CRIME BRIEF: August 30, 2022

Type:                 Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-35121
Location:         Stanley Street near Darling Street

On Sunday, August 29, 2022, at approximately 12:45 A.M., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling at excessive speeds in the area of Stanley Street near Darling Street and conducted a traffic stop.

When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication. 
A demand for an approved screening device was issued. The accused performed the test and registered a fail.

The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 26-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, the accused was served notice of suspension, and the vehicle was impounded. 



Type:                 Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-34858
Location:         Morton Avenue and West Street

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, at approximately 4:15 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Morton Avenue and West Street.

Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle in the area of Market Street and Grey Street. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner. 

Police conducted a traffic stop at the intersection of Pearl and Waterloo Street. In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.

A demand for an approved screening device was issued. The accused failed to comply with the demand to provide a suitable sample of breath as required by law.
 
As a result, a 29-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • Failure or refusal to comply 
 
Additionally, the accused was served notice of suspension, and the vehicle was impounded. 
 


Type:                 Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-34809
Location:         Park Road North

On Saturday, August 27, 2022, at approximately 1:45 A.M., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a possible impaired driver in the area of Powerline Road and Park Road North.

Officers observed the vehicle travelling in an erratic manner and a traffic stop was conducted.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. 

A demand for an approved screening device was issued. The accused performed the test and registered a fail.

The accused was then arrested for Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration level and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit. 

Search incident to arrest located an open container of alcohol within the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 39-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with: 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 


Type:                 Hit and Run / Impaired
Incident:          22-34732
Location:         Conklin Road and Mount Pleasant Street

On Thursday, August 26, 2022, at approximately 5:45 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a hit and run in the area of Conklin Road and Mount Pleasant Street.

Witness reports assisted police to locate the suspect vehicle and driver on Phelps Road. 

In speaking with the driver, signs of impairment were observed. Open liquor was observed within reach of the driver.

The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were three times the legal limit.

Information received indicated the accused did not have a valid license.

As a result, a 28-year-old man from Ohsweken stands charged with the following:
  • Operation While Impaired – Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Failure to Stop After Accident, contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Fail to Report Accident, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act
  • Drive Motor Vehicle – No Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
 
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded.
 


Type:               Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-34614
Location:         Market Street South

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, at approximately 9:00 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen to report a possible impaired driver at a fast-food restaurant located on Market Street South.

Officers arrived on scene and located the accused. In speaking with the accused, signs of impairment were observed.

A demand for an approved screening device was issued. The accused performed the test and registered a fail.

The accused was then arrested for Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration level and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit. 

As a result, a 42-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration

Additionally, a licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded.
 


Type:                 Disturbance
Incident:          22-34603
Location:         Dalhousie Street

On Thursday, August 25, 2022, at approximately 6:15 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a disturbance at a Dalhousie Street location.

A report was received that a man was yelling at random people and causing a disturbance near a Dalhousie Street retail store.

The store owner approached the accused and asked him to move along from their property.

At this time, the accused became assaultive towards the store owner.
 
The accused allegedly punched the victim in his side before retrieving a chain from a bicycle, swinging it in attempt to hit the victim. 

The victim fled into the store for safety and waited for police to arrive.  
Officers arrived on scene and advised the accused he was under arrest.
 
At this time, the accused became assaultive towards police, resisting arrest.

The victims did not receive any physical injuries.

As a result, a 35-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Cause Disturbance
  • Assault
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Assault a Peace Officer
  • Resist Arrest

The accused was held for bail. 


 
Type:                 Break and Enter / Theft
Incident:          22-34382
Location:         Colborne Street

On Wednesday, August 24, 2022, at approximately 11:30 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a report of a break and enter that had just occurred at an apartment located on Colborne Street near Charlotte Street.

Investigation revealed that the accused was within the halls of the apartment building when he allegedly entered an unlocked apartment and proceeded to steal a quantity of currency from a purse located within the apartment.

The victim was home at the time of the occurrence but did not observe the theft.

Officers attended and thru investigation, located the accused nearby.

The accused was arrested, and the victim’s belongings returned.

