CRIME BRIEF: March 22, 2022

Location:             Grey Street

On Monday, March 21, 2022, at approximately 8:20 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of a robbery at a retail store located on Grey Street. 

A man was reported to have entered the store and was allegedly placing items in his pockets. A staff member approached the accused, who then brandished a knife and threatened the employee.

Officers attended the scene and, as a result of this investigation, the accused, Devon John WILSON, a 25-year-old man from Brantford, is charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
Robbery 
Uttering Threats 

The accused was held for bail. 
 


Type:                   Vehicle Theft (Motorcycle)
Incident:             22-10485
Location:             Wellington Street

On Saturday, March 19, 2022, at approximately 12:00 noon, officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a call regarding a motorcycle theft from a parking garage located on Wellington Street.

Three men allegedly entered the parking garage, located, and stole the motorcycle.
Officers located the motorcycle in the possession of the three accused men at a nearby residence.

As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old man, a 29-year-old man and a 39-year-old man, all from Brantford, each stand charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
Theft of Motor Vehicle 
Possession of stolen property under $5,000 
 


Type:                   Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:             22-10446
Location:             King George Road

On Saturday, March 19, 2022, at approximately 2:50 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling northbound on King George Road at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was then observed to turn onto Powerline Road before turning into a driveway. 

Officers conducted a traffic stop. Signs of impairment were observed when speaking with the driver. 

A roadside Approved Screening Device was administered, which the accused failed. The accused was then arrested and transported to provide samples of his breath as required by law.

Both samples were in excess of the legal limit.

As a result, a 37-year-old man from Kitchener, stands charged with Operation over 80mg, contrary to the Criminal Code. 

Additionally, the accused’s license was suspended, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:             Darling Street

On Friday, March 18, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend an altercation involving two women at a Darling Street location.

During the altercation, the accused allegedly struck the victim, a 30-year-old female, in the head with a brick. The victim received minor injuries. 

As a result of the investigation, the accused, Tarese Maran FOLLAND, a 38-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the Assault with a weapon, contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:             Dalhousie Street and Alfred Street

On Friday, March 18, 2022, at approximately 2:00 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling westbound on Dalhousie Street toward Alfred Street at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle was observed to proceed through a red light, turning left onto Clarence Street, when officers initiated a traffic stop.

In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment along with an open can of liquor in the cupholder of the vehicle. The driver was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples of breath were over twice the legal limit.

Additionally, the driver failed to provide valid proof of insurance for the vehicle.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with the following: 
Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code 
Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway - No Insurance, contrary to the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act 
Novice Driver - B.A.C. Above Zero, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
Driving Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor, contrary to the Liquor Licence and Control Act 
Several Highway Traffic Act violations.

The accused’s license was suspended, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:             East Avenue

On Tuesday, March 15, 2022, at approximately 1:45 p.m., Brantford Police were dispatched to a location on East Avenue regarding a disturbance.

It was reported that a woman allegedly threatened two other women with a hammer for an unknown reason.

The victims did not receive any physical injuries.

Further investigation revealed that the accused was wanted by police for an unrelated warrant. 

The accused was placed into custody without incident.
 
As a result of this investigation, Jennifer Lee JONES, a 51-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with: 
Two (2) counts of Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose contrary the Criminal Code 

The accused was held for bail.
