37 Year Old Man Charged With Abduction Following Amber Alert

UPDATE

On Thursday July 25, 2019 just after 12:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about abduction and an assault at an address on Bissett Ave, Brantford.  The estranged father broke into the residence through the rear door.  The suspect was confronted by the mother and another resident who were both assaulted and threatened.  The suspect grabbed the two year old child and fled the residence in a vehicle with three other people.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the victims who had suffered minor injuries.   

Through investigation it was believed that the suspects may have gone to the Hamilton area.  With the assistance of the Hamilton Police Service a residence was checked however neither the suspects nor the child were located.  The Brantford Police were at point able to communicate with the suspect however he refused to disclose his location or return the child.  As a result of the investigation an Amber Alert was issued.   

At approximately 2:00 a.m. the Hamilton Police Service was able to locate the suspect vehicle and three people were arrested as they were believed to have been involved in the incident.  The child was not located at that time.   

At around 3:00 a.m. it was believed that the suspect was located at an address on Upper Ottawa Street in Hamilton.  The Hamilton Police Service was able to make contact with the suspect and just before 4:00 a.m. the suspect turned himself over to police and the child was located safely.  

The Brantford Police Service has continued to investigation the circumstances surrounding this incident and the involvement of the identified parties.  As a result of the investigation Shawn Jason McManus 37 year old has been charged with Abduction of Person Under Sixteen, Assault x2, Uther Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Utter Threats to Destroy/Damage Property and Break, Enter and Commit.  The accused has been held for a bail hearing.

A missing 2 year old child has been located safely after an Amber Alert was issued just after 3:00 a.m.

On Thursday July 25, 2019 just after 12:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about abduction and an assault at an address on Bissett Ave, Brantford.  An unknown number of people attended to the front of the residence and when the door was answered by the mother the estranged father broke in through the rear door.  The suspect was confronted by the mother who was then assaulted and threatened.  The suspect was then confronted by another resident inside the house who was also assaulted.  The suspect grabbed the two year old child and fled the residence in a vehicle with three other people.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the assaulted parties who had suffered minor injuries.   

Through investigation it was believed that the suspects may have gone to the Hamilton area and possibly to a residence in Hamilton.  The Hamilton Police Service were contacted and assisted in the investigation and did check a residence for the suspect and child just before 1:00 a.m. however they were not located. 

The Brantford Police were able to identify and made contact with the suspect however he refused to disclose his location or return the child.  As a result of the investigation an Amber Alert was issued. 
 
Just after 2:00 a.m. the Hamilton Police Service was able to locate the suspect vehicle being operated in Hamilton by three individuals that are believed to be involved in this investigation.  The three were arrested and are currently in custody.  The child was not located at that time.   

At approximately 3:00 a.m. the suspect was located at an address on Upper Ottawa Street in Hamilton.  The Hamilton Police Service was able to make contact with the suspect and just before 4:00 a.m. the suspect turned himself over to police and the child was located safely.  

The Brantford Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident and the circumstances surrounding the four parties that were involved.
