BPS Response to Enhanced Enforcement Announcement

Apr 17, 2021

On April 16, 2021, new restrictions were announced by the Government of Ontario, including a two-week extension of the current province-wide shutdown, in an effort to mitigate the rising case counts of COVID-19.

Enhanced enforcement measures were also announced for provincial offences officers, including police officers, under the Emergency Management and Civil Protection Act (EMCPA).

Once these new regulations are received, Brantford Police Service will conduct a thorough review and will notify the public on how we plan to implement the new provincial orders.

Brantford Police Service will not be conducting random vehicle or individual stops. We remain committed to providing the highest quality of policing service for the residents of Brantford and our pandemic enforcement initiatives will continue to be both complaint driven or proactive, with the goal of gaining compliance. Those that refuse to comply will receive the appropriate penalty.

We ask members of the public to respect the current stay-at-home measures and do your part to ensure the health and safety of our entire community. As soon as we have had an opportunity to conduct a full analysis of the new measures, we will communicate how this impacts our community.

This year has been particularly difficult for everyone. We know everyone is tired and overwhelmed with the changes but we need to continue to work together to protect the health and well-being of our entire community.

With our healthcare system at critical capacity, the Brantford Police Service continues to urge residents to take personal responsibility and follow the restrictions to limit the spread of COVID-19.
