CRIME BRIEF JANUARY 6, 2022
Type: Impaired
Incident: 22-00368
Location: Colborne Street and Rawdon Street
On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision in the area of Colborne Street and Rawdon Street.
While travelling eastbound on Colborne Street, approaching Rawdon Street, the vehicle struck a hydro pole. As a result of the collision, the driver was trapped inside the vehicle. Members of the Brantford Fire Department attended to extract the driver from the vehicle.
The driver was transported to hospital by ambulance for medical assessment.
Signs of impairment were observed. Investigation revealed that the accused was believed to be impaired by alcohol and was operating her vehicle while under the influence. The accused provided samples of her breath as required by law. Both samples were nearly three times the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old woman, from Brantford, stands charged with:
• Operations while Impaired – Alcohol
• Operation while Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration
Additionally, a licence suspension was issued, and the vehicle impounded as per law.

Incident: 22-00373; 21-49708
Location: Chatham Street
On Friday, December 21, 2021, at approximately 2:09 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed behaviour consistent with that of an impaired driver and conducted a traffic stop on Chatham Street near George Street for the purposes of conducting a sobriety check.
In speaking with the driver, officers observed suspicious behaviour and the driver attempted to roll up his window. The driver was then requested to exit the vehicle.
At this time, the accused started the engine of the motor vehicle and, in his attempt to flee from police, struck the police cruiser with his vehicle. The accused nearly struck officers as he fled the scene, travelling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Clarence Street. In the interest of public safety, a pursuit was not initiated.
As a result of the incident, Brayden Nathan FERRALL, 22, of Guelph, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
• Flight from Peace Officer
• Failure to Stop After Accident
• Dangerous Operation
• Obstruct Peace Officer
A warrant was sought for the arrest of the accused, who was arrested and held for bail on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at approximately 2:45 a.m.
Type: Mischief / Assault
Incident: 22-00296
Location: Colborne Street
On Monday, January 3, 2022, at approximately 12:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to an assault related call at a restaurant located on Colborne Street.
Information was received to report that a man entered the store without a COVID facemask and was refused service as per policy.
After being refused service, the accused jumped over the service counter in an effort to serve himself.
As an employee began to escort the accused from the store, he was physically assaulted by the accused.
The accused then caused damage to a light fixture and shelving unit within the store.
As a result of this incident a 25-year-old man from Brantford (No Fixed Address), stands charged with Assault and Mischief under the Criminal Code, was arrested, and held for bail.
Type: Flight from Peace Officer, Theft
Incident: 22-00086, 21-50051, 21-40143
Location: Veteran’s Memorial Parkway
On Thursday, December 23, 2021, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a suspicious vehicle without licence plates travelling westbound on Veterans Memorial Parkway. A male driver was the sole occupant of the vehicle.
The suspect vehicle matched the description of one utilized in several gas thefts in the City of Brantford.
Officers received information to identify the accused, who was determined to be a suspended driver, wanted for arrest by a two neighbouring police services.
Police attempted to initiate a traffic stop. The accused made no attempt to stop and fled from police at a high rate of speed. In the interest of public safety, the pursuit was discontinued.
As a result, a warrant was sought for the arrest of Steven William LUNGARO, 33, of Stoney Creek, who stands charged with the following:
• Flight from Peace Officer – contrary to the Criminal Code
• Dangerous Operation – contrary to the Criminal Code
• Driving while under Suspension – contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Additionally, investigation confirmed LUNGARO as the wanted individual in five gas thefts which occurred in Brantford during October and November 2021.
As a result of the investigation, the accused also stands charged with the following:
• Theft Under $5000 x 5 – contrary to the Criminal Code
On Saturday, January 1, 2021, at approximately 4:15 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed the suspect motor vehicle travelling on Shellard Lane towards Colborne Street.
A traffic stop was conducted. A female driver and a male passenger were the occupants of the vehicle.
Information received indicated that the male passenger was the wanted party from the above-mentioned incidents.
The accused male was arrested and held for bail.

Incident: 21-50985
Location: Queen Street
On Friday, December 31, 2021, officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a weapons related call for service in the area of Queen Street and Darling Street.
Investigation revealed that a man was engaged in a verbal altercation with an unknown victim. The accused man was then observed by a witness to brandish a knife towards the victim in a dangerous manner. No physical injuries were received by the victim.
Police attended the scene, located, and arrested the accused. Search incident to arrest found the accused in possession of a knife.
As a result of the investigation, Deodato FERREIRA, 63, of Brantford, stands charged with:
• Weapons Dangerous - contrary to the Criminal Code.
Type: Stolen Vehicle
Incident: 21-50781
Location: Wayne Gretzky Parkway
On Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at approximately 8:30 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a motor vehicle with a visibly altered license plate in the drive-thru of a restaurant located on Wayne Gretzky Parkway near Edmondson Drive.
Upon observing police, the vehicle abandoned its position in the drive-thru line up and proceeded to merge onto eastbound Highway 403. In the interest of public safety, the officers did not initiate in a pursuit. The vehicle exited the highway at Fairview Drive, where the driver lost control and crashed.
The driver and a female passenger, attempted to flee the scene on foot. Officers initiated a foot pursuit, the accused was located and subsequently placed under arrest. The K9 unit was called in to assist in locating the female passenger.
No physical injuries were sustained as a result of the collision.
Search incident to arrest located identification documents not belonging to the accused.
Information received indicated that the motor vehicle had previously been reported as stolen. Both licence plates on the vehicle had been manually altered.
The accused was found to be a prohibited driver and was in violation of a valid driving suspension.
As a result of this investigation, Dwain Edward CHASSE, 45, of Brantford, stands charged with the following:
• Obstruct peace officer contrary to the Criminal Code
• Possession of an identity document x 2 contrary to the Criminal Code
• Possession property over $5000 contrary to the Criminal Code
• Operation of a conveyance while prohibited x 4 contrary to the Criminal Code
• Careless driving contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
• Fail to remain Highway Traffic Act
• Alter plate Highway Traffic Act
The accused was held for bail.
Type: Vehicle Theft
Incident: 21-49998
Location: Dalhousie Street
On Thursday, December 23, 2021, at approximately 4:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a residence located on Dalhousie Street near Brock Street in regards to a theft of a motorcycle.
The motorcycle was stolen overnight from a parking lot in the rear of the residence.
Officers attended and through investigation, located the accused and recovered the stolen motorcycle.
As a result, Jordan Neil BAKER, 39, of Brantford, stands charged with:
• Motor Vehicle Theft – contrary to the Criminal Code
Three Face Multiple Firearms and Drug Related Charges after Search Warrant Executed at Motel

