Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

Incident# 21-33258

The Brantford Police Traffic Unit is investigating a serious single vehicle collision.
 
On Friday, August 27, 2021 at approximately 8:18 p.m., in the area of Pearl Street and Richmond Street, a red Sport Utility Vehicle struck a pedestrian. The driver of the motor vehicle remained on scene. Members of the Brantford Police Service, Brantford Fire, and Brantford / Brant Paramedics attended to assist. 
 
The pedestrian was transported to the Brantford General Hospital where they succumbed to their injuries. 
 
The circumstances of the collision are being investigated. The Brantford Police Traffic Unit would like to speak with anyone that has further information regarding this collision. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Constable Kris REID at 519-756-0113 extension 2228 or kreid@police.brantford.on.ca

Location:        Salisbury Avenue

On Saturday, August 14, 2021, at approximately 12:55 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen who allegedly observed a male masturbating in public view, in the yard of a residence located on Salisbury Avenue. 
 
Officers attended and, as a result of this investigation, a 45-year-old male from Brantford was arrested and stands charged with:
  • Indecent Act contrary to the Criminal Code
 


Type:               Impaired- Alcohol                           
Incident:        21-31170
Location:      Elgin Street
 
On Saturday, August 14, 2021 at approximately 4:16 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to an intoxicated male who arrived in the front lobby of the Brantford Police Station. 
 
Officers observed signs of intoxication and noted the male had arrived at the station by operating a motor vehicle, which was parked in the station lot.
 
The accused male was arrested on reasonable and probable grounds for Impaired Operation of a Vehicle and 80 Plus, and was required to provide samples of his breath as per law. Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit. 
 
As a result, a 59-year-old male of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation while Impaired 
  • 80 Plus 

Additionally, a licence suspension was issued and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Incident:        21-31349
Location:       Rawdon Street

On Sunday, August 15, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a disturbance outside a residence near Rawdon Street and Bruce Street. 
 
Male suspects were observed and reported by a citizen to be involved in a physical altercation where batons were allegedly utilized.
 
As officers arrived on scene, two male suspects matching the description provided by the caller, fled on foot. Officers successfully located and detained both suspects. A search for the batons was conducted in the area where the males were located. During this article search, officers located the following: 
  • 1.53 grams (approx.) of suspected Fentanyl with an estimated street value of $382 and 
  • 36.5 grams (approx.) of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine with an estimated street value of $3,650
 
Information received confirmed that one of the male suspects provided a false identity to officers. This individual was also found to be in possession of a canister of bear repellent pepper spray. Additional information received revealed that this accused male is currently bound by two separate Probation Orders, one Recognizance of Bail and one Weapons Prohibition. 
 
As a result of the investigation, the following young offenders (who cannot be identified) stand charged with the following:

A male (young offender) from Brantford:
  • Two counts of Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
 
A male (young offender) from Hamilton: 
  • Weapons Dangerous contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Obstruct Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Possession contrary to Prohibition Order contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Failure to Comply with Release Order contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Cause Disturbance contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence contrary to the Youth Criminal and Justice Act 

 


Type:                Stolen Vehicle                  
Incident:        21-31453
Location:       Birkett Lane
 
On Monday, August 16, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call related to a stolen vehicle observed at a location on Birkett Lane. 
Officers attended and two accused (one male and one female) were located in possession of a stolen motor vehicle, described as a white cargo van.
 
The accused parties were arrested for possession of a stolen vehicle.
 
Search incident to arrest located keys belonging to the stolen vehicle in addition to two other sets of keys, which were also reported at the time of the incident. Officers also located various break-in instruments in the possession of the accused male.
When dealing with the accused male, it was determined that a false identity was provided to officers, actively obstructing the investigation. 
 
As a result of the investigation, a 30-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with: 
  • Possession of Stolen Goods over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code, and 
 
A 26-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Possession of Stolen Goods over $5000 
  • Possession of Stolen Goods under $5000 x3 
  • Possession of Break In Instruments 
  • Obstruct Peace Officer 

 


Type:              Road Rage                       
Incident:       21-31566
Location:     Gillespie Drive and Ferrier Lane
 
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at approximately 9:50 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen and were dispatched to attend a road rage incident in progress at the intersection of Gillespie Drive and Ferrier Lane. 
 
