20-year-old Brantford man faces 27 counts of mischief for Downtown graffiti

A 20-year-old Brantford man faces 27 charges of mischief under $5,000 after spray painting multiple locations in Downtown Brantford.
Through investigation, officers identified the suspect who was arrested at 8:30 p.m., Thursday, January 27, 2022, at a location near Bridge Street and Darling Street.
As a result of the investigation, a 20-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with 27 counts of Mischief under $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code.

23-year-old Brantford man in police custody after weapons investigation

A 23-year-old Brantford man is in police custody in relation to an early morning weapons investigation.
At approximately 9:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 26, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Criminal Investigation Section and Patrol section entered into a weapons investigation in the area of Sheridan Street and Rawdon Street.
As a measure to ensure the safety of those within the neighbourhood, two nearby elementary schools were placed into a precautionary hold and secure, while members of the Emergency Response Team attended the area.
Just after 12:30 p.m., police located the suspect, a 23-year-old Brantford man, near the intersection of Colborne Street and Stanley Street. The male was taken into custody by members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team (ERT).
This investigation is active and ongoing. Police remain in the area to conduct the investigation however, there is no immediate risk to public safety as a result of this incident.

Location: Colborne Street
On Sunday, January 23, 2022, at approximately 4:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a 9-1-1 call reporting a man with a firearm at an apartment complex located at Colborne Street East near Echo Villa Avenue.
Officers attended the location and with the assistance of the Canine Unit and the Emergency Response Unit, a thorough search of the area was conducted.
Officers determined the report to be unfounded and the area was cleared by police at approximately 5:20 p.m.
The Brantford Police Service would like to thank residents who were in the area during the time of this incident for their patience and cooperation as officers worked to ensure their safety.

Location: Wayne Gretzky Parkway
On Sunday, January 23, 2022, at approximately 5:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend the area of Colborne Street near Clara Crescent regarding a motor vehicle hit and run.
Information was received to indicate that a vehicle had struck a parked van, causing damage, and then left the scene. The suspect vehicle was observed travelling towards Wayne Gretzky Parkway.
Officers located the suspect vehicle on Wayne Gretzky Parkway with significant damage. The vehicle was running and occupied by a sole, female occupant. In speaking with the female, officers observed signs of intoxication.
Officers administered an Approved Screening Device, which the accused failed.
The accused was then arrested and transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.
As a result, a 39-year-old female from Smithville, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- 80 Plus
- Fail to Stop after Accident
- Impaired Operation
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location: Wayne Gretzky Parkway
On Saturday, January 22, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise of a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Colborne Street East.
Officers attended the area, located the vehicle travelling northbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway and conducted a traffic stop.
In speaking with the male driver, officers observed signs of impairment and administered an Approved Roadside Screening Device, which registered a fail.
The accused was then transported to provide samples of his breath as required by law. However, the accused refused to provide samples.
As a result of the investigation, a 43-year-old Brantford man stands charged with Failure or Refusal to Comply with Demand contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location: Dalhousie Street
On Saturday, January 22, 2022, at approximately 10:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of a physical altercation at a location near Dalhousie Street and King Street.
Witnesses observed an interaction between a 23-year-old female (victim) and a 51-year-old male (accused).
The accused was reported to have been on foot when he allegedly reached into the victim’s vehicle to assault her. Witnesses were reported to have temporarily restrained the accused to prevent further injury to the victim while waiting for police arrival.
Police attended the scene and located the accused, who was now within his vehicle. The accused was arrested and charged with assault.
Further findings revealed that the accused had cannabis readily available to himself while in the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, a 51-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with:
- Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Have Care or Control of Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available, contrary to the Cannabis Control Act

Location: Mohawk Street / Emilie Street
On Saturday, January 22, 2022, at approximately 7:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver.
A vehicle was observed travelling northbound on Mohawk Street in an erratic and dangerous manner. The driver of the vehicle attempted to turn left onto Emilie Street, when the vehicle left the roadway, colliding with a hydro pole and a Mohawk Street residence.
Arriving on scene, officers located the accused man unconscious in the driver’s seat. When dealing with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment.
Information received indicated that the accused had taken the vehicle from the registered owner without consent and was operating a vehicle while under suspension.
The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over three times the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 37-year-old man from Ohsweken, stands charged with the following:
- Operation while Impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code
- 80 or over, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Take motor vehicle without consent, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive while under suspension, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act.
The accused was transported to the hospital for medical assessment and held for bail.

