Nine People Are Facing Firearm And Drug Related Charges

Brantford Police Service continues to actively investigate incidents involving firearms and illicit drug activity.
Brantford Police Service has charged three males and six females with numerous firearm and drug related charges after an investigation.
Members of the Brantford Police Service Task Force entered into an ongoing drug investigation that commenced this past spring and culminated on Tuesday, July 30th, 2019, with the execution of judicial authorizations at addresses on:
1. Pearl Street, Brantford, ON
2. Queensway Drive, Brantford, ON
3. Banbury Road, Brantford, ON
4. Westmount Road East, Kitchener, ON
In totality, the execution of the judicial authorizations yielded the following seizures:
• A large quantity of Canadian money
• 784 grams of Fentanyl with a street value of $196,100
• (65) 40 milligram OxyNeo tablets with a street value of $2,600
• (8) 20 milligram Oxycodone tablets with a street value of $160.00
• Pump action shotgun
• 21 shotgun shells
• 14 rounds of 9 mm ammunition
• 7 rounds of 45 calibre ammunition
• Hydraulic Press
• The seizure of a 2013 Audi R5Q and 2016 Porsche Cayenne that are being investigated as property obtained by crime.
The estimated street value of drugs seized is $198,885.00.
As a result of the investigation, three males and six females have been arrested and charged. Three of the accused were held for bail hearings and are facing a number of charges. Six others involved are facing charges related to the investigation and will appear in court at a later date.
1. Edison Tyler BEAL, 23 years of Kitchener is charged with:
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (fentanyl), contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
• Careless storage of a prohibited device (ammunition), contrary to section 86(1) of the Criminal Code
• Breach of Probation, contrary to section 733.1(1) of the Criminal Code
2. Skylar James BEAL, 23 years of Brantford is charged with:
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (fentanyl), contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (oxycodone pills), contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
• Careless storage of Firearm, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (Shotgun) contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous purpose, (Taser) contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 91(1) of the Criminal Code
• Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, contrary to section 92(1) of the Criminal Code
• Tampering with a Serial Number of a Firearm, contrary to section 108(1) of the Criminal Code

3. Ryan Oliver REED, 23 years of Brantford is charged with:
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (fentanyl), contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
• Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (oxycodone pills), contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act;
• Careless storage of Firearm, contrary to section 86(2) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, (Shotgun) contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code
• Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose (Taser) contrary to section 88(1) of the Criminal Code

Type: Disturbance
Incident: 19- 27499
Location: Salisbury Ave
Incident: On Sunday July 28, 2019 just after 6:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a call about a disturbance on Salisbury Ave. An unknown female was in the area, yelling and screaming, banging on peoples doors, damaging property and damaging vehicles. The female was seen going up and down the street. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located and arrested the female without incident. Investigation revealed that the accused had damaged a number of vehicles and personal property of several residences on the street. Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions. As a result of the investigation a 33 year old Brantford woman has been charged with Mischief to Property Under $5000 x 10 and Breach of Probation x 2 under the Criminal Code. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: West Street
Incident: On Saturday July 27, 2019 just before 8:30 p.m. Brantford Police received a 9-1-1 call about a suspected impaired driver on West Street. The driver was seen swerving in and out of her lane almost striking other traffic and driving at a high rate of speed. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop. Officers spoke to the female driver who showed signs of impairment. Information was received that the drivers licence was currently under suspension. The driver was arrested after a brief struggle and transported to the Brantford Police Service where she was to provide samples of her breath as required by law. The accused refused to provide samples of her breath. A 31 year old Brantford female has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand and Resist Arrest under the Criminal Code. She is also charged with Drive While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act. The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location: Colborne Street East
Incident: On Friday July 26, 2019 just after 2:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call at a business on Colborne Street East. An employee had observed an unknown male acting suspicious in the store. When the male observed the employee watching him he approached the employee and pulled out a knife. When the male pulled out the knife he threatened to physically harm the employee. The male fled the business on foot. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located and arrested the accused without incident a short distance away. Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions. As a result of the investigation a 30 year old Brantford male is charged with Assault with a Weapon, Possession of Weapons Dangerous, Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Breach of Probation and Breach of Recognizance. The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: Rawdon Street
Incident: On Monday July 29, 2019 just before 5:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about a Break and Enter to a residence on Rawdon Street. Sometime during the day unknown person(s) broke into the residence. The residence was ransacked and property damaged. Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they confirmed the Break and Enter. Investigation revealed that a vehicle and suspect(s) had been fled the residence shortly before the owner returned home. Officers were able to locate that vehicle being operated on Colborne Street East and a traffic stop was performed. Investigation revealed that the driver was currently wanted on an outstanding arrest warrant. The passenger was currently bound by a court order with conditions and was arrested for the Break and Enter to the residence. While dealing with the two accused Officers located approximately $16,000 dollar’s worth of suspected cocaine and a large amount of Canadian Currency in the vehicle. As a result of the investigation a 19 year old Brantford woman was arrested on the outstanding warrant and he been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime under the Criminal Code of Canada. An 18 year old Brantford male has been charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (cocaine) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is also charged with Possession of Property Obtained by Crime, Break, Enter and Commit and Breach of Undertaking under the Criminal Code. The two accused were both held for bail hearings.

