Incident:           22-20696
Location:          Brant Avenue

On Monday, May 29, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m. officers with the Brantford Police service received a call from an alert citizen to advise of a possible impaired driver. 

Police located the vehicle travelling southbound on Brant Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and a roadside test was conducted, which the driver failed.

The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of the legal limit.

Search incident to arrest located approximately 1.2 grams of suspected cocaine in possession of the accused. 

As a result, a 27-year-old man from Hagersville stands charged with the following violations: 
  • 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possession of a Schedule I Substance, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Location:       Brant Avenue and Ava Road

On Saturday, May 28, 2022, at approximately 12:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Brant Avenue and Ava Bridge Road, for a motorcycle crash. 

Police received a report from a concerned citizen of a motorcycle that had crashed into the train bridge located at Brant Avenue and Ava Road. The driver was observed to have fled the scene on foot.

Officers located the accused nearby and observed signs of impairment. The accused was arrested for flight from police.

The accused had sustained minor injuries as a result of the collision and was transported to hospital for treatment.

The accused was required to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of the legal limit.

Information received confirmed the motorcycle did not have a valid licence plate and was being operated without valid insurance.

Additionally, the accused was operating the motorcycle without a valid driver’s licence as he was determined to be a suspended driver.

Witness information provided to police indicated that the accused was driving at an excessive and dangerous rate of speed on Brant Avenue.

As a result, a 33-year-old man from Paris, stands charged with following: 
  • Operation While Impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • 80 Plus, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Dangerous Operation, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Drive Prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Flight from Police, contrary to the Criminal Code  
  • Fail to Remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle- Improper Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on Highway- No Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Auto Insurance Act 
  • Drive While Under Suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Contravene Licence Condition- Driving Ability, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Location:          King George Road (near Powerline Road)

Friday, May 27, 2022, at approximately 10:15 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service who were conducting road safety enforcement for speed violations in the area of King George Road between Powerline Road and Governor’s Road observed a vehicle travelling at an excessively high rate of speed.
 
A male driver was recorded travelling at a registered speed of 153 km/hr in a posted 80 km/hr zone.
 
As a result, a 28-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations:
  • Speeding: 153 km/h in a posted 80 km/h zone
  • Drive motor vehicle - perform stunt speeding by 50 or more km/hr per hour in the 80 km/hr zone
 
Additionally, the accused was served a 30-day administrative driver’s license suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for 14 days.

Location:          Grand River Avenue

On Tuesday, May 24, 2022, at approximately 11:40 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were conducting targeted speed enforcement on Grand River Avenue as a result of a recent serious motor vehicle collision and several public driving complaints. 

Officers observed a vehicle driving at a recorded speed of 77km/hr. in a posted 40km/hr. zone.

A traffic stop occurred and when speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. 

The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 49-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Operation while Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs 
  • Operation while Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentratio

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
