CRIME BRIEF: February 4, 2022

Location:           Wayne Gretzky Parkway

On Tuesday, February 1, 2022, at approximately 7:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen to advise of a possible impaired driver travelling on Highway 403.

Officers located the vehicle at the intersection of Wayne Gretzky Parkway and Henry Street and conducted a traffic stop.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. An approved roadside screening device was administered which resulted in a reading of "FAIL". 

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were approximately three times the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 57-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
•  Over 80
•  Operation while impaired 

Additionally, the accused was served a 90-day administrative drivers licence suspension and his motor vehicle was impounded for seven days as part of the administrative penalties under the Highway Traffic Act.

Location:           Brant Avenue

On Monday, January 31, 2022, at approximately 9:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a single motor vehicle collision on Brant Avenue. A vehicle had left the roadway and collided with a pole.

Officers arrived on scene and, in speaking with the driver, observed signs of impairment. 

The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug.
 
The accused was submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert Examination, as required by law, and was found to be impaired.

As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with Operation while Impaired by Drug contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, a license suspension was issued and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:           Dalhousie Street

On January 31, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call from a concerned citizen to advise of a possible impaired driver travelling on Dalhousie Street.

Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle parked on Dalhousie Street. 

When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. 
 
The accused was arrested for Operation while Impaired by Drug. 
 
The accused was submitted to a Drug Recognition Expert Examination, as required by law, and was found to be impaired.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old male from London, stands charged with Operation while Impaired by Drug contrary to the Criminal Code. 
 
Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:           Arthur Street

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a hit-and-run after two parked vehicles were struck on Arthur Street.

Officers attended and through investigation located the accused nearby. In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. 

The accused was placed under arrest for failure to remain at the scene of an accident and was transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples provided were twice the legal limit.

As a result, the accused, a 33-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with: 
•  Operation while Impaired – Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code
•  Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code
•  Fail to Remain, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
•  Novice Driver – B.A.C above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:           King Street

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at approximately 5:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a possible impaired driver.

The accused was located at King Street and Dalhousie Street. Officers observed the driver fail to signal a turn and a traffic stop was conducted.

In speaking with officers, signs of impairment were observed. A roadside screening demand was issued, which resulted in a "Fail”.

The driver was placed under arrest and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, the accused, a 72-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with: 
•  Operation while Impaired - blood alcohol concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
•  Fail to signal for turn, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:           King George Road

On Saturday, January 29, 2022, at approximately 12:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of King George Road and Varadi Avenue after receiving a report from a concerned citizen of a possible impaired driver.

Officers located the vehicle on Lynden Road near Wayne Gretzky Parkway, where the vehicle was observed to be driving erratically.

A traffic stop was initiated and in speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment.

The accused provided a breath sample to the roadside screening device which resulted in a fail. As a result, the accused was arrested and charged for Impaired Operation of a Conveyance and 80 plus blood alcohol and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, the accused, a 35-year-old male from Paris, stands charged with: 
•  Impaired Operation of a Conveyance, contrary to the Criminal Code 
•  80 plus Blood Alcohol, contrary to the Criminal Code

Additionally, a license suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.
