Crime Brief - January 28, 2021
Incident: 21-02499
Location: Queen Street
Investigation revealed that the suspect was bound by a recognizance to keep the peace.
As a result of the investigation, a 33-year-old-female from Brantford stands charged with the following under the Criminal Code:
- Common Assault
- Assault with a Weapon
- Weapons Dangerous
- Breach Peace Bond
Type: Impaired Driving - Alcohol
Incident: 21-02513
Location: Dorothy Street / Harriett Street
While in custody the demand for a breath sample was given, as required by law, however the accused refused.
As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old male from Brantford has been charged with the following offences:
- Impaired Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
- Dangerous Operation contrary to the Criminal Code
- Failure or Refusal to Comply contrary to the Criminal Code
- Fail to Render Assistance contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Fail to Remain contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
- Careless Driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Type: Stolen Vehicles
Incident: 21-02647
Location: Sinclair Blvd.
When the officers approached the vehicles, three males fled on foot and were subsequently apprehended by officers.
Investigation revealed the two vehicles had previously been reported stolen. Further investigation revealed one of the accused men was violating conditions of a valid Undertaking by Officer in Charge. A second accused male was found to be in violation of a valid Judge’s Release Order.
Stolen licence plates and a small amount of suspected heroin were located in the vehicles.
As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old male from Brampton is charged with the following:
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle – contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession Stolen Property (plates) – contrary to the Criminal Code
- Breach of Undertaking by Officer in Charge – Contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession Controlled Substance (suspected heroin) – contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act
Additionally, a 23-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following under the Criminal Code:
- Possession of a Stolen Vehicle
- Possession Stolen Property (plates)
- Fail to Comply Judges Order
Both of the accused were held for bail.
Type: Impaired Driving - Alcohol
Incident: 21-02771
Location: Garden Ave / 403 W
Officers conducted a traffic stop and, upon speaking with the driver, observed signs of intoxication. Open containers of alcohol were observed within the vehicle, accessible to the driver.
The accused was arrested and transported to provide a sample of breath as required by law. Samples provided by the accused were over the levels permissible by law.
As a result of the investigation, a 24-year-old male from Brantford was arrested for 80 Milligrams Plus under the Criminal Code.
As the accused was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended driver’s licence, his licence was seized. The vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Incident: 21-02897
Location: Marlene Avenue
Information was received that a male attended a neighbour apartment and, after a brief conflict, brandished a machete in a threatening manner towards a female resident. The female was not injured.
Officers attended the location and located the suspect male within his apartment. The suspect male fled from police however he was stopped by police. The suspect resisted when being placed under arrest.
The suspect male was found to be in possession of a machete.
Further investigation revealed that the accused was in violation of a valid Undertaking by Officer in Charge with the condition "not to possess any weapon”.
As a result of the investigation, a 34-year-old-male from Brantford stands charged with the following under the Criminal Code:
- Possession of weapons dangerous
- Uttering threats to person
- Failure to comply with undertaking
- Escape from lawful custody
- Resist arrest

Location: Colborne Street and Park Avenue
On Friday, January 8, 2021 at approximately 4:18 a.m., members of the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a convenience store located at Colborne Street and Park Avenue in regards to a report of a male having damaged a motor vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the suspect was bound by a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behavior.
As a result of the investigation, a 40-year-old male from Brantford has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:
- Mischief under $5000
- Breach of Probation Order

Location: Market Street
On Sunday, January 10, 2021 at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call from an employee at a restaurant located on Market Street to report an armed robbery.
As a result of the investigation, a 26-year-old male from Brantford was arrested and has been charged with the following offences under the Criminal Code:
- Robbery with a firearm
- Firearm – use while committing and offence
- Point firearm
- Disguise with intent
- Possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose
- Obstruct peace officer

On Wednesday, January 13, 2021, at approximately 3:45 a.m. officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Dufferin Ave in regards to a report of a male who was observed opening car doors of several motor vehicles within the area.

NYE Gathering Results in ROA Charge

At approximately 1:20 a.m. on January 1, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service received a report of an illegal social gathering involving attendees from more than one household. Officers attended, and have charged a 30-year-old female from Brantford, with Fail to Comply under the Reopening Ontario Act.
During the COVID-19 Pandemic, Brantford Police Service would like to remind the public that under the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act, 2020, businesses or organizations must ensure that masks or face coverings are worn by any person (including members of the public and workers) in the indoor area of the business or organization, with limited exceptions.
Under the COVID-19 Emergency Orders, gatherings of persons from outside the same household are not permitted. Each attendee / organizer can be fined in accordance with the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act.
Individuals violating the Reopening Ontario (A Flexible Response to COVID-19) Act are subject to a set fine of $880. Individuals planning or organizing gatherings with persons outside their immediate household are subject to a fine of $10,000.
Members of the public are reminded of the need to comply with COVID-19 safety measures including physical distancing, hand cleaning, and the proper wearing of facial / mouth coverings.
