CRIME BRIEF: July 31, 2021

Type:                 Impaired Operation - Drug
Incident:           21-27601
Location:          West St and Morton Ave

On Wednesday, July 21, 2021, at approximately 10:00 p.m., patrol officers with Brantford Police Service observed a single motor vehicle collision in the area of West Street and Morton Ave. 

Members of Brantford Fire attended the scene to assist and extract the male driver from the vehicle. 

In speaking with the driver, signs of intoxication were observed by officers, and the male was subsequently arrested for Operation While Impaired (Drugs).

Brant County Ambulance also attended to provide emergency medical assistance and transported the male to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Search incident to arrest located approximately 1.3 grams of suspected Methamphetamine and approximately 0.9 grams of suspected Fentanyl.

As a result, a 34-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation while Impaired 
  • Possession of a Controlled Substance x 2

Location:          Park Ave and East Ave
 
On Thursday, July 22, 2021 at approximately 2:50 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Park Avenue and East Avenue in regards to a disturbance. 
Information was received to indicate that a physical altercation occurred between three individuals. The accused: a 26-year-old male and a 34-year-old female, assaulted a 35-year-old male victim, striking him with a shovel and a skateboard.

Officers attended the scene and located the victim, who received emergency medical treatment for a head injury before being transported to hospital by ambulance.

Investigation revealed the identity of the two accused parties, who had since fled the area. 

Officers located the accused male nearby who was found to be in violation of a valid probation order and peace bond. The accused male was arrested on Thursday, July 22, 2021.

On Monday, July 26, 2021, information was received to advise of the accused female’s location. As a result, the accused female was arrested that day near Aberdeen Street and Ontario Street. 
 
As a result of the incident, the accused parties stand charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
 
A 34-year-old female of Brantford:
  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Cause Disturbance
  • Weapons Dangerous
 
And a 26-year-old male of Brantford stands charged with:
  • Assault with a Weapon 
  • Assault Causing Bodily Harm
  • Cause Disturbance
  • Weapons Dangerous 
  • Disobey court order
  • Breach Probation
 
Both parties were held for bail.

Location:          Park Road North and Cobden Court
 
On Friday, July 23, 2021 at approximately 5:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were conducting road safety enforcement on Park Road North near Brier Park Road.
 
Officers observed a motor vehicle travelling northbound from Fairview Drive at an excessive rate of speed.
 
Utilizing radar, officers were able to verify the vehicle was travelling at a rate of speed of 118 km/hr in the posted 50 km/hr zone. 
 
A traffic stop was performed and the driver, a 22-year old female from Brantford, was charged with Stunt Driving (drive motor vehicle-perform stunt by speeding 50 or more kilometres per hour) and Speeding 118 km/h in a posted 50 km/hr zone, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act. 
 
As per the new penalties under the Highway Traffic Act, the motor vehicle was impounded for 14 days and drivers licence suspended for seven days as part of the administrative penalty.

Location:          Colborne Street and Dalhousie Street
 
On Saturday, July 24, 2021 at approximately 2:55 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a motor vehicle travelling southbound on Stanley Street. The motor vehicle was observed striking the sidewalk on Stanley Street before turning eastbound onto Colborne Street. 
 
Police conducted a traffic stop in the area of Colborne Street and Dalhousie Street. When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication and requested the driver provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples obtained were in excess of the legal limit.
 
A search incident to arrest of the motor vehicle revealed an open container of liquor was determined to be within reach of the driver, and brass knuckles were located.

As a result of this Police investigation a 19-year-old male from Ohsweken stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • 80 Plus
  • Possession of Prohibited Weapon

Location:          Dalhousie Street
 
On Saturday, July 24, 2021 at approximately 5:42 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were conducting foot patrol in the area of Dalhousie Street and King Street when a male was observed attempting to utilize illegal drugs in view of the officer.
 
Officers placed the male under arrest for possession of a controlled substance (Fentanyl). The accused attempted to flee on foot to evade arrest. The accused was arrested on Queen Street and taken into custody.  
 
A search incident to arrest located approximately 2.7 grams of (suspected) fentanyl in possession of the accused (approximate street value $675). 
 
It was revealed that the accused provided a false name to police and was the subject of two outstanding bench warrants.  
 
As a result of this incident a 22-year-old male of Brantford was charged with: 
  • Possession of a controlled substance (fentanyl) contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
  • Obstruct police officer contrary to the Criminal Code 
 
The accused was held for bail.

Incident:           21-28533
Location:          Anderson Court
 
On Wednesday, July 28, 2021, a report was received by the Brantford Police Service to advise that sometime between 7:00 p.m., Wednesday, July 14, 2021 and 5 a.m., Thursday, July 15, 2021, 15 unoccupied residences and one closed residence on Anderson Road had been broken into.

The rear basement windows were broken to gain entry in order to remove copper piping from the homes.  The total damage / value of stolen goods is estimated at approximately $14,400.

Location:          Market Street South
 
On Saturday, July 31 2021, 2:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle being operated in a careless manner in the area of Market Street South and Grey Street.
 
The vehicle was observed spinning its tires, causing the vehicle to drift into oncoming traffic while travelling westbound on Grey Street.
 
A traffic stop was conducted. When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication and requested the driver provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples obtained were in excess of the legal limit.

Information received indicated that the driver was bound by the restriction of a G2 licence, which requires that a zero blood alcohol concentration be maintained while operating a motor vehicle. When asked, the driver was unable to provide his Driver’s Licence.

An open container of liquor was also determined to be within reach of the driver. 
 
As a result, a 24-year-old male of Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation while Impaired- contrary to the Criminal Code
  • Novice Driver BAC above 0 Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Careless Driving Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
  • Fail to Surrender Drivers Licence Contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
  • Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor Contrary to the Liquor Licence Act

Location:          Colborne Street and Garden Avenue
 
On Saturday, July 31, 2021 at approximately 5:43 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a motor vehicle travelling east on Colborne Street near Garden Ave. The vehicle was being operated in an erratic manner.

A traffic stop was conducted. When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of intoxication and requested the driver provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples obtained were in excess of the legal limit.

As a result, a 26-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with: 
  • One count of 80 Plus contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • One count of Amber Light - Fail to Stop contrary to the Highway Traffic Act

The accused’s vehicle was taken to impound.
