Crime Brief - July 16, 2019

Incident: 19- 26575
Location: Colborne Street
Incident: On Sunday July 14, 2019 just after 1:00 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a vehicle traveling the wrong way down Colborne Street approaching Queen Street. Officers stopped the vehicle and spoke to the male driver. As Officers spoke to the driver they observed signs of impairment. The driver was arrested and transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over two times the limit. As a result of the investigation a 27 year old Burford male was charged with Operation While Impaired and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location: King George Road
Incident: On Friday July 12, 2019 just after 1:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a call about a possible impaired driver on King George Road. A male had been at a business on King George Road, he had left on foot but returned a short time later and was seen driving away. Community Patrol Officers observed the vehicle driving on King George Road and performed a traffic stop. While speaking to the driver Officers observed signs of impairment. The driver was issued a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over the legal limit. A 53 year old Brantford male is charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location: Alfred Street
Incident: On Thursday July 11, 2019 just after 11:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call at a residence on Alfred Street. A group of people had been at the residence when a verbal argument broke out. One of the people involved in the argument punched one of the others involved in the face. He then pulled out a set of brass knuckles and threatened to physically harm the victim. Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the parties involved. The accused was arrested without incident. The victim was not injured as a result of the incident. As a result of the investigation a 44 year old Brantford male has been charged with Assault, Possession of Weapons Dangerous and Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm under the Criminal Code.

Location: Phelps Road
Incident: On Friday July 12, 2019 just after 2:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a single vehicle collision on Phelps Road. A vehicle had been travelling down Phelps Road when it left the roadway, flipped over and came to rest in the ditch. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle however the driver was not present. While investigating the collision the driver contacted police and advised that he had been in an accident after trying to avoid an animal. Officers spoke to the driver who showed signs of impairment and was given a demand for a roadside screening device. The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested. The accused was transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law. The accused samples were over the legal limit. A 25 year old Brantford male has been charged with 80 Plus and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code. His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location: Alfred Street
Incident: On Friday July 12, 2019 just after 9:00 a.m. Branford Police Service received a call about a female driver passed out at the steering wheel of her vehicle which was parked blocking the sidewalk at an address on Alfred Street. Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and the female driver. The vehicle was still running and was blocking the sidewalk. Officers were able to successfully turn the vehicle off and spoke to the female driver. While dealing with the driver Officers observed signs of impairment and the driver was given a standard field sobriety test. As a result of the test the driver was arrested and given a demand for a Drug Evaluation Test and transported to the Brantford Police Service. As a result of the Drug Evaluation the accused was charged. While dealing with the accused she was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected crack cocaine. As a result of the investigation a 43 year old Brantford woman is charged with Impaired Operation – Drug and Breach of Undertaking Under the Criminal Code. She is also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance (Crack Cocaine) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. Her licence was suspended for 90 days and her vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