Location: Charing Cross Street and Sydenham Street
Incident: On Monday July 29, 2019 just after 2:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision on Charing Cross Street at Sydenham Street. Community Patrol Officers attended to the collision where they spoke to the drivers involved. While speaking to the one male driver Officers observed signs of impairment. The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over two times the legal limit. A 71 year old Cambridge male has been charged with 80 Plus. His driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

37 Year Old Man Charged With Abduction Following Amber Alert

On Thursday July 25, 2019 just after 12:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about abduction and an assault at an address on Bissett Ave, Brantford. The estranged father broke into the residence through the rear door. The suspect was confronted by the mother and another resident who were both assaulted and threatened. The suspect grabbed the two year old child and fled the residence in a vehicle with three other people. Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the victims who had suffered minor injuries.
Through investigation it was believed that the suspects may have gone to the Hamilton area. With the assistance of the Hamilton Police Service a residence was checked however neither the suspects nor the child were located. The Brantford Police were at point able to communicate with the suspect however he refused to disclose his location or return the child. As a result of the investigation an Amber Alert was issued.
At approximately 2:00 a.m. the Hamilton Police Service was able to locate the suspect vehicle and three people were arrested as they were believed to have been involved in the incident. The child was not located at that time.
At around 3:00 a.m. it was believed that the suspect was located at an address on Upper Ottawa Street in Hamilton. The Hamilton Police Service was able to make contact with the suspect and just before 4:00 a.m. the suspect turned himself over to police and the child was located safely.
The Brantford Police Service has continued to investigation the circumstances surrounding this incident and the involvement of the identified parties. As a result of the investigation Shawn Jason McManus 37 year old has been charged with Abduction of Person Under Sixteen, Assault x2, Uther Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, Utter Threats to Destroy/Damage Property and Break, Enter and Commit. The accused has been held for a bail hearing.

A missing 2 year old child has been located safely after an Amber Alert was issued just after 3:00 a.m.
On Thursday July 25, 2019 just after 12:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about abduction and an assault at an address on Bissett Ave, Brantford. An unknown number of people attended to the front of the residence and when the door was answered by the mother the estranged father broke in through the rear door. The suspect was confronted by the mother who was then assaulted and threatened. The suspect was then confronted by another resident inside the house who was also assaulted. The suspect grabbed the two year old child and fled the residence in a vehicle with three other people. Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the assaulted parties who had suffered minor injuries.
Through investigation it was believed that the suspects may have gone to the Hamilton area and possibly to a residence in Hamilton. The Hamilton Police Service were contacted and assisted in the investigation and did check a residence for the suspect and child just before 1:00 a.m. however they were not located.
The Brantford Police were able to identify and made contact with the suspect however he refused to disclose his location or return the child. As a result of the investigation an Amber Alert was issued.
Just after 2:00 a.m. the Hamilton Police Service was able to locate the suspect vehicle being operated in Hamilton by three individuals that are believed to be involved in this investigation. The three were arrested and are currently in custody. The child was not located at that time.
At approximately 3:00 a.m. the suspect was located at an address on Upper Ottawa Street in Hamilton. The Hamilton Police Service was able to make contact with the suspect and just before 4:00 a.m. the suspect turned himself over to police and the child was located safely.
The Brantford Police Service is continuing to investigate this incident and the circumstances surrounding the four parties that were involved.

