Incident #19-38990

On Monday October 14, 2019 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Officers from the Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit located a stolen motor vehicle parked on Drummond St.  Officers observed an individual approach the vehicle and attempted to affect an arrest.  As Officers attended to the vehicle the suspect was able to get inside the stolen vehicle and struck one of the police vehicles as it fled.  As the suspect fled he also struck one of the Officers who was involved in the arrest.  The Officer received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident.  The vehicle fled the area at a high rate of speed.  Police received a call shortly afterwards that a vehicle was on fire in a parking lot at a residential complex on Dunsdon Street.  The suspect was seen getting into another stolen vehicle and fled the area.  The suspect was known to police and was positively identified.

On Tuesday October 15, 2019 just before 12:00 p.m. Community Patrol Officers observed the suspect and another occupant operating another stolen vehicle on Colborne Street.  When the driver observed police he fled the area striking a vehicle parked on the roadway.  Officers searched the area and observed the stolen vehicle parked on Mary Street.  The one suspect was seen getting into another stolen vehicle, while the passenger fled the area in the current stolen vehicle.  Officers located the first stolen vehicle unoccupied in a residential complex parking lot on Lynnwood Drive.  A short time later the second stolen vehicle was located in a commercial parking lot on Lynden Road.  The vehicle was unoccupied at the time.  Officers spotted the two suspects in a taxi that was leaving the area.  Officers were able to safely stop the taxi and arrested the two accused without incident.  Investigation revealed the one accused who had been the driver of the stolen motor vehicle on both occasions, was currently a suspended driver and was also wanted regarding several other investigations.   Since October 8, 2019 the Brantford Police Service has been engaged in six investigations involving the two accused.   As a result of the six investigations accused #1 is facing sixty six Criminal Code Charges and accused #2 is facing eleven Criminal Code Charges.  The charges are relating to stolen motor vehicles, possession of stolen property and theft under (of gas).  Both accused were held in custody pending a bail hearing.
