Crime Brief - February 3, 2021

Type:                    Motor Vehicle Accident
Incident:             21-3193
Location:           Stanley Street

On Thursday, January 27, 2021 at approximately 5:40 p.m., a 9-1-1 call was received to report a motor vehicle collision had occurred on Stanley Street at Colborne Street. A transport truck was observed colliding with a hydro pole and immediately fled the area, travelling eastbound on Colborne Street.
 
Officers with the Brantford Police Service attended the scene. Members from the Brantford Fire Department and Brantford Hydro were on scene to assist, as the collision knocked the hydro pole into the roadway. A low-voltage wire fell onto the roadway and onto a motor vehicle which had been stopped. This vehicle had a single occupant who was assisted from her vehicle by Brantford Fire.  Brantford Hydro quickly secured the wire. No injuries were sustained.
 
The transport truck is described as red in colour, towing a white trailer with a globe type symbol on the front third of the trailer. Anyone with information is asked to contact Brantford Police Service at 519-756-0113.
 

 
Type:                   Uttering Threats
Incident:             21-3419
Location:           Erie Avenue
 
On Friday, January 29, 2021 at approximately 12:34 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a convenience store located on Erie Avenue in regards to a male who had threatened an employee.
 
The accused was advised by the store employee that he was unwelcome due to previous behaviour and asked to leave. An argument occurred between the two individuals, resulting in the accused threatening the employee before departing the store.

As a result of this investigation, a 31-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with Uttering Threats- Contrary to the Criminal Code.


 
Type:                    Theft from Motor Vehicle
Incident:             21-3495
Location:           Bruce Street and Rawdon Street
 
On Saturday, January 30, 2021 at approximately 4:33 a.m., Community Patrol Officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a male laying on the sidewalk at the intersection of Bruce Street and Rawdon Street.
 
Police observed a purse beside the male, who was identified and was unable to advise police who the purse belonged to or where he got it from.
 
Upon inspecting the purse, police located identification cards and attended to the owner’s residence where it was observed her motor vehicle had been entered. It was confirmed that the purse had been stolen from the vehicle.
 
As a result, the accused was placed under arrest.
 
A search incident to arrest found the accused in possession of a flashlight and a folding knife.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Theft Under $5,000 from a Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
  • Possession of Break In Instruments
 

 
Type:                    Impaired Driving
Incident:             21-3520
Location:           Murray Street / Grey Street
 
On Saturday, January 30, 2021 at approximately 11:59 p.m., the Brantford Police Service were advised of a male who had been refused service for alcohol sales at a retail location on Murray Street as he had displayed obvious signs of impairment when attempting to make the purchase.
 
After being refused service, the accused left the location and was observed driving his motor vehicle to a nearby residence on Grey Street.
 
Officers attended the residence, and upon locating the male, observed signs of impairment.
 
The accused provided a suitable sample of breath, which resulted in a "Fail”.  The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Station where he provided two samples of breath, as required by law. Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 56 year-old male from Brantford stands charged with 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver’s licence of the accused was suspended and the vehicle impounded.
 
Type:                    Impaired Driving- Alcohol
Incident:             21-3683
Location:           Melrose Street
 
On Sunday, January 31, 2021 at approximately 6:54 p.m., Brantford Police Service received multiple calls from witnesses to advise of a motor vehicle which was being operated while missing a tire.
 
The motor vehicle was observed by witnesses travelling first on Dalhousie Street, then from West Street to Dundas Street and lastly to a parking lot on Melrose Street.
 
Officers located and observed the motor vehicle enter the lot on Melrose Street. The accused exited the driver seat and was met by officers. The motor vehicle had sustained significant damage. While speaking with the driver, obvious signs of impairment were observed.
 
The accused was arrested for Operation While Impaired and transported to provide samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were double the legal limit.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 78 year-old male from Brantford was also charged with 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code. The driver’s licence of the accused was suspended and the vehicle impounded.
 
Type:                    Impaired Driving - Drugs 
Incident:             21-3707
Location:           Park Avenue and Colborne Street              
 
On Monday, February 01, 2021 at approximately 12:42 a.m., Brantford Police observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound on Park Avenue towards Colborne Street and a conducted traffic stop. Investigation revealed that the vehicle was registered to a female however, a lone male was observed operating the motor vehicle.
 
Officers spoke with the male, and investigation revealed that the male was currently wanted on a federal warrant out of Brant Ontario Provincial Police detachment. Furthermore, investigation revealed that the accused is currently bound by one valid driver’s licence suspension for unpaid fines.
 
At approximately 12:46 a.m., the accused was placed under arrest. A search incident to arrest revealed the accused was in possession of drug paraphernalia, approximately 2.5 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $250, and approximately 2.5 grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $626.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 48-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with:
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance contrary to the Controlled Drug and Substances Act x 2
  • Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
 

 

 

 

 

BPS Street Crime Unit Arrest

As previously reported, on Thursday, January 28, 2021, members of the Brantford Police Street Crime Unit commenced a drug investigation which led to the arrest of a 21-year-old male from the City of Guelph. The arrest occurred on Colborne Street, near Charlotte Street in the City of Brantford.

At this time, police seized an estimated 19.16 grams of suspected fentanyl with an approximate street value of $5,170 along with a quantity of Canadian currency. The accused was charged with Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking and was held for a bail hearing. The male was released from custody on Monday, February 1, 2021   

Members of the Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit continued the investigation and, as a result, the same male was arrested on Monday, February 1, 2021 for another drug related offence. On this occasion, police seized an estimated 28 grams of suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of $1600 and a quantity of Canadian currency. 

The accused, Brayden FERRALL, 21, from Guelph, was held for a bail hearing and faces an additional charge of Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking.

BPS Street Crime Unit Arrest

On Thursday, January 28, 2021, members of the Brantford Police Street Crime Unit commenced a drug investigation which led to the arrest of a 21-year-old male from Guelph. The arrest occurred on Colborne Street, near Charlotte Street, Brantford.

As a result of the investigation, police seized approximately 19.16 grams of suspected fentanyl with an estimated street value of $5,170. A quantity of cash was also seized. The accused male is charged with Possession for the Purposes of Trafficking and has been held for bail.