Media Release - Regarding Amber Alert
Inspector Scott Williams is in charge of the Investigative Support Branch for Brantford Police Service. The following are his comments on the use of the Amber Alert.
The Ontario Amber Alert is a warning system that quickly alerts the public of an abducted child who may be in danger. Time is critical in saving the lives of abducted children, and the main objective of the Amber Alert is always the safe return of the child. The decision to utilize the Ontario Amber Alert is based on established criteria, and is never taken lightly. Information obtained quickly through an Amber Alert may assist with the child’s safe and successful return.
Guidelines for requesting the Ontario Provincial Police to initiate an AMBER Alert have been distributed to all Ontario police services. The guidelines are used to ensure all alerts are appropriate. Once a child is abducted, there is no way to determine the exact location the abductor is headed, and as time passes, there is a growing geography of concern. The abductor could travel quickly, using various forms of transportation, so it is important to alert the entire province. As the abductor or vehicle information may be known to people in other areas of the province, issuing a province-wide alert may result with more information to assist with the investigation.
In Canada, the most common form of child abduction is by a parent or guardian. The term "parental child abduction” refers to when one parent takes, detains, or conceals a child from the other parent. Police decide on a case-by-case basis whether issuing an Amber Alert would assist in the recovery of an abducted child.
The Brantford Police Service actively investigates all criminal matters, and our measured response is indicative to the risk assessment of the incident. Our Service stands by our decision to connect with our policing partners to activate an Amber Alert.
On Thursday July 25, 2019, just after 12:00 a.m., the Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about abduction and an assault at an address on Bissett Avenue, Brantford. A male, known to police, orchestrated a ruse so that he could abduct his two year old child from the child’s mother. Accomplices of the male attended at the mother’s front residence door, and when she answered the front door, the estranged father gained entry by kicking in the locked back door.
After breaking into the residence, the estranged father assaulted the child’s mother and another occupant of the residence. He then physically removed his two year old child from the residence, and fled the area in a vehicle with the accomplices.
The Brantford Police Service follows strict guidelines for investigating child abductions. An investigation immediately commenced with experienced and seasoned supervisors who have Major Case Management backgrounds. A Senior Officer was consulted, who provided authorization to conduct an application of an Amber Alert.
Both prior to and after the Amber Alert, the investigation continued. The Brantford Police Service was assisted by the Ontario Provincial Police and Hamilton Police Service. The suspect vehicle was located in Hamilton, Ontario, and subsequent to that, further investigation revealed the location of the suspect. The suspect was arrested and the two year old child was located. Thankfully, the child was physically unharmed.
The Brantford Police Service gratefully extends thanks to the Ontario Provincial Police, Hamilton Police Service, and members of the public, for the successful completion of this serious criminal matter.
Unfortunately, people have taken the time to show their displeasure with the Amber Alert program. The Brantford Police Service has been inundated by numerous phone calls to our Communications Section, 9-1-1, and to our public email account. One person has called and complained 11 times; this is being investigated.
• Why did you have to send 2 Amber Alerts for the same event? My phone received at 3:04am and 3:36am.
• You guys are absolutely crazy with your Amber alerts. I live 6 hours drive away, in another province and you feel waking me up at 3 am is required.
• Perhaps if you do your job, we could sleep.
• Yes, I leave my phone on, but not because I want to be harassed by law enforcement, because I have elderly parent who may have a legitimate need for help.
• Respectfully, do your job and stop harassing citizens
• Please, please work on technology to stop unnecessary and health damaging alerts to people asleep. Soon people will find solutions that negate any good that might come from amber alert program

• Please stop sending the AMBER alerts to our phones in Ottawa. Since the abduction is in Hamilton, there is no way that the suspect is up in Ottawa, six hours away. We have things to do in the morning and this is the second time this night that the phone has woken us up, and it seems Brantford Police Services appear disproportionately on our phones here
The Brantford Police Service would like to remind the public that contacting the police service to complain takes resources away from legitimate police investigations. When a child is abducted, it is our duty to utilize any and all resources available to facilitate a lawful investigation, and to locate the child as soon as possible. Incident: On Saturday July 20, 2019 just after 8:00 p.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a vehicle traveling north on Erie Ave. Officers observed the vehicle as it travelled down Erie Ave and turning onto Cayuga Street. Officers observed the vehicle swerving within its lane and from side to side. Officers performed a traffic stop and spoke to the female driver. While speaking to the driver Officers observed signs of impairment. The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The driver was transported to the Brantford Police Service where she was to provide samples of her breath as required by law. The accused samples were over the legal limit. A 51 year old Brantford woman is charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. Her driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Incident: On Sunday July 21, 2019 just after 2:30 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a call about a disturbance at a business on Market Street. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located a large group who were involved in a verbal confrontation. Officers were able to disperse the crowd without incident. Shortly after the crowd left another altercation occurred a short distance away. Officers attempted to calm the situation when one male in the crowd refused to follow direction and began to fight with police. The male was arrested after a brief struggle. A 23 year old Hamilton male is charged with Obstruct Police and Cause a Disturbance under the Criminal Code.