Location: Fifth Avenue
Between the hours of 11:30 p.m. on Monday, January 17, 2022, and 1:30 a.m., Tuesday, January 18, 2022, a break and enter was reported to have occurred at a Fifth Avenue apartment.
Investigation revealed that the suspect entered the apartment from the balcony, by prying a window open.
Several items were stolen from the residence.
Officers attended the location, identified and located the suspect nearby. The suspect was in possession of some of the stolen items.
As a result of the investigation, Dru Wesley HAMBLY, 46, of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Breaking and Entering
- Possession of Stolen Goods Under $5000

On Monday, January 17, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m. a man was blowing snow from his property, over the fence, onto his neighbour’s property, hitting the windows of the home.
Concerned for damage to his property, an elderly male neighbour exited his home in an attempt to stop the accused.
The accused became confrontational with the 82-year-old male victim, entering onto his property, kicking and swinging fists at the man. A verbal confrontation occurred, with the accused utilizing a snow blower to blow snow onto the victim.
The accused then threatened harm against the victim.
As a result of the incident, a 59-year-old man of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Assault
- Mischief under $5000
- Utter threats
Three charged with stolen vehicle, trafficking; fentanyl seized

Two men and one woman face multiple charges after a stolen vehicle was observed by officers.
On Thursday, January 20, 2022, at approximately 4:00 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling northbound on Pearl Street, which had previously been reported as stolen in another jurisdiction.
Officers observed the vehicle then pull into a driveway located on Palace Street. The two men and one woman occupying the vehicle exited and were arrested by police.
Search incident to arrest, located approximately 57.73 grams of suspected fentanyl within the vehicle.
As a result of the investigation, Judson CYBALSKI, 42, of Hamilton (no fixed address), stands charged with the following:
- Possession of stolen goods of $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Occupant of motor vehicle or vessel without consent, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession – Schedule I, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking – Schedule I, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Dale Randall BEATON, 50 of no fixed address, stands charged with the following:
- Possession of stolen goods of $5,000, contrary to the Criminal Code

44-year-old Brantford man faces multiple charges after search warrant executed at motel

A 44-year-old Brantford man faces multiple charges after the Brantford Police Service executed a search warrant at a Colborne Street motel.
On Thursday, January 6, 2022, as the result of a drug trafficking investigation, members of the Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit and the Criminal Intelligence Unit with the assistance of the Emergency Response Unit, executed a search warrant at a Colborne Street motel.
A search of the room revealed the following items:
- Approximately 0.37 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- Approximately 7.5 grams of suspected fentanyl
- A digital scale
- A bulk amount of Canadian currency
- Drug-packaging material
- Multiple stolen and fraudulent credit cards
- Possession for the Purpose – Schedule 1 – Other Drugs, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
- Possess – Credit Card Data x 4, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Failure to Comply with Judicial Release Order, contrary to the Criminal Code
As a result of the investigation, Derek Ewan WINTER, 44, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:
Additionally, Jesse David CARTER, 27, of Hamilton, who was located at the scene, stands charged with Failure to Comply with Judicial Release in violation of the Criminal Code.
The accused were held for bail.

