CRIME BRIEF: August 8, 2022

Type:                 Impaired - Alcohol
Incident:          22-31847
Location:         Brunswick Street 

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, at approximately 9:05 p.m., the Brantford Police Service responded to a call for service regarding a possible impaired driver.
 
Information was received to advise that an unresponsive man was in a motor vehicle outside a Brunswick Street residence.

Police arrived on scene and located the vehicle. The vehicle was running, and keys were in the ignition. 

Officers observed a man slouched over in the driver’s seat. The man appeared to be unconscious.

After several attempts, officers were able to wake the man and observed signs of impairment. The man was arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over twice the legal limit.

As a result of the investigation, a 27-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation while Impaired
  • Operation while Impaired - Plus 80

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 


Type:                 Break and Enter
Incident:          22-31739
Location:         Cayuga Street

On Sunday, August 7, 2022, at approximately 2:40 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a break and enter call for service, occurring at a Cayuga Street residence.

It was reported that a witness observed two men attempting to gain entry to a residence by kicking in the rear door. 

Police arrived on scene, located both suspects and, after a brief foot pursuit both accused were subsequently arrested without incident. 

As a result of the investigation, a 25-year-old man and a 27-year-old man, both of Brantford, each stand charged with one count of Attempt Break and Enter with Intent to Commit Indictable Offence contrary to the Criminal Code.

Incident:          22-31527
Location:         Erie Avenue and Salisbury Avenue

On Friday, August 5, 2022, at approximately 4:15 p.m., police were dispatched to the intersection of Erie Avenue and Salisbury Avenue after receiving a report of possible impaired driver.

Officers attended and located the suspect vehicle stopped at the intersection. The vehicle was running and occupied by a man who appeared to be unconscious. Officers observed drug paraphernalia in view. 

After several attempts, officers were able to wake to man and observed signs of impairment.

The accused completed a drug recognition evaluation where it was determined that the accused's ability to operate a conveyance was impaired. 

As a result, a 54-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with: 
  • Operation while Impaired, Alcohol and Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code

Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 

Type:                 Break and Enter
Incident:          22-31250
Location:         Nelson Street

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at approximately 7:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a Nelson Street apartment building for a Break and Enter call for service. 

Investigation revealed that the accused had gained entry to the building and was located within the elevator control room of the building.

Additionally, information was received to indicate that the accused was determined to be in violation of a valid probation order.

As a result, a 42-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
  • Break and Entering with Intent
  • Breach of Probation Order

The accused was held for bail.

Location:         Market Street

On Wednesday, August 3, 2022, at approximately 3:40 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a weapons related call for service at a Market Street location.

Information was received to advise that a man was allegedly observed defecating behind a Market Street building before pointing a firearm at an unknown citizen. 

Officers attended and located the suspect and the firearm, which was determined to be a replica, concealed on his person.

As a result, a 23-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Point Firearm
  • Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose
  • Carrying Concealed Weapon

CRIME BRIEF: August 3, 2022

Type:                 Impaired- Alcohol
Incident:          22-30677
Location:         Colborne Street West

On Sunday, July 31, 2022, at approximately 8:15 a.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle travelling west bound on Dalhousie Street near King Street at a high rate of speed. 

A traffic stop was conducted near the Lorne Bridge, at Colborne Street West. When speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.  

An Approved Screening Device was administered, which was failed. 
At this point, the accused was arrested, and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples provided were over the legal limit.

As a result, a 22-year-old female from Brantford, stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations: 
  • Operation While Impaired 
  • 80 Plus 

Additionally, the licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.
 

 
Type:                 Assault 
Incident:          22-30543
Location:         Market Street and Icomm Drive
 
On Saturday, July 30, 2022, at approximately 12:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a retail store located at Market Street and Icomm Drive for an assault related call for service. 

Prior to police arrival, the accused, attended the store and attempted to commit a theft by leaving with unpaid items. The accused was observed by a store employee who attempted to stop the accused from leaving.

At this time, a shopper who was entering the store and observed the confrontation attempted to assist the employee. During this altercation, the victim, a 38-year-old female, was allegedly bitten by the accused who then fled on foot out of the store. 

Police attended and the accused was located nearby and arrested.

As a result, a 24-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with: 
  • Assault, contrary to the Criminal Code 
 


Type:                 Impaired- Alcohol
Incident:          22-30481          
Location:         Lynden Road

On Saturday July 30, 2022, at approximately 12:30 a.m. patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a motor vehicle exiting from the east bound Highway 403 off-ramp, turning northbound on Wayne Gretzky Parkway, erratically and at a significantly slow rate of speed.

In an effort to determine sobriety of the driver, a traffic stop was conducted.

While speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment, and was subsequently arrested for impaired operation and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.

Both samples were nearly three times the legal limit.

Information was received to identify the accused as an unlicensed driver.

As a result of the investigation, a 52-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following: 
  • Operation While Impaired - Alcohol & Drugs, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code 
  • Drive Motor Vehicle - No Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act 

Additionally, the vehicle was impounded.


 
Type:                 Break and Enter
Incident:          22-30155
Location:         Grey Street

On Wednesday, July 27, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service received a report regarding an attempted break and enter at a residence located on Grey Street.

Investigation revealed that the accused attempted to gain entry to the residence by allegedly kicking in the front door, causing damage. The accused was unsuccessful in gaining entry to the unit, at which time the accused departed. 

As a result, a 27-year-old male from Hamilton stands charged with the following: 
  • Break, enter a dwelling house with intent to commit indictable offence, contrary to the Criminal Code

Location:         Colborne Street         
   
On Tuesday, July 26, 2022, at approximately 8:00 a.m., Brantford Police were dispatched to attend a report regarding a possible impaired driver at a location near Colborne Street and Clarence Street.

A concerned citizen called to report that a female appeared to be unconscious behind the wheel of a motor vehicle that was stopped at a Colborne Street gas station pump for an extended period of time.

Officers attended and successfully woke the woman. Items related to drug usage were observed in view. Speaking with the suspect, officers observed signs of impairment.

Search incident to arrest located a variety of prescription drugs and drug paraphernalia.

The accused was read a demand to be examined by a drug recognition expert and transported for a drug recognition expert evaluation to be performed. The evaluating officer formed the opinion that the subject's ability to operate a conveyance was impaired by drug

As a result of the incident, a 36-year-old female from Brantford stands charged with the following:
  • Impaired Operation – Drug, contrary to the Criminal Code

The motor vehicle was impounded, and the licence was suspended.
