspect male who was then advised he was under arrest for Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose. 

The accused attempted to flee. Officers pursued on foot and the accused was quickly taken into custody.   

Search incident to arrest revealed the knife allegedly used in the incident was in possession of the accused.

Additionally, investigation revealed the bicycle the accused was riding had previously been reported stolen to the Brantford Police Service and the accused was determined to be in violation of valid probation orders.

As a result of this investigation a 30-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Possession of Stolen Goods Under $5000 
• Assault with a Weapon 
• Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose 
• Resist Arrest 
• Escape lawful custody 
• Breach of Probation 

The accused was held for bail.

Location:          Stanley Street

On Sunday June 26, 2022, at approximately 3:40 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise of a possible impaired driver in the area of Market Street. 

Officers attended, located the vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop in the area of Stanley Street and Dalhousie Street.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. 

The driver was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
 
Additionally, the driver was determined to be a novice driver (G1) and required to maintain a zero-blood alcohol level.

As a result, a 31-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
• Operation While Impaired – Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Level, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Novice Driver – B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The licence of the accused was suspended, and the motor vehicle towed and impounded for 7 days. 

Additionally, during the traffic stop, while speaking with the passenger, officers observed signs of intoxication. The passenger appeared to be attempting to conceal a bottle of alcohol under the passenger seat. 

The passenger initially refused to identify herself to police. After being advised she would be arrested for failing to identify, she then provided an identity. 

Investigation revealed an outstanding arrest warrant existed for the identity provided. As officers executed the warrant for arrest, the accused fled on foot in an attempt to evade police.   

After a short foot pursuit, the accused was taken into custody. 
Investigation revealed the identity provided to police was false.

Search incident to arrest located a quantity of several prescription drugs packaged in a manner for sales. 

As a result of the investigation, a 23-year-old female from Paris, stands charged with the following and was held for bail: 
• Possession controlled substance x2, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
• Possession for the purpose of trafficking, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 
• Obstruction contrary to the Criminal Code
• Identity Fraud contrary to the Criminal Code

On Saturday June 25, 2022, at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a break and enter in progress at a community hall located on Henry Street. 

Officers attended and located the accused who was allegedly attempting to gain entry to the building. 

As a result, a 31-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with: 
• Break, Enter A Place - With Intent to Commit Indictable Offence, contrary to the Criminal Code

Location:          Dundas Street East

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, at approximately 5:15 a.m., the Brantford Police Service received a 911 call to report a fence post had allegedly been thrown thru the window of a residence located on Dundas Street East.

Through investigation, the individual responsible was identified and located by police in the backyard of a neighbouring property, where the accused allegedly caused additional property damage.

When police informed the accused he was under arrest, he attempted to flee on foot. 

After a brief foot pursuit, the accused was subsequently arrested and taken into custody. 

Further investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of two valid probation orders.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old man of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Trespass/Prowl Near Dwelling House
• Mischief Under $5000 x 2
Breach of Probation 
• Resist Arrest 

The accused was held for bail.

Incident:           22-24979
Location:          Park Road North

On Saturday, June 25, 2022, at approximately 5:15 a.m., officers were in the area of Park Road North conducting speed enforcement and observed a vehicle travelling at a recorded speed of 107 km/hr in a posted 50km/hr zone.

A traffic stop was conducted. The accused was determined to be a novice licenced driver (G2).

As a result, a 19-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations:
• Drive motor vehicle perform stunt speeding by 40 or more kilometres per hour in a zone that is less than 80 km/h 
• Speeding 107 km/h in a posted 50 km hour zone

The accused’s licence was suspended for 30 days, and vehicle impounded for 14 days as part of the administrative penalty of the Highway Traffic Act

Incident:           22-24953
Location:          Wellington Street

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 10:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call related to a possible impaired driver in the area of Wellington Street and Alfred Street.

Officers attended and located the reported vehicle. Two occupants were observed in the vehicle. The occupants appeared to be unconscious, and the vehicle was running. 

After several attempts, officers successfully awakened the occupants. Signs of impairment were observed. Drug paraphernalia was also observed in clear view.

The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug. 

As a result of the investigation, a 55-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with Operation while Impaired by Drug contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:          West Street

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., the Brantford Police Service received a 911 call to report a disturbance involving a weapon at a location on West Street.