TRAFFIC UPDATE: Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Highway 403
WAYNE GRETZKY PARKWAY / 403 TRAFFIC UPDATE:
Please be advised that the Wayne Gretzky Parkway overpass - both northbound and southbound are currently open but restricted to one lane in each direction.
Additionally, Highway 403 westbound has been re-opened by the OPP.
The Ministry of Transportation will be attending the site today to conduct a full assessment of the bridge.
Additional details will be provided as available.
ORIGINAL RELEASE: January 14, 2022
The Brantford Police have closed Wayne Gretzky Parkway in both directions after concrete began falling from the overpass onto Highway 403.
The westbound lanes of Highway 403 have been shut down by the Ontario Provincial Police.
The Ministry of Transportation has been notified and will be attending to assess the overpass.
Traffic is being re-routed and motorists and pedestrians are requested to avoid the area.
UPDATE
An engineer from the Ministry of Transportation has conducted an initial assessment and as a result Wayne Gretzky Parkway will remain closed in both directions overnight. The bridge will be re-evaluated in daylight.
CRIME BRIEF: January 13, 2022

Location: Salisbury Avenue
On Wednesday, January 12, 2022, at approximately 5:00 p.m., a concerned citizen called 9-1-1 to advise of a possible impaired driver in the area of Salisbury Avenue.
The caller reported that the driver was observed behind the wheel of a vehicle while appearing to be falling asleep, driving slowly, and swerving erratically.
Brantford police attended the area and located the motor vehicle at the intersection of Salisbury Avenue and Ontario Street. A lone female was observed behind the wheel.
A traffic stop occurred, and in speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.
The accused was arrested for operation while impaired and transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples were over three times the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 45-year-old female from Kitchener stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Operation while Impaired - plus 80
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

On Monday, January 10, 2022, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a Sheridan Street residence in regard to an assault.
Officers attended and investigation revealed that the accused, a 31-year-old man, had physically assaulted a 65-year-old male victim.
The victim was transported to hospital where he received medical treatment for minor physical injuries.
As a result, a 31-year-old man from Brantford (No Fixed Address), stands charged with assault causing bodily harm, a Criminal Code violation.

Location: King George Road
On Sunday January 9, 2022, at approximately 11:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of King George Road and Oxford Street. Information was received to advise of a possible impaired driver.
Officers attended the area and located the motor vehicle. A lone man was occupying the driver’s seat.
A traffic stop occurred and in speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment.
At approximately 11:30 p.m., the accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug.
The accused was submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert Examination, as required by law. The accused was found to be impaired.
As a result, a 32-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with Operation while Impaired (drug) contrary to the Criminal Code.
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location: Sheridan Street
On Saturday, January 8, 2022, at approximately 2:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a Sheridan Street residence in regard to a report of a break and enter.
Officers attended the location and received information to indicate a man entered the residence thru the front door. The accused was confronted by two residents, who asked him to leave. The accused refused to leave, broke a lamp, and physically hit and verbally threatened one of the residents.
The victims and the accused were known to each other.
The accused, Shawn Joseph BERGMAN, 36, of Brantford, was subsequently arrested and charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Assault
- Break and Enter and Commit
- Mischief Under $5,000
- Uttering threats to cause death
The accused was held for bail.

Location: Colborne Street
On Friday, January 7, 2022, at approximately 8:30 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a suspicious vehicle within the parking lot of a motel located on Colborne Street.
Investigation revealed that the licence plate attached to the vehicle was not registered to this vehicle. The vehicle had previously been reported to police as stolen.
The driver of the vehicle was identified, and information was received to indicate that the accused was in violation of a valid release order and driving prohibition.
When speaking with the accused, a false identity was provided to officers.
As a result of this investigation, Jeffery Darryl SHARPE, 35, of Brantford (No Fixed Address), stands charged with the following:
- Possession of Stolen Goods over $5,000 contrary to the Criminal Code
- Failure to comply with Judicial Release contrary to the Criminal Code
- Obstruct a Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code
- Failure to Comply with Undertaking contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive Motor Vehicle while Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Use Plate Not Authorized for Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
The accused was held for a bail hearing.