Three people from Brantford face multiple firearms and drug related charges after the Brantford Police Service executed a search warrant at a Colborne Street motel.
On Tuesday, January 4, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit and the Criminal Intelligence Unit entered into a drug trafficking investigation.
As a result of the investigation, with the assistance of the Emergency Response Team and uniform patrol officers,
a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant was obtained and executed at a motel located on Colborne Street.
Officers seized the following:
- a loaded, single-shot shotgun with ammunition
- approx. 2 grams of suspected fentanyl, with an estimated street value of $800
- Canadian currency and other offence related property.
As a result of this investigation, Joel Richard CLELLAND, 30; Kyle Dalton GRUMMETT, 26; and Jennifer Ann Raisa MYCHAILENKO, 33, from Brantford, each stand charged with the following:
- Careless storage of a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Careless storage of ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession of a firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Possession restricted firearm with ammunition, contrary to the Criminal Code, and
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code
Additionally, Joel Richard CLELLAND, 30, is charged with:
- Possession of a controlled substance, fentanyl, contrary to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
The accused have been held for bail.

Impaired Driving – Not Worth the Risk
At this time the Brantford Police Service feel the need to remind the public of the dangers of impaired driving.
Impaired driving means operating a vehicle (including cars, trucks, boats, snowmobiles and off-road vehicles) while your ability to do so has been compromised to any degree by consuming alcohol, drugs or a combination of the two.
Impaired driving is a very serious offence that endangers the lives and safety of everyone on our roads.
Alcohol — even one drink — can reduce your ability to react to things that happen suddenly. The effects of alcohol also include blurred or double vision, impaired attention and slowed reflexes. Impaired driving is one of the leading causes of death on Ontario’s roads.
Brantford Police Service would also like to remind drivers that both prescription and non-prescription drugs are an impairment while driving.
Penalties for Impaired Driving
If police determine that you are driving while impaired by alcohol or any drug, including cannabis, illegal drugs, prescription, and over-the-counter medications, you will face severe penalties as well as potential criminal charges if convicted in court.
The penalties vary depending on the driver’s age, licence type, the amount of alcohol or drugs in your system, and the number of times you have been convicted.
Impaired drivers will face the following penalties (depending on circumstances):
• Licence Suspension (3 days to lifetime)
• Vehicle Impoundment (7 days)
• Financial Penalties Payable ($250 to $550)
•Licence Reinstatement Fee ($281)
• An ignition interlock device may be required (6 months to 10 years)
• Attendance of mandatory education or treatment program(s)
• A mandatory medical evaluation to determine whether you meet the requirements for driving in Ontario
If convicted criminally of impaired driving in court, drivers can also face additional fines and jail time.
Throughout Canada, the maximum legal blood alcohol concentration (BAC) for fully licensed drivers is to be under 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood, or 0.08. Driving with a BAC of 0.08 or over is a criminal offence and the penalties are severe.
In Ontario, you will also face serious consequences if your BAC is between 0.05 and 0.08. This is commonly referred to as the "warn range.”
Drivers aged 21 or under and novice drivers of any age (with G1, G2, M1, or M2 licenses) must not have any presence of alcohol in their blood when behind the wheel. This is commonly referred to as the "zero BAC” or "zero tolerance” rule.
Young and novice drivers are also prohibited from having any presence of cannabis in their system as well as other drugs that can be detected using approved drug screening equipment. Ontario has a zero tolerance approach to both alcohol and drugs for all young and novice drivers.
Don’t Do It - Avoid Driving Impaired
Have a plan to get home safely. Have a designated driver, use public transit, call a friend or family member for a ride, call a taxi or ride share, or stay overnight.
There are simple steps you can take to stay safe and avoid driving while you are impaired by drugs or alcohol:

• Ask your doctor or pharmacist about side effects related to driving when using prescription medication.
• Read the information on the package of any prescription drugs or over-the-counter medicine, including allergy and cold remedies.
• Ask your doctor or pharmacist about how a prescription drug could affect you. Remember that combining drugs and alcohol together can impair your ability to drive more than using either one alone.

BPS Seek suspect information in stabbing

Branford Police Service Major Crimes Unit continue to investigate a stabbing and seek suspect information from the public.
On Thursday, December 27, 2021, at approximately 11:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service responded to a residence on Gladstone Avenue after receiving a report of an assault.
Officers attended the location and located a female victim within the residence who had sustained multiple stab wounds.
The victim was transported to hospital where she received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.
Police are currently seeking any information that may lead to identifying the suspect(s) responsible for this assault. A description of the suspect(s) is not available at this time. As a result of initial information received, police believe there is no threat to public safety.
