On the morning of July 21, 2017 the accused set up a yard sale and was selling a variety of items including tools and sporting equipment. A Detective from the Street Crimes Unit attended the yard sale and observed numerous items for sale which were believed to have been reported stolen to the Brantford Police Service. Investigation revealed that several high end tools being sold at the yard sale were confirmed to have been reported stolen in May 2017 from a motor vehicle which had been parked on Erie Avenue. The accused was arrested for possession of stolen property. The owner of the tools was contacted and attended the BPS to recover his property.
A variety of baseball equipment was also seized from the yard sale. Police are attempting to identify the owners of the baseball equipment and encourage the public that if they have been the victim of stolen baseball equipment to contact the police and report those items as stolen.
The Street Crimes Unit has searched incidents from citizens reporting stolen baseball equipment however have been unable to locate the rightful owners of the seized items.
Brandon Joseph LEWIS, a 38 year old Brantford man has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property, Breach of Recognizance and Breach of Probation. Lewis was held for a bail hearing.
