Brantford Police Charge a Second Male in Relation to the Shooting in January 2018

Brantford Police Service have charged a second person in relation to the shooting incident that took place in January 2018
On Monday January 1, 2018 just after 5:30 p.m. the Branford Police Service received a call about a male who had been taken to the Brantford General Hospital with life threatening injuries.  Investigation revealed that a shooting incident had occurred in the area of St Paul Ave and Terrace Hill Street.   The victim, Jeffrey Ronald Maxner died as a result of his injuries.
The Major Crime Unit investigated the incident and on February 2, 2018, Joel Scalzo a 28 year old Brantford resident was charged with First Degree Murder.
Members of the Brantford Police Service have continued this investigation into this incident since it occurred in January 2018 and as a result of the continued investigation a second person has been charged.  Preaktra Chao a 26 year old Brantford male has been charged with First Degree Murder. 
It is believed that the victim and the accused were known to each other and that this was not a random act of violence.

Charges Laid in Homicide Investigation

On Friday April 5, 2019 the Brantford Police Service investigated a shooting incident at a William Street address.  The resident of that address received a gunshot wound and was transported to hospital where he was pronounced deceased. 

The Brantford Police Service – Major Crime Unit has continued this investigation and on June 4, 2019 charged Terry Chad STUCKLESS with the murder of Gerald Robert MALE.

The Brantford Police Service would like to offer their condolences to the family of Mr. MALE and would like to thank them for their cooperation and patience during this investigation.

Crime Brief - June 3, 2019

Type:   Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:  19-20328
Location:  North Park Street
Incident:   On Sunday June 2, 2019 just before 8:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a report of a possible impaired driver on West Street near Galileo Blvd.  A vehicle had been seen driving at high rate of speed, driving erratically and skidded through an intersection.  Community Patrol Offices attended and searched the area for the vehicle.  While Officers were searching for the vehicle a second report was received about the same vehicle that had just mounted a curb and struck a fence and drove away on North Park Street.  Officers were able to locate the vehicle which was stopped but still running on North Park St.  Officers located the lone male driver in the vehicle and while speaking to him observed signs of impairment.  The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device.  The driver failed the screening device and was arrested.  While dealing with the accused a small amount of suspected cocaine was located inside the vehicle.  The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit.   A 27 year old Brantford male has been charged with 80 Plus and Fail to Remain at an Accident under the Criminal Code.  He is also charged with Possession of Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:   River Road
Incident:   On Saturday June 1, 2019 just after 7:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a suspicious vehicle.  A vehicle had been seen driving at a high rate of speed up and down River Road.  At one point the vehicle hit the curb and received a flat time.  A male driver was seen getting out of the vehicle and then got back in and drove away on a flat time.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the damaged curb and observed marks on the roadway.  Investigation revealed that the vehicle left the scene and was located parked in a driveway on Passmore Cres.  A male was seen a short distance away from the vehicle who was identified as the driver.  Information was received that the driver was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest.  The male was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the driver, Officer observed signs of impairment.  The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit.  As a result of the investigation a 39 year old Brantford male has been charged with Operation While Impaired, 80 Plus and Dangerous Operation under the Criminal Code.  The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and the vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:  Colborne Street
Incident: On Thursday May 30, 2019 at approximately 6:45 p.m. Brantford Police Service were conducting an separate investigation when they were approached by a business owner regarding a suspicious male.  An unknown male was seen hanging around the business and had parked in a no parking area.  Community Patrol Officers located and spoke to the male.  Information was received that the male was currently bound by a court order with conditions that he was currently contravening.  The accused was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the accused he was found to be in possession of a large quantity of suspected Cocaine, Crystal Methamphetamine and Fentanyl (approx. value over $22,000) and a pair of brass knuckles.    As a result of the investigation a 31 year old Brantford male is charged with Possession of Prohibited Weapon and Breach of Recognizance under the Criminal Code.  He is further charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act x3.

Location:  Colborne Street
Incident:  On Friday May 31, 2019 just after 6:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a motor vehicle accident on Colborne St.  A vehicle had been traveling on Colborne Street when it struck a vehicle parked at the side of the road.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the collision and the male driver.  While dealing with the driver he showed signs of impairment and was arrested.  The driver was given a demand for a Drug Evaluation.  The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he performed a Drug Evaluation.  As a result of the investigation a 38 year old Brantford male has been charged with Operation While Impaired under the Criminal Code.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:   Clarence Street
Incident: On Thursday May 30, 2019 shortly after 2:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a possible impaired driver who had just left a business on Market Street.  Community Patrol Officers located the vehicle travelling on Clarence Street.  Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the female driver.  As a result of the traffic stop, the driver was given a demand to provide a sample into a roadside screening device.  The driver provided a sample and registered a fail.  The driver was arrested and transported to the Brantford Police Service where she was to provide samples of her breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit.  A 21 year old Guelph woman has been charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
