Firearm Charges Issued After Bicycle Infraction

On Monday, November 30, 2020 at approximately 3:00 a.m., Brantford Police Service officers observed two individuals riding bicycles in the area of Bruce Street.  The individuals were operating the bicycles without lights, contravening the Highway Traffic Act.

During the traffic stop, it was determined that one of the individuals falsely identified himself to the officer. Upon further investigation, the officer was able to positively identify the individual and confirm that he was wanted on two outstanding warrants. The male was placed under arrest. 

During the arrest, the male was found to be in possession of a loaded firearm and ammunition.

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old male from Brantford is charged with No Lights S. 62(17) under the Highway Traffic Act in addition to the following Criminal Code charges:
  • Careless Storage
  • Weapons Dangerous
  • Carry Concealed Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Possession of Firearm knowing Unauthorized
  • Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
  • Tampering with Serial Number
  • Obstruct Police
  • Fail to Comply with Release Order
  The individual was held for bail.
