1. BUILDING REPAIRS

A report dated June 29, 2009, from Inspector G. Nelson, was reviewed, which indicated the interlocking brick at the front of the Police facility was in dire need of replacement due to their breaking, chipping and heaving. He reported that their current condition, if left unaddressed, could pose a risk to health and safety of staff and visitors to the facility.

Subsequently, quotations were received for the replacement of the interlocking brick with poured concrete, and staff recommended the quotation of R.L. Lancaster Construction Ltd., at a price of $18,500, plus GST, be accepted. Inspector Nelson also requested the Board approve the transfer of the funds from a reserve account to a minor capital account in order to fund the project.

THAT the quotation of R.L. Lancaster Construction Ltd., to complete the replacement of interlocking brick at the Brantford Police facility, at a cost of $18,500.00 + GST, be accepted.

THAT the Brantford Police Services Board approves the transfer of $19,425.00 from Reserve Account RF127 (Building Maintenance) to Minor Capital Account PD0903 in order to fund the replacement of interlocking brick at the Brantford Police facility.

2. ACTIVITY REPORT

Inspector Scott Easto, i/c Quality Assurance Branch, joined the meeting at 3:20 p.m. In response to direction received at the March meeting of the Board, Inspector Easto presented a condensed version of the 2008 Annual Report, to be provided to the public through an insert into a local newspaper. Inspector Easto pointed out that this publication would enhance communication to the public, a goal of the Business Plan.

Suggestions for future publications were provided to Inspector Easto, including seeking advertisements to defray the cost, and only publishing the abridged version once every business cycle.

THAT the Brantford Police Services Board approves the publication and distribution of a Brantford Police Service Activity Report in the Penny Saver, at a cost of $4,686.73, and that these funds be taken from Account #150350.4015 (Police Services Board – Education).

3. ADULT SCHOOL CROSSING GUARD PLACEMENT

The Board received a report dated June 26, 2009, from Ms. S. Lawson, P.Eng., General Manager – Engineering and Operational Services, advising of the installation of mid- block pedestrian signals at Pauline Johnson Collegiate on Colborne Street. The report also outlined a requirement for an adult school crossing guard to be present during the periods students travel to/from school and at lunch time.

THAT the Brantford Police Services Board receives a report from Ms. S. Lawson, General Manager – Engineering and Operations Services, regarding the placement of an adult school crossing guard at the new mid-block pedestrian signal on Colborne Street at Pauline Johnson C.V.S.

THAT the Brantford Police Services Board contact the Grand Erie District School Board to advise that the Board has no ability to pay for additional Adult School Crossing Guards, but would be happy to work with the School Board to see if guards can be re- assigned.