The accused, a 29-year-old male, and the victim, a 45 year-old male, became engaged in a verbal argument. During the incident, the accused allegedly threw a construction level at the victim’s vehicle causing damage. 

As a result of the incident, a 29-year-old male from Brantford, was arrested and stands charged with Mischief contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:       George Street
 
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a dispute between two individuals in the area of Chatham Street and George Street.
 
It was reported that a 23-year-old female armed with a large wooden stick approached a 71-year-old male in a mobility scooter. The two parties allegedly engaged in a verbal altercation before the accused female struck the scooter with the stick causing damage. 

As a result, a 23-year-old female of Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Mischief Under $5,000
  • Assault with a Weapon 

 


Type:                Shoplifting

Location:       Colborne Street
 
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021 at approximately 4:28 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service attended a call for service at a retail store located at Colborne Street in regards to shoplifting theft. 
 
A male and female allegedly selected various items, placing them into a grocery cart, and then left the store without attempting to provide payment. The accused were observed by store security who notified police. The value of the items was approximately $93.
 
Officers attended and located the accused parties at a nearby location. The accused were in possession of the cart of merchandise. All items were recovered and returned.

As a result, a 46-year-old female of Brantford and a 49-year-old female from Brantford each stand charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Theft Under $5000 
  • Possession of Stolen Goods under $5000 


 

Type:                Impaired - Alcohol                          
Incident:        21-31669
Location:       Philip Street and Duke Street
 
On Tuesday, August 17, 2021, at approximately 8:54 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call for service in the area of Philip Street and Duke Street regarding a report of an intoxicated driver.
 
Information was received that a male was observed creating a disturbance in the roadway, yelling and dancing while in possession of an alcoholic beverage. The male was observed to be struggling to enter his motor vehicle, which
was stopped in the middle of the roadway.
 
Arriving on scene, officers located the suspect male and vehicle. Officers observed signs of intoxication.
 
The accused was subsequently arrested for Operation while Impaired.  During a search of the motor vehicle, police located several beer cans within the reach of the driver seat. 
 
The accused was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 32-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • 80 Plus 
 
Additionally, a licence suspension was issued and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:       Colborne Street
 
On Wednesday, August 18, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call for service related to an alleged assault that had occurred at a location on Colborne Street.
 
It was reported that the accused male entered the garage of a male victim stating he was looking for his cat. Upon being asked to leave, the accused allegedly punched the victim before leaving the area on foot. 
 
Officers attended the scene and located the accused nearby. Upon being advised he was under arrest, the accused male refused to comply with officers, resisting arrest. 
 
As a result of this investigation, a 51-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Assault
  • Resist Arrest 


Two Charged in Drug Trafficking Investigation

On Thursday, August 12, 2021, members of the Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit entered into a drug trafficking investigation.

As a result of the investigation, a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act Search Warrant was obtained and executed at a motel located on Colborne Street East. The Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team and uniform patrol officers provided assistance in the execution of the search warrant.

Officers seized a quantity of suspected crack cocaine and prescription medication with an estimated street value in excess of $1000, Canadian currency, and other offence related property.

As a result of the investigation, Brian Lee Patrick BOURGEOIS, a 41-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following:
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking x2
  • Failure to comply with probation order, and
 
Amanda Lee CRICK, a 33-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with:
  • Possession of a controlled substance for the purposes of trafficking x2
 
The accused parties have been held for bail.

CRIME BRIEF: August 12, 2021

Incident:        21-29559
Location:       King George Road and Powerline Road

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021 at approximately 4:53 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service attended a call for service at a retail store located at Powerline Road and King George Road in regards to shoplifting theft. 
 
The accused female allegedly took three full bags of various merchandise including cosmetics and clothing, leaving the store without making an attempt to provide payment. The accused was stopped by store security. The value of the items recovered was approximately $624.
 
As a result, a 25-year-old female of Brantford, stands charged with:
  • One count of Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code

Incident:        21-29876
Location:       Diana Avenue

On Friday, August 6, 2021, at approximately 7:38 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a driver passed out inside his motor vehicle at a location on Diana Avenue.
 
Police located a male who was passed out in the driver's seat of the motor vehicle. Officers observed drug paraphernalia and suspected fentanyl in clear view.
 
The accused male performed and passed the Drug Evaluation Test.
 
Approximately .03 grams of suspected fentanyl was seized and sent to Health Canada for testing. 
 
