Type:              Impaired – Alcohol
Incident:       20-9151
Location:       Fairview Drive and West Street
Incident:On Thursday, March 5, 2020 at approximately 5:25 p.m. Brantford Police responded to a report of an impaired driver on Fairview Drive and West Street. A citizen had observed a male who, while parked in a parking lot, stumbled from his vehicle and was drinking from a container. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver, Officers observed signs of impairment. Further investigation revealed open alcohol in the vehicle. Information was received that the driver was operating the motor vehicle with a suspended license. The driver was arrested and transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over 2x the legal limit. A 38 year old male from Brantford is charged with Impaired Operation and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code; Drive While Under Suspension and Drive motor vehicle – no insurance under the Highway Traffic Act as well as Owner Operate Motor Vehicle – no insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act. The accused’s vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:       Kiev Blvd
Incident:On Friday, March 6, 2020 at approximately 2:40 p.m. Brantford Police responded to a call from a concerned citizen who witnessed a male park a vehicle in his driveway and stumble from the driver’s seat. The accused was observed to then proceed to his front porch where he passed out. Community Patrol Officers attended the scene where the accused was located laying on the porch with the keys to the vehicle in hand. Officers observed signs of impairment and the accused advised he had consumed alcohol. The driver was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were 2x over the legal limit. A 61 year old male from Brantford is charged with Impaired Operation and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. The accused license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Incident:           20-9305
Location:          Erie Avenue
Incident:On Friday, March 6, 2020 at approximately 4:30 p.m. Brantford Police responded to a call regarding a minor motor vehicle collision in the parking lot of a business located on Erie Avenue. Information was received that a male driver was unconscious in the driver’s seat. Community Patrol Officers attended the scene where they located the vehicle and the driver.  Officers observed drug paraphernalia in the vehicle and investigation revealed the driver had just used Fentanyl. With the assistance of Emergency Medical Services, Narcan was administered to the driver. A 33 year old male from Brantford was charged with Impaired Operation under the Criminal Code. The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Location:      Wells Avenue and Dundas Street
Incident:On Saturday, March 7, 2020 at approximately 1:30 a.m. Brantford Police responded to a call regarding a two vehicle motor vehicle collision in the area of Wells Avenue and Dundas Street. Community Patrol Officers attended the scene along with Emergency Medical Services who transported one male driver to hospital with non-life threatening injuries. While Officers were speaking with one of the drivers, signs of intoxication were observed. The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The driver was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The driver’s samples were over the legal limit. A 36 year old male from Brantford is charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.

Location:       Erie Avenue
Incident:On Saturday, March 7, 2020 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Brantford Police received two separate calls from concerned citizens who observed a motor vehicle travelling dangerously on Erie Avenue. A child was reported to be a passenger in the vehicle. The callers observed that the vehicle nearly hit oncoming traffic and went up onto the curb. Community Patrol Officers attended the scene and located the vehicle unoccupied. Witnesses advised the driver had vacated the vehicle with a small child after colliding with a parked vehicle and then a tree. The driver and child were located a short distance away. Investigation revealed that the child had not been properly secured in the vehicle and the seats of the vehicle failed to be properly attached. Emergency Medical Services attended the scene, as the child received injuries from the collision and was transported to hospital. The driver of the vehicle failed to surrender her driver’s licence upon demand and was unable to provide any proof of insurance. Upon investigation, the Officer observed signs of intoxication and drug paraphernalia was located in the vehicle. The driver was arrested and given a demand for a Drug Recognition Evaluation as required by law. As a result of the Drug Recognition Evaluation the driver was charged. During processing, the accused was found to be in possession of a small quantity of suspected fentanyl. A 27 year old female is charged with Criminal Negligence Causing Bodily Harm, Impaired Operation – Drug under the Criminal Code; Operation of Unsafe Vehicle, Failure to Ensure Child Properly Secured, Fail to Surrender License, Fail to Notify Change of Address under the Highway Traffic Act. The accused is also charged with Owner Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:    Craig Street and Morton Avenue
Incident:On Sunday, March 8, 2020 at approximately 7:30 a.m. Brantford Police responded to a report regarding a damaged vehicle travelling well below the posted speed on Wayne Gretzky Parkway. Community Patrol Officers attended the area, located the vehicle turning onto Craig Street from Morton Ave and observed a female exit the driver’s seat. While speaking to the driver, Officers observed signs of impairment. The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The driver was transported in order to provide samples of her breath as required by law. The driver’s samples were over the legal limit. A 20 year old female from Brantford was charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. The accused’s license was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle impounded for 7 days.