A man was reported to be acting erratic, becoming involved in a confrontation with an unknown male. The accused was reported to have waved a knife at the man.

Officers attended and located the accused nearby at a fast-food restaurant. The accused was subsequently arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose. 

Information received indicated that the accused was in violation of valid court orders.

A search incident to arrest revealed the accused was in possession of a machete and approximately 0.55 grams of suspected fentanyl.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following: 
• Possession of Weapons Dangerous, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Breach of Judicial Release, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Breach of Probation, contrary to the Criminal Code 
• Possession, Schedule I, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Location:          Bain Street

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 5:30 p.m., the Brantford Police Service received a report related to vehicle damage at a location on Bain Street. The accused was detained by security and was reported to be heavily intoxicated.

Officers attended and observed a vehicle with its rear windshield and driver’s side windows smashed. A large piece of wood was hanging out of the driver’s side window.

Witnesses reported that the accused had allegedly smashed the car windows with the piece of wood.

Information received indicated that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order. 

As a result, a 56-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:
• Mischief under $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Failure to Comply with Probation, contrary to the Criminal Code
• Being intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act

Location:          Market Street

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a disturbance in the area of Victoria Park, Market Street.

A man was reported to have engaged in a verbal confrontation and subsequently assaulted two individuals (a 38-year-old man and 35-year-old woman) with a stick.

The victims sustained minor injuries.

After the assault, the accused fled on foot.

A brief foot chase occurred with officers locating and arresting the accused nearby at approximately 12:20 p.m.  

Information received indicated the accused was in violation of valid probation orders.

As result of this investigation, a 25-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Possession of Weapons Dangerous  
• Assault Cause Bodily Harm X 2 
• Assault with a Weapon x 2 
• Breach of Probation 

The accused was held for bail.

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 8:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a property damage related call at a parking garage located on Icomm Drive.

A man was reported to have been observed by security spray painting the parking garage stairwell.

Officers attended and located the accused.

Information received indicted that the accused was in violation of valid court orders.

As a result, a 29-year-old man from Brantford (no fixed address) stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Mischief under $5,000 
• Failure to comply with undertaking 
• Breach of probation order

Location:          Dundas Street East

On Friday, June 24, 2022, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a disturbance at a Dundas Street East residence.

It was reported that a female, who had appeared to be heavily intoxicated, allegedly entered the victim’s residence thru an unlocked door.
 
When asked to leave the residence, the accused initially refused, became irate, caused minor property damage, and then exited the home. 

While outside, the accused then was reported to have thrown a propane tank at the victim’s vehicle.

Officers attended, and located the accused nearby, who was then arrested.

Search incident to arrest located a large quantity of cannabis in the possession of the accused. 

As a result, a 31-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
• Mischief Under $5000
• Unlawfully in Dwelling House
• Possession of over 30G Dried Cannabis (or equivalent) in a Public Place


CRIME BRIEF: June 23, 2022

Location:          Market Street South

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Brantford Police Service to advise of a possible impaired driver located in a Market Street South parking lot.

Officers attended, located the vehicle, and female suspect.
In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.

The accused was arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit.

Information was received to indicate that the accused was a prohibited driver, and the licence plate was not authorized for the vehicle in question.

As a result, a 24-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation while impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Drive while under suspension x 2 contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Use plate not authorized for vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence of the accused suspended.

On Tuesday, June 21, 2022, at approximately 12:30 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received to report a man with a firearm in a store located at Market Street South and Icomm Drive.

Officers arrived on scene and located the suspect who was arrested without incident.

Search incident to arrest located an airsoft pellet gun concealed on his person.

Information received indicated that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result of this investigation, a 25-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations and was held for bail: 
  • Weapons Dangerous 
  • Carry a Concealed Weapon (Airsoft Gun) 
  • Breach Probation

Location:          Market Street

On Saturday, June 18, 2022, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a robbery that had occurred at a location near Market Street and Dalhousie Street. 

Information was received that a 24-year-old male victim was allegedly assaulted by two men and robbed of his wallet and backpack while walking near Market Street and Dalhousie Street.
 

The victim sustained minor physical injuries.

Investigation revealed that the victim’s bank card was utilized by one of the suspects at a nearby retail store.