Information was received to indicate the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result of this investigation, a 33-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Break and enter 
  • Theft under $5000 
  • Breach of probation 
 


Type:                 Road Rage
Incident:          22-34274
Location:         Paris Road and Ava Road

On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of road rage incident involving two men in the area of Paris Road and Ava Road.

After one man accused the other of cutting him off and threatening him, both vehicles pulled over into a parking lot on Paris Road.

At this point, the accused exited his vehicle and allegedly punched the victim while he was seated in his vehicle. The accused is also reported to have broken the driver’s side window.

The victim sustained minor injuries and did not require medical attention. 

As a result, a 39-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Uttering Threats to Cause death or bodily harm 
  • Assault
  • Mischief under $5000 


Type:                 Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-34264
Location:         Mount Pleasant Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway
 
On Tuesday, August 23, 2022, at approximately 4:15 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a multiple motor vehicle collision at Mount Pleasant Road and Veterans Memorial Parkway. 

Officers attended. Fire and paramedics were on scene. Occupants of the three vehicles involved in the collision received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. 

In speaking with the driver of one vehicle, officers observed signs of impairment and a demand for an approved screening device was issued. The accused performed the test and registered a fail.

The accused was then arrested for Operation While Impaired- Blood Alcohol Concentration level.
 
Samples of breath were provided as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of three times the legal limit.

As a result, a 37-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration level

Additionally, the driver’s license of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.


 
Type:                 Theft / Fraud
Incident:          22-33921
Location:         Colborne Street

On Sunday, August 21, 2022, at approximately 12:15 p.m., the Brantford police received a report that a woman’s purse had allegedly been stolen and fraudulent charges were made using the victim’s credit and debit cards.

Police investigation, along with assistance from the victim, led to the location of the accused at her residence where she was then arrested.

As a result, a 32-year-old woman from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Theft Under $5,000
  • Fraud Under $5,000 x3
  • Possession and Use Credit Card x3

Incident:          22-33838
Location:         West Street and Charing Cross Street
 
On Saturday, August 20, 2022, at approximately 9:45 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of West Street at Charing Cross, in regard to a motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver.

It was reported that a vehicle had collided with several other vehicles parked on the roadway. The driver of the vehicle was reported to be impaired.

Officers attended, and speaking with the driver, observed signs of impairment. 

The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of three times the legal limit.

As a result, a 38-year-old man from Hamilton stands charged with the following:
  • Operation while Impaired- Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Operation while Impaired- blood alcohol concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Careless Driving, contrary to the Ontario Highway Traffic Act 

Additionally, the accused’s driver’s licence was suspended, and the subject vehicle impounded.
 


Type:                 Impaired - Drug
Incident:          22-33805
Location:         Fairview Drive and West Street

On Saturday, August 20, 2022, at approximately 4:10 P.M., the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen to report a possible impaired driver.

A report was received to advise that, a woman was believed to be unconscious in her vehicle in a parking lot located at West Street and Fairview Drive. 

Police arrived on scene and located the vehicle. The accused, who was the sole occupant of the vehicle, was observed in the driver's seat.

Speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. The accused was placed under arrest for impaired operation and given the demand for a drug recognition evaluation.

A drug recognition expert evaluation was performed. The evaluating officer formed the opinion that the subject's ability to operate a conveyance was impaired by drugs. 

As a result, a 36-year-old female from Hamilton stands charged with Operation while Impaired (drug), contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded. 



Type:                 Robbery
Incident:          22-33707
Location:         Lynden Road     

Officers with the Brantford Police Service continue to investigate an armed robbery that occurred at a Lynden Road Convenience store on Friday, August 19, 2022, at approximately 10:00 p.m.

An armed man entered the store and approached the employee, displaying a firearm and demanding money.

After receiving an undisclosed amount of cash, the man left the store.
No physical injuries were sustained by the victim during the incident.

Officers were called and attended the scene. A K9 track was initiated in an attempt to locate the suspect.

The suspect remains at large and is described as follows:

Male, Black, approximately 5' 5" tall, wearing a black hooded track suit, gloves, ball cap and a black face mask