Subsequently, a 42-year-old male of Brantford was charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Location:       Helen Avenue / Buffalo Street
 
On Friday August 6, 2021, at approximately 10:06 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a disturbance occurring in the parking lot of an apartment building located on Helen Avenue.
 
Officers received information that a male who had been drinking left the scene, driving his motor vehicle. The male was reported to be travelling to a residence located on Buffalo Street.
 
At approximately 10:37 p.m., officers attended the location on Buffalo Street, and observed the suspect male within the described vehicle.
 
In speaking with the male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, officers observed signs of intoxication. An approved screening roadside demand was issued, which the driver failed.
 
The accused male was arrested on reasonable and probable grounds for the offence of Impaired Operation of a Vehicle and 80 Plus and was transported to provide samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of the legal limit. 
 
As a result, a 33-year-old male of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation while Impaired 
  • 80 Plus 

Additionally, a licence suspension was issued and the vehicle impounded as per law.
 
 


Type:               Impaired- Drug
Incident:        21-30373
Location:       Colborne Street West

On Monday, August 9, 2021 at approximately 12:35 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Brantford Police Service to advise of a possible impaired driver.
 
A male driver was observed operating a motor vehicle in a dangerous manner in the area of Clarence Street and Icomm Drive. The male travelled to a parking lot located on Colborne Street West.
 
Officers attended, locating the accused male and the vehicle. In speaking with accused, officers observed signs of impairment and the accused was consequently arrested for Impaired Operation.
 
A search incident to arrest located several prescription pills believed to be Percocet and Hydromorphone. The pills did not have a prescription or bottle associated to them.
 
Investigation revealed the accused was a G1 level licenced driver, who was not accompanied by a fully licenced driver. Additionally, the plates attached to the vehicle were not authorized for said vehicle. 
 
As a result, a 39-year-old male of Brantford, stands charged with the following: 
  • Impaired Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Possession of Substance contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act x2 
  • Class G1 License holder unoccupied by licensed driver contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Use Plates not Authorized for Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

Public’s Assistance Requested to Identify Suspicious Male

The Brantford Police Service is investigating three incidents of a similar nature and are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspicious male and vehicle. 

The incidents involved a suspicious, unknown male who has approached young females, attempting to call them to his vehicle. The male suspect has had a cell phone in his hand. The most recent incident occurred in the area of Memorial Drive near North Park Street. The young females who reported the incidents left the scene unharmed.

VEHICLE DESCRIPTION:
The vehicle is described as a late model 4-door sedan, dark grey / black in colour – possibly a Nissan Sentra. 

SUSPECT DESCRIPTION:
The suspect is described as male, approximately 30-40 years of age, with dark tanned skin, ear length hair and was reportedly wearing a green or yellow fluorescent top.

If this suspect is observed, please take note of the vehicle licence plate and any other descriptors and report the incident to Brantford Police Service at (519)756-7050 immediately. Do not approach or confront the suspect.

Four Arrested, Drugs and Firearm Seized

On Friday, August 6, 2021 at approximately 1:06 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a weapons related 9-1-1 call for service at a residence on West Street near Morton Avenue.

Information was received to advise of two suspect males with a firearm, engaged in a foot chase on West Street.

Officers attended and through investigation, located three suspect males who were involved in a physical altercation. The three suspects were subsequently identified and arrested.
 
A search incident to arrest located the following:
  • 28 grams (approx.) of suspected Cocaine, with an approximate street value of $2,800 
  • 40.5 grams (approx.) of suspected Crack Cocaine, with an approximate street value of $4,050
  • 400 (approx.) Xanax pills, with an estimated street value of $4,000
  • 0.90 grams (approx.) of suspected Crack Cocaine 
  • A replica firearm
  • 0.79 grams (approx.) of suspected Crack cocaine
Information was received to indicate an additional male may have been injured in the altercation. Officers attended the West Street residence of the male in order to verify his well-being and observed illicit drugs in the residence. Judicial authorization to enter the residence was received and police executed a search warrant pursuant to Section 11 of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

As a result, a fourth male suspect was arrested for Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking.

During the search of the residence, the following was located:
  • 49.16 grams (approx.) of suspected Cocaine, with an approximate a street value of $4,916 
  • 18.40 grams (approx.) of suspected Crack Cocaine, with an approximate street value of $1,840
  • Numerous drug paraphernalia items utilized in Crack-Cocaine production and trafficking

  • Possession of a Controlled Substance – Crack Cocaine

All of the accused are being held for a bail hearing.

