Update
On Wednesday May 2, 2018 Brantford Police Service investigated a suspicious person incident in the area of Tutela Heights Road. Community Patrol Officers canvassed the area and were able to locate the child and her grandfather.
It has been determined that there was no threat or danger to the public or the parties involved. The Brantford Police Service would like to thank the public for their assistance in this investigation.

Brantford police are asking for the public?s assisting involving a suspicious incident that occurred in the area of Tutela Heights Rd.
On Wednesday May 2, 2018 around 4:00 pm, an unknown male was observed walking in the area of Tutela Heights Rd with a child who was wearing very little clothing. The child did not appear to be in distress.

Over $45,000 in Drugs and Cash Seized During Arrest
On Wednesday April 4th 2018 just before 2:30 p.m. members of the Brantford Police Service B.E.A.T Unit (Better Enforcement Action Team) observed a BMW parked in front of a business located at 50 Market St. S. Information had been received that the owner of the vehicle was wanted on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction. Officers then observed two males and one female exit the business and attend to the vehicle. Officers approached the vehicle and spoke to the male in the driver?s seat. The driver identified himself as the male wanted on the outstanding warrant. The accused (#1) was arrested without incident. While dealing with accused #1 he was found to be in possession of Crack Cocaine, Methamphetamine, Powder Cocaine, Fentanyl, and Codeine Pills and over $3,000.00 Cash. The driver and the two passengers were arrested for Possession of a Controlled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking. The male passenger (accused #2) was found to be in possession of Fentanyl, Cocaine, and Methamphetamine and over $800 in cash. Officers subsequently located Crack Cocaine, Powder Cocaine and Methamphetamine in the vehicle. Further investigation revealed that accused #1 and accused #2 were both bound by court orders with conditions.
As a result of the investigation accused #1 Khalid MOHAMED a 22 year old male from Hamilton is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x4 under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is also charged with Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code. Accused #2 Aladin ABDELGADIR a 22 year old male from Hamilton is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x4 under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act. He is also charged with Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code. Accused #3 Elizabeth NIKOLOVSKI an 18 year old female from Hamilton is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking x3 under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act. All three accused were held for a bail hearing.
In total, as a result of this investigation police seized:
1. 132.22g of Powder Cocaine with a street value of approximately $13,220.00
2. 121.08g of Crack Cocaine with a street value of approximately $12,108.00
3. 8.08g of Fentanyl with a street value of approximately $1939.00
4. 136.7g of Methamphetamine with a street value of approximately $13,670.00
5. Over $4000.00 in cash
Total value of controlled substances and cash seized was over $45,000.00

Firearm Surrender Program
Gun Amnesty
The Brantford Police Service will be participating in a Community Safety Initiative Program during the month of April. In conjunction with a provincial program run by the Ontario Provincial Police, this initiative will provide citizens a safe and easy opportunity to surrender firearms and ammunition for destruction.
The aim of the firearm surrender program is to improve public safety by reducing the number of firearms in our community. The amnesty will give citizens a way to safely dispose of unwanted, unlicensed and unregistered firearms. The program will be extended to all firearms including handguns, long guns, restricted, non-restricted and prohibited weapons. Additionally citizens will be encouraged to turn in any unwanted ammunition, replica firearms, pellet guns or antique weapons. There will be no fee charged to surrender these items and there is no financial reward for doing so. This program is aimed to further reduce the risk to the public and assist in ending the amount of firearms that end up in the possession of people with criminal intent.
During the program community members will need to:
- contact the Brantford Police Service and NOT bring the items into the police station itself by calling 519-756-0113
- the callers information will be collected and they will be contacted by a Community Patrol Officer
- each item turned in will be logged with make, model and serial number
- each item will be screened to determine if it falls under the amnesty program
Please note that this is not an anonymous program, you will be required to provide your information. Each case will be examined to determine if it meets the guidelines of the amnesty program and a Firearm Amnesty Form will be required to be completed. If the firearm has been used in the commission of an offence or does not meet the guidelines of the amnesty program a police investigation may take place.

Brantford Man Arrested For Child Pornography Related Offences
On October 5, 2017 the Internet Child Exploitation Unit of the Brantford Police Service executed a Search Warrant at residence located on Black Locust Way, Brantford. As a result of the search warrant several electronic devices were seized from the residence. A Forensic Examination of these electronic devices has since been conducted and were found to contain images of child pornography.
On March 23, 2018, a 23 year old Brantford male was charged with Distribution of Child Pornography and two counts of Possession of Child Pornography. He has been held for a bail hearing.
Background regarding the Provincial Strategy:
On March 29, 2007 the Brantford Police Service joined the Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Exploitation on the Internet.
The Provincial Strategy to Protect Children from Sexual Abuse and Exploitation on the Internet is comprised of the OPP Child Exploitation Section and 26 municipal police services. The online exploitation of children continues to be a challenge for investigators due to its sheer volume, global reaches and anonymity; however, these police partners and the Provincial Government are committed to making a difference in our communities. This Project has been made possible by a grant from the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services.
The Brantford Police Service supports this strategy, and has recognized that images of children and child abuse placed on the internet lead to perpetual victimization.

At this time we would like to acknowledge PSD Ranger who was officially retired on Feb 12th, 2018 due to an injured disk in his back.
He arrived at the service as one of the BPS?s 1st Canine Unit members in Jan 2014 and was deployed on patrol in June 2014 with his partner Cst. Jason Nagy.