On Friday, January 7, 2022, at approximately 12:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service conducted a traffic stop in the area of Bosworth Court and Wayne Gretzky Parkway after receiving information to advise of a possible impaired driver.
Officers located the vehicle, which was being operated by a lone female. When speaking with the accused, signs of intoxication were observed.
The accused was then placed under arrest for impaired operation and was transported in order to provided samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
As a result of this investigation, a 47-year-old woman from St. Catharines, stands charged with Impaired Operation - Plus 80, contrary to the Criminal Code.
Additionally, a licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

On Wednesday, January 5, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a possible impaired driver travelling eastbound on Colborne Street near Brant Avenue and conducted a traffic stop.
In speaking with the male driver, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, officers observed signs of impairment.
The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
As a result, the accused, a 28-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with Over 80, contrary to the Criminal Code.
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
Break and Enter, Mischief charges laid in relation to October 9, 2021 incident at 282 Stanley St.

A 48-year-old man stands charged with one count each of break and enter and mischief after an incident occurred in October 2021, at the site of the former Arrowdale Golf Gourse, located at 282 Stanley Street.
On Saturday, October 9, 2021, at approximately 2:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the property at 282 Stanley Street in relation to an alarm call.
Investigation revealed that the lock to the front gate of the property had been cut in order to gain entry. Individuals were found at the site, refusing to leave.
The Brantford Police Service has been actively monitoring the site in an effort to preserve the peace, maintain public safety and investigate criminal wrongdoing in accordance with legislated responsibilities and in the best interest of all involved.
It is always the goal of the Brantford Police Service to resolve occurrences with diplomacy and peaceful communication. As it is our bound duty to ensure the safety and well-being of the public, officers will first focus efforts to de-escalate a potential situation but, in the event of criminal activity, those committing an offence can be charged and arrested. As a result of police investigation, on January 11, 2021, Trevor Riley BOMBERRY, 48, of Hagersville, surrendered himself to the Brantford Police Service, was arrested, charged and released on a Form 10 for the following Criminal Code violations:

Search Warrant results in Multiple Firearms and Drug Related Charges for 35-year-old man

A 35-year-old man from Brantford is facing face multiple weapons and drug related charges after the Brantford Police Service executed a search warrant at a residence located on Grand River Avenue.
On Thursday, January 6, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Uniform Section and the Major Crime Unit entered into a weapons investigation.
As a result of the investigation, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and uniform patrol officers,
a search warrant was obtained and executed at a residence located on Grand River Avenue.
The following items were located and seized from the residence:
- Four replica firearms
- Multiple rounds of live ammunition
- A quantity of Canadian currency
- Police duty belt with high-capacity magazines (prohibited devices)
- Stun gun (prohibited weapon)
- Drug trafficking paraphernalia
- Approximately 65.4 grams of suspected fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $16,352
- Approximately 122 grams of suspected methamphetamine, with an estimated street value of $18,330

As a result of this investigation, Matthew Joseph LYNCH, 35, from Brantford, stands charged with the following:
- Unauthorized possession of weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession of a prohibited device x 2, contrary to the Criminal Code

- Possession contrary to order x 4, contrary to the Criminal Code

Assault and Mischief Charge Laid after Altercation at 282 Stanley Street

A 19-year-old man stands charged with one count each of assault and mischief after an altercation occurred at the site of the former Arrowdale Golf Gourse, located at 282 Stanley Street.
On Friday, December 10, 2021, at approximately 12:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were in attendance at the property, when a verbal altercation occurred between several individuals. The situation escalated when one man became physically aggressive against another.
The victim, a 45-year-old man, did not sustain any physical injuries during the incident.
Officers were in attendance in an effort to keep the peace and maintain a safe environment for all parties.
The Brantford Police Service will act to preserve the peace, maintain public safety and investigate criminal wrongdoing in accordance with legislated responsibilities and in the best interest of all involved.
