CRIME BRIEF: February 10, 2022

On Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a concerned citizen contacted the Brantford Police Service to report a possible impaired driver in the area of Murray Street and Elgin Street.

A vehicle was reported to have driven off the road and was stuck in a snowbank.

Officers attended the scene, located the vehicle and the driver.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.

The accused was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were nearly three times the legal limit.

Additionally, the accused could not provide a valid permit for his vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following offences:
  • 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Operation While Impaired contrary to the Criminal Code  
  • Fail to Surrender Permit for Motor Vehicle contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
 
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:          Farringford Drive

On Tuesday, February 8, 2022, at approximately 8:20 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Farringford Drive and Shalfleet Boulevard in regards to a report of a suspicious vehicle.
 
Officers arrived and located the vehicle stopped in the intersection.
 
Police approached the vehicle and observed the accused, unconscious in the driver's seat, with the vehicle running. The accused was the lone occupant of the vehicle.
 
After several attempts, officers were able to awaken the man. Upon speaking with the accused, signs of impairment were observed.
 
The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug and read the demand to accompany police for the purpose of participating in sobriety tests conducted by a Drug Recognition Expert. The tests indicated that the accused was impaired.
 
As a result, a 21-year-old man from Fenlon Falls stands charged with Operation while Impaired (drug) - contrary to the Criminal Code.

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
