Man in Custody for Attempt Sexual Assault

Brantford Police are currently involved in an ongoing investigation in the area of Paris Road and Seneca Crescent. Just prior to 2pm a male attempted to sexually assault a female teenager in the Paris Road and Henderson Avenue area. The suspect fled the scene in a motor vehicle and was promptly apprehended by police. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident. At this time there is no further threat to public safety as the suspect is in custody.
Investigators are currently interviewing witnesses to the incident. More information will become available as the investigation progresses. Anyone who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Det. Jason Sinning of the Major Crime Unit at 519-756-7050 ext. 2265.

Brantford Police Continue to Investigate the Shooting at a Residence on Strawberry Lane

On Wednesday December 4, 2019 at approximately 11:15 p.m. an unknown shooter fired numerous shots into the front of the residence.  Investigation revealed that many of the rounds penetrated the second story and entered into the bedroom of a sleeping two year old female.  At least one of the bullets narrowly missed the toddler who was sleeping in her bed. 

The Brantford Police Service Major Crime Unit is continuing to investigate this incident.  Police have canvassed the area and have spoken to a number of residents.  Police continue to appeal to the public for their assistance.  Anyone with information or anyone who may have surveillance video in the area is asked to contact police.

Brantford Resident Charged with Child Luring Offences

On December 3rd, 2019 the Brantford Police Service was alerted by the United States -Homeland Security and the Alburquerque Police Department that a male from Brantford  had engaged in on-line luring of a female believed to be 14 years of age.

As a result of the joint investigation, members of the Brantford Police CASA Unit (Child Abuse and Sexual Assault), arrested  a 60 year old male resident of Brantford and charged him with sex related offences, including Luring a child under 16 yrs old.

Members of the BPS-CASA Unit further executed a search warrant at a residence on Freeborn Ave, where they seized several computers and electronic devices used to facilitate the offences.

Police believe that the accused used several social media chat sites with the user name of Canadainman_47.  The Brantford Police Service believes that there may be other victims.

Brantford Police are Investigating a Shooting At a Residence on Strawberry Lane

Brantford Police assist City Officials at Homeless Encampment

On Wednesday December 4, 2019 at approximately 9:00 a.m. the Brantford Police Service attended with City officials to the encampment known as the "Welcome Love Camp” that is currently set up on both private and City owned property. City officials were going to be cleaning up part of the encampment that was on City owned property. The Brantford Police Service attended to assist with keeping the peace as a coordinated effort was being made to assist those that were living in the area. Occupants had been given notice in advance of today’s efforts and had been advised that they were trespassing. Occupants were given ample notice that they would need to relocate and the area of the encampment cleaned up. Emergency Shelter facilities and support services were set up to help those that may have been affected prior to today’s events.

Upon Police arrival, a fire was seen encompassing part of the encampment and Officers had to move quickly in order to rescue an individual before he was injured. Brantford Fire was contacted, attended and quickly extinguished the fire. A criminal investigation is now being conducted into the fire and how it started. While Officers were onscene, Emergency Medical Services needed to be contacted for a male who was found unresponsive in the encampment and who may have been suffering from hypothermia.

The Brantford Police Service will continue to assist in keeping the peace while the City and other agencies work to assist those that belong to this encampment.

Police Investigate Suspicious Person at Donegal Park

On Tuesday November 26, 2019 at approximately 5:00 p.m. an 11 year old female youth was playing in Donegal Park on Donegal Drive.  The youth was playing in and around the forested area when an unknown male came out of the forest and grabbed her on the shoulder.  When the youth screamed the male fled on foot out of the park. 

The suspect male is described as a white male, between 40-50 years of age, wearing a grey hoodie with hood up and blue jeans.

Brantford Police Investigate Report of Firearm at a Residence on Colborne Street East

On November 27, 2019 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a   9-1-1 call about a person(s) with a firearm at a residence on Colborne Street East, Brantford.  A group of individuals were seen outside the residence and one of them was seen holding a possible firearm.  Community Patrol Officers, Brantford Police – Emergency Response Team and BPS – K-9 attended to the area where they located the residence and conducted an investigation.  In the interest of public safety, the area was contained and the roads were closed to traffic.  Police were able to make contact with the occupants inside the residence who were co-operative with the investigation.  As a result of the investigation the information was deemed to be unfounded.  There will continue to be a police presence in the area as the investigation is concluded.  The Brantford Police Service would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the incident was investigated.

Brantford Police Traffic Unit is Investigating a Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

On November 23rd, 2019 at approximately 2:31pm, members of the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a serious head on motor vehicle collision on Fairview Drive near Briar Park Road.  Brantford Fire and Brant/Brantford Paramedics were also dispatched to the collision.

Officers arrived at a collision in the eastbound lanes of Fairview Drive.   A 74 year old driver of one of the vehicles was transported by ambulance to the Brantford General Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. 

The 74 year old driver from Brantford remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Fairview Drive between West Street and Memorial Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation as members from the Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the collision scene.  All roadways are now open.

The Brantford Police Service is scheduled for a site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on the Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at the public information session December 11, 2019 between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm.  The session will be conducted in the Community Room located at the Brantford Police station at 344 Elgin Street, Brantford.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 519-756-0113 extension 3004 on December 11, 2019 between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm.  Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.

Brantford Police Charge Male After Gun Fired Inside Residence

Brantford Police Service has charged a male after a firearm was discharged inside a residence.  
On Monday, November 18th, 2019 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible gunshot sound that was heard at a residential complex on Elgin Street.  
Upon arrival Community Patrol Officers observed a hole in the front door to a unit within the residential complex.  The hole appeared to have been caused by a firearm discharged from within the residence.  Due to the concern for public safety Officers cleared the residence and no one was located inside.  Officers did observe ammunition inside the residence. 
Investigation revealed that the occupant may have left and gone to another location.  Officers attended to that address where they located the resident.  The accused was arrested without incident.  No injuries or victims have been reported at this time from this incident.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions that the accused was currently contravening.  A 40 year old Brantford male has been charged with Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order and Careless Storage of Ammunition under the Criminal Code.
