Catalytic Converter Thefts

Apr 23, 2020

April 23, 2020

The Brantford Police Service has recently seen an increase in the number catalytic converter thefts from motor vehicles. Catalytic converter systems work to filter harmful pollution from vehicle exhaust. Catalytic converters have become an increasingly valuable item for thieves.

Typically these thefts have occurred overnight, where a suspect has crawled under vehicles and cut away the catalytic converter from the exhaust system.

The Brantford Police Service is asking the public to call police if suspicious persons are observed near parked vehicles in residential areas, parking lots, and commercial parking lots.

All vehicles are subject to these types of thefts, however a current trend involving these incidents relate to Hyundai Tucson and Santa Fe’s vehicles.