Human Trafficking Investigation
Two young woman aged 14 and 16 were removed from the control of their traffickers
On the early morning hours of Monday March 12, 2018, Community Patrol Officers attended a Motel on Colborne Street and spoke with two females. The officers identified the two young women as victims of Human Trafficking, being forced into the sex trade. An investigation, including officers from the BPS Child Abuse and Sexual Assault (CASA) and BPS Major Crime Units began.
Investigation revealed that the two Hamilton women were being recruited and controlled to provide sexual services. The accused advertised sexual services to be performed by the two young victims. When cash was received in exchange for sexual services the accused took the money.
As a result of this investigation two accused were arrested without incident at the motel for human trafficking related offences.

Both accused were held in custody for a bail hearing.

Human Trafficking Offences prohibits the recruitment, transportation, harbouring or controlling of the movements of another for the purpose of exploiting or facilitating the exploitation of that person. It is also an offence to receive a financial or other material benefit, knowing that it results from the trafficking of a person.
Procuring is defined as procuring a person to offer or provide sexual services for consideration or for the purposes of facilitating the purchasing offence, recruiting, holding, concealing or harbouring a person who offers or provides sexual services for consideration or exercising control, direction or influence over the movements of that person.
Human trafficking is defined as recruiting, transporting, transferring, receiving, holding, concealing or harbouring a person, or exercising control direction or influence over the movements of a person, for the purposes of exploiting them or facilitating their exploitation.

Possible signs that someone is being groomed for sex trafficking include changes such as:
? Withdrawing from family and friends
? Being secretive about their activities
? Having a new boyfriend, girlfriend or friend who they won?t introduce to friends and family
? Suddenly spending time with an older person or people
? Staying out more often and later
? Absences from school or a decline in school performance
? Wearing more sexualized clothing
? Having new clothing, jewelry etc. that they can?t afford to buy
? Suddenly having a new or second cell phone with a secret number
Signs someone is being ?Recruited? or ?Groomed?
? The person is not allowed to speak for themselves and their activities are controlled by someone else.
? The person is under 18 and involved in prostitution or sex work.
? The person is unpaid or paid very little to work, and seems to be treated poorly (long or unusual hours, not allowed breaks, forced to live in poor conditions, etc.).
? The person is repaying a large debt through labour or sex.
? The person seems fearful, anxious, depressed, submissive, tense, or nervous/paranoid. They may avoid eye contact, seem fearful around police, etc.
? The person shows signs of abuse, such as bruising, cigarette burns, fractures, etc.
? The person has tattooing or branding symbols, particularly names.
? The person doesn?t have their own things or money, and doesn?t control their own passport or other documents.
? The person seems malnourished or lacks medical care.
? The person is moved frequently and may not know their surroundings well.
? The person has been reported missing.

Crime Brief - March 9, 2018
Type: Arrest
Incident: At around 12:30 p.m. on Thursday March 8, 2018 the accused was observed removing items from his pocket and hiding them in a flower pot outside the court house at 44 Queen Street. A Community Patrol Officer seized several items, one being a kitchen type knife with a 5 inch blade. The accused who had attended inside the court house was arrested for Possession of a Weapon for Dangerous Purpose and Breach of Probation. The accused a 26 year old Hamilton man was released on an appearance notice with a future court date.

Incident: On Thursday March 8, 2018 a woman attended the Brantford Police Service to report being a victim of a fraud. The 55 year old Brantford woman advised that she had responded to an advertisement on Kijiji about purchasing an ?apple tv?. The woman electronically transferred $70.00 to an email provided to her after speaking to the man from the advertisement. The victim was then advised that she could pick up the ?apple tv? at an address in Waterloo. When the woman attended the residential address in Waterloo she spoke to persons at the home and learned that they did not post an advertisement on kijiji and that she had been the victim of a scam.

Brantford Man Charged With Murder
A 28 year old Brantford male has been charged with First Degree Murder in relation to a shooting that occurred on New Year?s Day in Brantford.
On Monday January 1, 2018 just after 5:30 p.m. the Branford Police Service received a call about a male who had been taken to the Brantford General Hospital with life threatening injuries. An incident had occurred in the area of St Paul Ave and Terrace Hill Street. The male victim, Jeffrey Ronald Maxner died from his injuries.
Detectives from the Major Crime Unit as well as other areas of the Criminal Investigation Section have been continuing with their investigation into this incident.
As a result of this continuing Investigation, Joel Scalzo a 28 year old Brantford man has been charged with First Degree Murder.
It is believed that the Victim and the Accused were known to each other and that this was not a random act.

Domestic - Brantford Woman Charged Attempt Murder
January 18, 2018
On Wednesday January 17, 2018 shortly before 8:00 a.m. the Brantford Police Service attended an address on Edith Monture Avenue regarding a disturbance. Two children in the home had received non-life threatening injuries.
The accused was taken first to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and then transported to the Brantford Police Service.
As a result of this investigation the accused, a 46 year old Brantford woman is charged with Attempt Murder X2 and is held in custody for a bail hearing on today?s date.
The Brantford Police Service will not be releasing the name of the accused or any information regarding the victims to protect their identity.

January 17, 2018
On Wednesday January 17, 2018 shortly before 8:00 a.m., the Brantford Police Service received a call to assist ambulance at an address on Edith Monture Avenue. A 46 year old Brantford woman was taken into custody at the home. Two children at the home were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
The accused was also transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and remains in police custody.
The investigation continues. The scene has been secured and officers from the BPS Major Crime Unit and Forensics Identification Unit will remain at the scene continuing their investigation.
