BPS seek information from public related to trailer thefts; one man arrested

Officers with the Brantford Police Service, with assistance of Six Nations Police Service, have arrested a Branford man and recovered one trailer stolen from the City of Brantford.

Police investigation revealed that between Monday, April 12, 2021, and Monday, May 16, 2022, there have been nineteen trailer thefts reported in the City of Brantford. 

The types of trailers reported stolen include utility trailers, dump trailers, enclosed trailers, flatbed trailers, and camper trailers. To date, police have recovered two of the stolen trailers, leaving seventeen trailers currently outstanding. 

On Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 6:30 a.m., a dump trailer, was reported stolen from an Icomm Drive the parking lot.

On Monday, May 16, 2022, at approximately 1:20 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Service and Six Nations Police Service located the trailer at a location on Sour Springs Road, Ohsweken. A search warrant was executed, and the trailer recovered.

As a result of this investigation, Mathew COWAN, 25, of Ohsweken, stands charged with Possession of Stolen Property Over $5000, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Officers are seeking information from the public related to the thefts and are advising members of the public to store their recreational or utility trailers in well-lit, secure locations and to contact police to report any instances of property theft.
