CRIME BRIEF: November 24, 2021

Type:                Impaired - Alcohol

Location:        Enfield Crescent

On Saturday, November 20, 2021, at approximately 2:50 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a possible impaired driver who was observed in a parking lot located on Brantwood Park Road. 

A concerned citizen observed a female, who was believed to be in an intoxicated state, arrive at the parking lot by taxi and proceeded to then enter and operate a motor vehicle. The employee attempted to stop the female from driving by advising a call would be made to report the incident to the police. 

The citizen obtained the licence plate number and description of the vehicle and accused to the police.

Utilizing this information, police were able to locate the accused and vehicle at a nearby residence. Upon arrival, the accused was found in the driver’s seat of the vehicle. Officers observed signs of intoxication.

The accused was arrested for Impaired Operation and was transported to provide samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples were in excess of twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 52-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
Impaired Operation 
80 Plus 

Additionally, a licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:        Wayne Gretzky Parkway 

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at approximately 9:30 p.m., community patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling erratically, proceeding southbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway near Morton Ave. 

After the officers observed the vehicle accelerating at a high rate of speed eastbound on Henry Street, a traffic stop was conducted.

Information was received to advise that the driver was a suspended driver. The accused was arrested for driving while under suspension.

Speaking with the driver of the vehicle, officers observed signs of impairment.

An approved screening device demand was read to the accused however, the accused refused to provide a breath sample to the police as is required by law.
 
While in the rear of the police cruiser, the accused spit at the arresting officer,
striking the officer on the chest.

As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old male from Hamilton stands charged with the following: 
Driving while drivers licence suspended contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 
Refusal to comply with a demand contrary to the Criminal Code, and  
Assault Peace Officer contrary to the Criminal Code.

Additionally, a licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Location:         Market Street

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a call regarding a break and enter in progress at an office building located on Market Street.

The building was vacant at the time of the incident. 

Officers attended the scene and observed a man exiting the building from the second story. The man was placed under arrest. 

Information was received to indicate the accused was in violation of a valid Probation Order.

As a result, Addris Osiel HERNANDEZ, a 29-year-old male from Brantford (No Fixed Address), stands charged with Break and Enter with Intent as well as Breach of Probation contrary to the Criminal Code.

Location:          Dalhousie Street 

On Thursday, November 18, 2021, at approximately 5:50 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend the area of Dalhousie Street/Clarence Street in regards to a report of a male throwing wood at a motor vehicle. 

Through investigation, it was revealed that the victim was travelling westbound on Dalhousie in his motor vehicle when the accused threw a piece of wood at his motor vehicle, causing minor damage.

Information was received to indicate the accused was in violation of a valid Probation Order.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old male of Brantford stands with the following Criminal Code offences: 
Mischief Under $5000 
Breach of Probation 


 

Type:                  Assault
Incident:          21-44847
Location:          Woodlawn Avenue

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at approximately 5:20 a.m., Brantford Police Service received a 911 call to report a disturbance occurring at a residence located on Woodlawn Avenue.

Officers arrived on scene at approximately 5:25 a.m. and determined an altercation had occurred involving two men, (ages 23 and 25), where the victim was allegedly struck in the head with a firearm. The victim received minor injuries from the altercation that did not require medical attention. 

The firearm, allegedly used in the assault, was not located by police on initial investigation. In order to locate the outstanding firearm, a search warrant was applied for and granted.

On Tuesday, November 16, 2021, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service executed a search warrant at the residence and located a replica firearm that was allegedly used by the accused in the assault. 

Information received indicated that the accused was in violation of a valid undertaking and two outstanding warrants.

As a result of this investigation, a 23-year-old male stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
Assault with a weapon 
Failure to comply 
Using an Imitation Firearm in Commission of Offence
