CRIME BRIEF: September 30, 2021

Type:                   Dangerous Operation - Vehicle
Incident:            21-36507
Location:           Erie Avenue 

On Saturday, September 18, 2021 at approximately 2:45 a.m., members of the Brantford Police Service responded to a disturbance at a residence located at Erie Avenue near Salisbury Avenue. 
Officers arrived on scene and determined that a large disturbance had occurred involving multiple people. After the disturbance, one of the men was walking at the side of the roadway on Erie Avenue when he was reported to have been struck by a vehicle. The vehicle was driven by a man who had previously been at the same residence.  
 
The victim, a 34-year-old male, declined treatment from Emergency Medical Services. 
 
Investigation revealed that, at the time of the incident, the accused was operating the motor vehicle with a suspended licence.
 
As a result of the investigation, Richard Wayne Nathaniel MOREAU, 43 of Brantford, stands charged with the following offences: 
  • Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code and 
  • Driving While Under Suspension contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
 

 


Type:                Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:         21-37063
Location:       St. Paul Avenue at King George Road
 
On Tuesday, September 21, 2021 at approximately 9:00 p.m., Brantford Police Service officers were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision in the area of St Paul Avenue and King George Road.
 
Officers arrived on scene and when speaking with the accused, observed signs of intoxication. A roadside screening device was administered, resulting in a fail.
 
The accused was arrested for impaired operation, and transported to provide suitable samples of his breath as required by law. Both samples provided were in excess of the legal limit.
 
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Impaired Operation - Alcohol 
  • 80 Plus 
 
Additionally, a licence suspension was issued and the vehicle impounded as per law.



Type:                   Disturbance 
Incident:            21-37105
Location:           Brunswick Street 
 
On Wednesday, September 22, 2021, at approximately 8:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Brunswick Street residence for a report of a male with a gun.
 
Officers arrived on scene where a male was alleged to have created a disturbance outside the residence where he broke several windows and threatened a resident with what was later determined to be a replica pellet gun.
 
Officers located the accused male and replica pellet gun in the rear yard of the residence.  
 
Information was received to advise that the accused is in violation of a valid judicial release order. 
 
As a result of this investigation Ian Thomas ERKSINE, 34 of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Mischief Under $5000 
  • Assault with a Weapon 
  • Utter Threats to Person 
  • Fail to Comply with Judicial Release Order
 
The accused was held for bail. 


 

Type:               Fraud
Incident:        21-37446
Location:       Fairview Drive and West Street 
 
On Friday, September 24, 2021 at approximately 4:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a report of fraud at a financial institution located at Fairview Drive and West Street.
 
A female was reported to have entered the financial institution and attempted to open a bank account with forged identity documents. The employee of the financial institution had observed and identified the documents as fraudulent and contacted police.
 

As a result, An Camly VU, 20, of Montreal, was placed under arrest and stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Possession of a forged document with intent x 2
  • Attempt to use a forged document x 2
  • Possession of an identity document x 2, and 
  • Fraud 


 

Type:                   Assault
Incident:           21-37503
Location:           Market Street near Dalhousie Street 
 
On Saturday, September 25, 2021 at approximately 2:00 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Services responded to an assault in the area of Market Street and Dalhousie Street.
 
It was reported that a man approached two male victims (ages 20 and 21) and engaged in a verbal argument. 
 
The verbal argument escalated to a physical confrontation. During the physical confrontation, the accused is alleged to have swung a knife at the victims. Two male victims sustained minor injuries and were transported to hospital for treatment. 

 
Information was received to advise that the accused was in violation of a valid probation order at the time of the incident.
 
As a result, Austin Darrel ANDERSON, 27 of Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Assault Cause Bodily Harm 
  • Possession of a Weapon for a Dangerous Purpose 
  • Breach of Probation 


 

Type:                  Break and Enter
Incident:           21-37653
Location:          West Street
 
On Sunday, September 26, 2021, at approximately 4:45 a.m., officers responded to an active break and enter call at a business located on West Street at Farringford Drive.
 
Officers arrived on scene, where the rear door of the business was found open and three individuals were observed inside. 
 
The individuals were attempting to steal property and had caused damage to the wall that separated this business from another unit. Two of the suspects were observed with crowbars in their possession.
 
All three suspects were taken into custody without incident and face the following Criminal Code violations:
 
Nicholas GAETA, 31, of Norwich stands charged with:
  • Break, Enter a Place x 2 
  • Possession of Break in Instruments 

Steven PIRES, 39, of Brantford stands charged with: 
  • Break, Enter a Place x 2 
  • Possession of Break in Instruments 

Kyle Joseph Ulysse ELWARD, 26, of Paris stands charged with: 
  • Break, Enter a Place x 2 
  • Possession of Break in Instruments
