New information leads investigators to upgrade charges to manslaughter in young child’s death

Investigators with the Brantford Police Service have now upgraded the initial charge of Criminal Negligence Causing Death to the charge of Manslaughter for two Brantford residents. 

On February 12, 2021, the Brantford Police Services Major Crime Unit launched an investigation into the death of a young child which led to two relatives being charged with criminal negligence causing death. 

On November 10, 2021, as the result of new information and further investigation by police, these initial charges have now been upgraded to manslaughter. 

Investigators have been working with the Coroner's office and the Centre of Forensic Sciences to determine the cause of death.

Criminal Negligence Causing Death Charges Laid


On Friday, February 12, 2021 Brantford Police entered into an investigation relating to the death of a young child inside a city residence.  Due to the circumstances surrounding the death, members with the Brantford Police Service Major Crime Unit and Forensic Identification Services were called in to lead the investigation. 
 
Officers worked with the Coroner’s Office and Center of Forensic Sciences to assist in determining the cause of death.  As a result of the investigation, police have charged two relatives of the child with Criminal Negligence Causing Death.