CRIME BRIEF: August 5, 2021

Location:          Colborne Street

On Saturday, July 31,, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service attended a call for service at a retail store located on Colborne Street and Kiwanis Way in regards to the theft of an electric bike.
 
The e-bike was parked in front of the retail store when a male was observed and reported to have stolen the electric bike from the scene.
Through investigation, the accused was located at a residence on Maitland Street, along with the stolen electric bike. The stolen property, valued at approximately $3,000, was returned to the rightful owner.
 
As a result, a 39-year-old male of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Theft under $5000
  • Possession of stolen goods under $5000

Location:          Colborne Street
 
On Monday, August 2, 2021, at approximately 3:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a weapons related call at a facility located at Dalhousie Street near Colborne Street.
 
A male was asked to leave the facility by a staff member as a result of his behavior. The accused refused to cooperate and threatened the victim with a knife.
 
Officers attended and took the accused into custody. A search incident to arrest located a knife concealed on the accused. Investigation revealed the accused was in violation of two valid probation orders.
 
As a result, a 24 year-old male of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
  • Assault with a Weapons
  • Weapons Dangerous
  • Carry Concealed Weapons
  • Breach Probation
 
The accused was held for bail.
 

 
Type:                  Break and Enter
Incident:           21-29375
Location:          Wellington Street
 
On Monday, August 2, 2021 at approximately 4:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a suspicious male at a location on Wellington Street.
 
A concerned citizen observed a suspicious male at the rear of a vacant Wellington Street residence who was in possession of a large sledgehammer / pick-axe.
 
Officers attended and located the male inside the residence. The male was in possession of a large pickaxe.
 
The owner of the residence was contacted and verified the male did not have permission to be within the building. The officers observed signs of forced entry.
 
Information received confirmed the accused was in breach of two valid probation orders.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Break and Enter and Commit
  • Possess Break in Tools
  • Breach of Probation
 
The accused was held for bail.
 

 
Type:                  Stunt Driving
Incident:          21-29485
Location:          Dunsdon Street

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at approximately 11:08 a.m., the accused in this matter was operating a motor vehicle on Dunsdon Street near Sheena Avenue. Traffic officers were conducting speed enforcement in this area.
 
The accused was tracked with a handheld radar at recorded a speed of 88 km/h. Dunsdon Street is a posted 40 km/h zone at this location.
 
As a result, a 35-year-old female of Brantford, has been charged with the following Highway Traffic Act violations:
  • Drive Motor Vehicle Perform Stunt- Excessive Speed
  • Speeding 88 km/h in a 40 km/h zone
 
As per the recently updated Highway Traffic Act, the accused was served an administrative driver’s licence suspension (90 days) and vehicle impound (14 days) at roadside.
 

 
 
Type:                  Theft
Incident:          21-29511
Location:          Lynden Road

On Tuesday, August 3, 2021, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a disturbance related call at a retail store located at Lynden Road and Wayne Gretzky Parkway.
 
The accused male, allegedly entered the retail store, selected several high-value vacuum cleaners from the main area of the store and then proceeded into the storage area of the store with the merchandise. The accused then utilized a tool to break out of the emergency fire exit in an attempt to leave the scene in his vehicle, which he had previously parked behind the store.
 
Two store employees observed the actions of the accused and, when attempting to stop the theft, were assaulted by the accused.
 
Officers attended and placed the accused under arrest. 
 
Investigation revealed that the vehicle, as well as the unaffiliated licence plates were both reported stolen from another jurisdiction. A search incident to arrest located break and enter tools as well as stolen identity documents and credit cards within the vehicle
 
Further investigation revealed the accused had several outstanding warrants from other jurisdictions.
 
The total value of items the accused was allegedly attempting to steal was determined to be $10,932. All items were recovered and returned.
 
As a result of the incident, Jason Leonard Hill, 41, stands charged with the following Criminal Code charges:
  • Theft Over $5000
  • Theft of Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000 X 2
  • Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest X 2
  • Possession of Identity Documents X 2
  • Possess Stolen Credit Card X 2
  • Break and Enter and Commit
  • Possess Break and Enter Tools
 
The accused was to be held for bail.
