CRIME BRIEF: May 24, 2022

Type:                  Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:           22-19904
Location:          Grand River Avenue

On Monday, May 23, 2022, at approximately 11:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a serious motor vehicle collision in the area of Grand River Avenue.

Investigation revealed that a single motor vehicle was travelling at an excessive rate of speed along Grand River Avenue when the vehicle left the roadway, striking a residence.  The collision resulted in significant damage to both the residence and vehicle.

The vehicle came to rest on its passenger side in the roadway.

Emergency services attended and extricated both the male driver and a male passenger.
Officers on scene observed signs of impairment when speaking with the accused. 

Both the driver and the passenger were transported to hospital for medical treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

No injuries were reported from within the residence.

As a result of the incident, a 45-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
Impaired Operation Causing Bodily Harm 
Dangerous Operation Causing Bodily Harm 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 


Type:                  Theft / Drug Charges
Incident:           22-19751
Location:          King George Road

On Sunday, May 22, 2022, at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a report related to a shoplifting offence which had occurred at a retail location near Powerline Road and King George Road.

It was reported that a man and a woman entered the store and allegedly proceeded to steal a duffle bag, placing various other items inside the bag. The accused parties then left the store, paying only for some of the items. Loss prevention officers who observed the offence, contacted police.

Police attended and located the accused male and female occupying a van in the parking lot. 

In speaking with the accused, it was found that the accused male provided a false identity to officers and was subsequently arrested for obstructing a peace officer.

Additional information received indicated an endorsed warrant existed for his arrest. The accused was also found to be operating a motor vehicle without a valid licence.

When speaking with the co-accused, it was determined that an endorsed warrant for her arrest existed as well. 

Search incident to arrest located the stolen items, several pieces of identification not belonging to the accused, drug paraphernalia as well as several small baggies with a variety of drugs portioned out containing a total of the following:
Approximately 3.6 grams of suspected Fentanyl
Approximately 1.9 grams of suspected Crack Cocaine
Approximately 4.2 grams of suspected Crystal Methamphetamine
A quantity of pills; suspected Dilaudid

The stolen items were recovered, and the drugs seized.

As a result, a 40-year-old male from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
Theft Under $5000
Possession of Identity Document 
Obstruct Peace Officer 

Additionally, the co-accused, a 39-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following violations:
Theft Under $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code  
5 counts of Possession of Schedule I, and II contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Incident:           22-19582
Location:          West Street

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 7:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to an assault related call for service which had occurred at a property located on West Street near Sycamore Street.

It was reported that a man was allegedly residing within an abandoned shed located near the victim’s residence. After hearing noise from within the shed, the victim allegedly confronted the accused male and a verbal argument escalated.

The accused is then reported to have assaulted the 37-year-old male victim, striking him with a metal construction tool. The victim sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Information received indicates that the accused is currently in violation of a valid release order.

As a result of this investigation, a 37-year-old male from Brantford (no fixed address), stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
Assault with a Weapon
Possession of Weapons Dangerous 
Fail to Comply with Judicial Release- Release Order

 


Type:                  Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:           22-19457
Location:          King George Road

On Saturday, May 21, 2022, at approximately 9:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver from an alert employee of a fast-food restaurant located on King George Road.

Officers arrived on scene and located the accused in the driver's seat of her running motor vehicle. When officers approached the vehicle, they observed a can of beer in the hand of the accused. Upon speaking with the female, officers observed signs of impairment.

The accused was subsequently arrested for Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs. The accused was transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law.

The accused refused to comply with the request and as a result of the refusal, a 38-year-old female from Oshawa stands charged with the following: 
Failure or refusal to comply with demand contrary to the Criminal Code 
Operation while impaired - alcohol or drugs contrary to the Criminal Code 
Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available contrary to the Liquor Licence Control Act of Ontario 
Novice driver - B.A.C. above zero contrary to the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

 


Type:                  Property Damage
Incident:           22-1170
Location:          Fifth Avenue and Erie Avenue

On Thursday, May 19, 2022, at approximately 2:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a report of a male who had damaged a telephone utility box at a location near Fifth Avenue and Erie Avenue.


Officers attended the scene and located the accused who was in possession of a number of wires that appeared to have been removed from the telephone utility box.

The damage to the utility box resulted in significant disruption to the phone service of a nearby apartment building.

Information received indicated the accused was in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result, a 52-year-old man from Brantford (no fixed address) stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
Mischief
Breach of Probation