Location: Conklin Road
Incident: On Saturday July 21, 2019 just after 1:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call at a business on Conklin Road. The victim had been inside the business and when he exited he noticed that one of his windows was smashed and that there was damage in the side of his vehicle. Someone from the housing complex was shooting BB’s from a residence and was causing damage. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they confirmed the damage and located BB’s. Officers were able to confirm the residence that the BB’s were fired from and a BB gun was recovered. As a result of the investigation a 32 year old Brantford male is charged with Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Careless Use of a Firearm, Mischief Under $5000 and Discharge Air Gun or Pistol with Intent under the Criminal Code.
Safety Warning – The Brantford Police Service would like to remind the public about the safety and dangers of owning replicas firearms such as Pellet Guns, BB Guns, Airsoft Guns and Paint Ball Guns. These types of guns can be used safely and legally, however people need to use them properly. People should use common sense when using these types of guns and understand that there are dangers associated to them. These types of guns cannot only cause damage to property, they can also cause harm if shot at a person or animal. The Brantford Police Service responds to a number of calls each year involving these types of guns including individuals who carry these guns (handgun or rifle) down the street and citizens and police at times cannot distinguish by just looking at them if they are real. This can cause an undue threat to public safety. While these types of guns are legal, there are many Criminal Code charges that people can face when they are used in a manner that threatens public safety or if they are portrayed as being real. These replica firearms can easily be mistaken for a real firearm until proven otherwise. If you chose to own one of these items, please remember to use them responsibly and in a safe manner.

Incident: On Saturday July 20, 2019 just before 2:30 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a vehicle travelling on Market Street as it approached an intersection at Grey Street. Officers observed as the vehicle failed to stop for the red light at the intersection. Officers performed a traffic stop and spoke to the female driver who showed signs of impairment. The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the screening device and was arrested. The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where she was to provide samples of her breath as required by law. The accused samples were over two times the legal limit. A 25 year old Paris woman is charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. The driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location: Market Street and Dalhousie Street
Incident: On Monday July 22, 2019 just after 6:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call about a motor vehicle collision on Market Street at Dalhousie Street. A vehicle had been travelling down Dalhousie Street when it turned onto Market Street and hit a lamp post. The driver reversed the vehicle and continued down the road. The collision had caused damage to both the vehicle and pole. Numerous calls were received by police about the vehicle and driver. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle which had stopped on Albion Street and citizens were keeping the driver in the area. Officers dealt with the male driver who showed signs of impairment and was arrested. The accused was transported to hospital with minor injuries as a result of the collision. While dealing with the accused he was given a demand to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused refused to provide samples. As a result of the investigation a 57 year old Brantford male has been charged with Operation While Impaired, Refusal to Comply with Demand under the Criminal Code. He was also charged with Fail to Remain under the Highway Traffic Act. The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Brantford Police Continue to Investigate Double Homicide

On Thursday July 18, 2019 at approximately 7:55 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting at an address on Park Road South. Community Patrol Officers attended to the address where they located the residents Larry Reynolds 64 years and Lynn VanEvery 62 years who were both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were treated at the scene by emergency medical services however succumb to their injuries.
The victims of this double homicide Larry Reynolds and Lynn VanEvery were husband and wife and did reside at the residence. There were other individuals in the residence at the time of the incident that were not injured. The number of people in the residence is not being released at this time.
The Major Crime Unit has continued to investigate this incident and as part of the investigation two vehicles were identified as being in and leaving the area. A vehicle was located on Rowanwood Ave.
Two vehicles have been identified as being in the area at the time of the incident. They are describerd as:
#1 Black Chrysler 300 4 door black, Shiny chrome trim around the doors. It had "10 spoke” shiny chrome rims with "blacked out” windows with black door handles.
#2 Dark grey or black vehicle – make and model are still being investigated.
A suspect male has also been identified as being in the area and is described as:
Suspect #1 male, wearing all black with a balaclava covering his face.
At this point in the investigation it is still unknown how many people were involved in this incident. As information becomes available it will be provided.
This incident is not believed to be a random act of violence, the investigation is still ongoing to determine the reason behind this targeted attack.

The Brantford Police Service is currently investigating a double homicide that took place this morning at approximately 7:55 a.m. at an address on Park Road South, Brantford.
On Thursday July 18, 2019 at approximately 7:55 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a shooting at an address on Park Road South. Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located a male and female victim who were both suffering from gunshot wounds. The victims were treated by emergency medical services however succumb to their injuries. The names of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
Members of the Brantford Police Major Crime Unit are currently investigation the incident. The area will be closed to the public for some time as the investigation continues. This incident is not believed to be a random act of violence.

Brantford Police requesting assistance in identifying a male
The Brantford Police Service is requesting the public’s assistance in identifying a male.
On Monday July 8, 2019 the Brantford Police Service responded to a call of a Sexual Assault at Earl Haig Park on Market Street, Brantford. The investigation involved a 20 year old female and an unknown male. The victim was not physically injured in the incident. Police are trying to identify a male who is believed to have information relating to this investigation. The male is described as a white male, between 30-40 years of age, bald, no shirt, wearing dark colored shorts. The male was carrying a blue bag with a green shirt over his shoulder. The male may have left the area in a red midsized car.