The suspect was located and arrested later the same day. Search incident to arrest located the victim’s belongings in possession of the accused.

As a result of the incident, a 22-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Robbery with violence
  • Possession of stolen goods under $5,000
  • Fraud – under $5,000 

The accused was held for bail.

Location:          Nelson Street

On Thursday, June 16, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a dispute between three people at a Nelson Street residence. A firearm was reported to be involved.

It was reported that the accused was involved in a dispute with two residents and, when asked, he refused to leave. 

When the victims advised they were calling the police, the accused left. It was believed by the victims that the accused was in possession of a firearm.

Officers attended and located the accused nearby. The accused resisted arrest as officers placed him under investigative detention for the offence of weapons dangerous.
 
Search incident to arrest located three 12-guage shotguns, one which had previously been reported as stolen with a neighbouring service, ammunition, approximately 15.93 grams of suspected fentanyl, Canadian currency and drug packaging paraphernalia.

Further investigation revealed that the accused does not have a Possession and Acquisition Licence and is bound by two valid firearms prohibition orders. The accused was also found to be in violation of a valid undertaking.

As a result, the accused, Donte YATES, a 19-year-old male from Kitchener stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Carless use of firearm, weapon, ammunition
  • Carrying concealed weapon
  • Knowledge of unauthorized possession of firearm
  • Possession of prohibited or restricted firearm with ammunition
  • Possession of weapon obtained by crime
  • Firearm or weapon: Possession contrary to prohibition order x 2
  • Failure to comply with undertaking 
  • Resist arrest

The accused also stands charged with Trafficking in Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. 

The accused was held for bail. 

Brantford police investigating armed robbery

Brantford police are investigating an armed robbery of a retail business and are seeking information from the public to help identify suspects. A firearm was used by suspects during the robbery.

On Monday, June 20, 2022, at approximately 5:20 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call reporting an armed robbery at a retail location within the Lynden Park Mall located at Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Lynden Road.

Officers attended and investigation revealed three male suspects entered the business, brandished a firearm, and demanded merchandise from the store employees. The men were wearing gloves and their faces were concealed.

The suspects obtained a quantity of cell phones and fled the scene in a silver Dodge Ram pick-up truck, heading westbound on Highway 403. 

No physical injuries were sustained during the incident.

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of an assault that had occurred in a Colborne Street parking lot. 

The victim, a 29-year-old female, was reported to have been physically assaulted by a 35-year-old female.

The victim sustained minor physical injuries.

As a result of the incident, a 35-year-old female from Mitchell, stands charged with Assault contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:       Colborne Street West / Oak Street

On Sunday, June 12, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of a road rage incident that had escalated, resulting in a collision between a cyclist and motor vehicle.

A verbal dispute was reported to have occurred between a male cyclist and a man driving a motor vehicle on Colborne Street West near Oak Street.

A collision between the vehicle and bicycle occurred. The driver of the vehicle left the scene. 

The victim, a 56-year-old man, was transported to hospital where he was treated for minor injuries. 

The accused, a 21-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with Fail to remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.

Location:       Eagle Avenue and Ontario Street

On Saturday, June 11, 2022, at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Eagle Avenue and Ontario Street after receiving a report of a hit and run.

A vehicle was observed by witnesses to have fled the scene after colliding with another vehicle. 

Officers located the suspect vehicle driven by the accused nearby and a traffic stop was initiated.

The accused failed to stop for police and continued to drive into a busy retail parking lot located at Market Street South. In an effort to prevent injury to pedestrians who were in the area, officers blocked the suspect vehicle in.

At this time, the accused was arrested for Failure to Stop After Accident and Flight from Police, contrary to the Criminal Code.

In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of intoxication.

The accused was then arrested for Operation while Impaired and was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit.

As a result, a 40-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Operation while Impaired 
Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 
Failure to Stop after Accident 
Flight from Police

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence of the accused suspended.

On Tuesday, June 7, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a driving complaint, where a motorist was creating a disturbance, stalling traffic at the intersection of Erie Avenue and Cayuga Street.

Officers attended and located the accused who was now parked in a parking lot on Erie Avenue.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication. A roadside screening demand was issued, which registered a fail.

The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit. 

As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old man from Scotland, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs 
80 Plus 

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded, and the driver’s licence of the accused suspended.
