CRIME BRIEF: September 26, 2022

Incident:      22-39554
Location:     Brantwood Park Road

On Monday, September 26, 2022, at approximately 12:15 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise of a possible impaired driver in the area of Brantwood Park Road. 

Officers attended the area, located the suspect vehicle, and conducted a traffic stop to determine sobriety of the driver.

Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and the accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, a 20-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences: 
 Operation While Impaired - Alcohol and Drugs 
 80 Plus 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Location:     King George Road

On Saturday, September 24, 2022, at approximately 8:45 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a call to advise of a possible impaired driver at a King George Road Restaurant.

Officers attended and located the accused within his vehicle in the restaurant’s parking lot.

In speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. 

The accused provided a breath sample into the approved roadside screening device which resulted in a fail.
 
The accused was then transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples provided were nearly three times the legal limit. 

As a result, a 63-year-old man from Lethbridge, Alberta, stands charged with: 
 Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Location:     Wellington Street

On Sunday, September 25, 2022, at approximately 9:30 P.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a report of a motor vehicle collision at a location on Wellington Street where a male driver was reported to have struck a parked motor vehicle.

Officers attended, located the accused driver, and observed signs of impairment.

The accused registered a Fail on an Alcohol Roadside Approved Screening device.
 
Police formed reasonable and probable grounds that the accused was impaired by alcohol. 

As a result, the accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples of breath were nearly four times the legal limit.

As a result, a 68-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
 Operation while Impaired-Alcohol 
 Operation while Impaired-Blood Alcohol Concentration 

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident:      22-38936
Location:     Grand River Avenue

On Thursday, September 22, 2022, at approximately 8:15 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a call regarding a possible impaired driver in the area of Grand River Avenue.

Officers attended and located the subject male occupying the driver’s seat of a motor vehicle. The accused appeared to be unconscious.

Officers were able to wake the man and observed signs of impairment. The accused was subsequently arrested for impaired operation by drug. 
The accused was transported in order to submit to a drug recognition expert for further testing. 

The results of the testing determined that the accused was believed to be impaired by drugs.

As a result of the investigation, a 44-year-old man from Simcoe stands charged with: 
 Operation While Impaired - Alcohol & Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 


Type:              Break and Enter
Incident:      22-38919
Location:     Tutela Heights Road

On Thursday September 22, 2022, at approximately 1:45 A.M., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a location on Tutela Heights Road after receiving an alarm call.

Investigation revealed that a man had been observed entering the building thru a window, and after triggered the alarm, vacated the property. The accused was located seated on the front porch of the building.

Further investigation determined that the accused was in violation of a valid Probation Order.

As a result of this investigation, a 36-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  Break and Enter with Intent 
•   Breach Probation

Incident:      22-38836
Location:     Elgin Street

On Wednesday September 21, 2022, at approximately 1:30 P.M., a man attended the Brantford Police Service station located at Elgin Street to report a motor vehicle collision.

While speaking with the accused, officers observed signs of impairment. 

The accused was read the Approved Screening Device demand, which he registered a fail. Samples of breath were then provided. Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result, a 65-year-old man from Caledonia, stands charged with 80 plus contrary to the Criminal Code.

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
