CRIME BRIEF: October 3, 2022

Location: Market Street
On Monday, October 3, 2022, at approximately 9:30 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a man who had allegedly started a fire within Victoria Park, Market Street.
Officers attended and located the male suspect. The fire had been extinguished prior to police arriving on scene.
Information received indicated the accused had provided a false identity to officers and was in violation of a valid probation order.
As a result of this investigation, a 36-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Mischief Under $5000
• Obstruct Police
• Breach of Probation Order

Location: Oakhill Drive
On Monday, October 3, 2022, at approximately 2:45 A.M., police were dispatched to attend a residence on Oakhill Drive, in regard to an offensive weapons call.
Investigation revealed that the accused and victim, a 21-year-old man, were in a verbal altercation. The altercation escalated when the accused allegedly retrieved a sword. The accused is then reported to have used the sword in a threatening manner towards the victim while also verbally threatening harm.
The victim fled the residence and contacted police. No physical injuries were reported.
Both parties were known to each other.
As a result, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Weapons, Dangerous
• Uttering Threats
• Assault with a Weapon
The accused was held for bail.

Location: Nelson Street
On Sunday, October 2, 2022, at approximately 8:45 A.M., officers were dispatched after receiving a call to report a man with a knife in the area of Nelson Street.
It was reported that the accused man attended a location on Nelson Street in search of the victim, a man he had allegedly had a prior dispute with.
The accused was reported to be in possession of a knife, was irate and threatening harm when he located the victim. Upon learning that the man was not at this location, the accused left on foot.
Officers attended, located, and arrested the accused at a nearby location on Dalhousie Street.
The accused was also determined to be in violation of a valid judicial release order.
As a result, a 22-year-old man from Branford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Uttering Threats to Cause Bodily Harm or Death
• Possession of Weapons for Dangerous Purpose
• Failure to Comply with Judicial Release
The accused was held for bail.

Incident: 22-40501
Location: Colborne Street West
On Sunday, October 2, 2022, at approximately 4:30 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a fast-food restaurant located at Colborne Street West after staff reported a male who appeared to be passed out behind the driver seat of a motor vehicle.
Officers attended and located the male within his vehicle. In speaking with the man, officers observed signs of impairment.
The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were twice the legal limit.
As a result, a 21-year-old man from Burford stands charged for the following Criminal Code offences:
• Operation while Impaired
• 80 Plus
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: 22-40328
Location: Colborne Street
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, at approximately 3:15 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a call to report a man creating a disturbance at a retail location at Colborne Street near Park Avenue.
The accused had allegedly become physically aggressive within the store after being asked to leave, damaging many items, and threatening the store employee.
The accused fled on foot prior to police arrival.
At approximately 3:30 A.M., officers were on scene conducting the investigation, when the accused re-entered the store.
The accused refused to identify himself to officers, and actively resisted arrest.
Once the accused was placed under arrest, he assaulted an officer. The officer did not sustain any physical injuries.
During the booking process, the accused assaulted two additional officers, causing minor physical injuries.
As a result of the incident, a 31-year-old male from Hagersville stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Mischief Under $5000
• Obstruct Peace Officer
• Assault a Peace Officer X3
• Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
• Cause Disturbance
• Resist Arrest
The accused was held for bail.

Incident: 22-40325
Location: Grand River Avenue
On Saturday, October 1, 2022, at approximately 3:00 A.M, patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling in an erratic and dangerous manner on Grand River Avenue.
Officers initiated a traffic stop to determine the driver’s sobriety.
Speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. A demand for a roadside screening device was issued, which the driver failed.
The accused was then placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
As a result, a 27-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with operating a conveyance with over 80 milligrams of alcohol contrary to the Criminal Code.
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: 22-39902
Location: Nelson Street
On Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at approximately 9:45 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Nelson Street residence for a report of a break and enter in progress.
Officers attended and located the accused sleeping on the floor of the residence. The accused was taken into custody without incident.
A search incident to arrest found the accused in possession of a replica pistol, and a switch blade knife.
Investigation revealed the accused is currently in violation of valid peace bonds.
As a result, a 24-year-old female from Hamilton, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
• Break and Enter with Intent
• Breach Peace Bond x 2
• Possess Prohibited Weapon
The accused was held for bail.
