Officers seek public assistance to locate discarded items linked to ongoing homicide investigation

Investigators with the Branford Police Service are asking members of the public to contact police if items associated to a recent homicide investigation, believed to be discarded, are located.

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service became involved in a homicide investigation in the area of Cayuga Street.

The accused departed the area of Superior Street and Cayuga Street on foot and was later arrested in the area of Park Road and Chatham Street.

It is believed that the accused may have travelled along the Shallow Creek Trail and Glebe Farm Trail areas.

From the scene to the place of arrest, officers believe that the accused discarded the following items, which have yet to be retrieved (see photos below):
  • Coat: dark-coloured, with a hood and a camouflage-style pattern on the rear
  • Sweatshirt: light-coloured, checkered, zippered sweatshirt with a hood
  • Hat: black baseball hat / beanie style headwear

Residents who live in the nearby area are asked to review their property and contact police if any of the discarded items are located. 

Should items be located, members of the public are reminded to not touch the items and to contact police at 519-756-7050.

Additionally, anyone who may have information, or video footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact Brantford Police Service at 519-756-7050.

ARRESTED: The Brantford Police Service would like to thank members of the public. Based on a tip from an alert citizen, the suspect in the active homicide has now been apprehended.

Investigators with the Branford Police Service are actively investigating a homicide and are advising the public of a wanted suspect.

On Saturday, October 22, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service became involved in a homicide investigation in the area of Cayuga Street, Brantford.

Officers attended and located a male victim who had sustained a stab wound.  

The victim was transported to hospital where despite receiving life-saving efforts, he succumbed to his injuries.

Police are actively seeking a male suspect, Nicholas CRAIG, 20-years-of-age, who fled the scene on foot.

CRAIG is wanted for 2nd Degree Murder and was last observed in the Eagle Place area of Brantford at approximately 9:30 a.m. 

CRAIG was last observed wearing a Burberry style jacket, with a zip-up black Louis Vuitton brand shirt underneath, Nike track pants, and red Nike shoes.  

There is a heavy police presence in the area while we continue to search for the suspect.  

The victim and suspect were known to each other.  

If members of the public observe the suspect, do not approach, but call 911.
