On Monday, September 1, 2025, at approximately 11:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Services Traffic Unit were conducting Back-to-School road safety enforcement in the area of Paris Road near Tollgate Road, when they observed an e-bike travelling at an excessive rate of speed.

The e-bike was recorded travelling 82 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone. Officers conducted a traffic stop and speaking with the driver determined that the accused did not have any insurance on the e-bike and his driver’s licence had been suspended 29 years prior.

Additionally, an e-bike, under provincial law, must not exceed the speed limit of 32 km/hr. The e-bike in question had been illegally modified to be able exceed the legislated speed limit.

As a result, a 53-year-old male from Brantford stands charged with the following:

  • Driving while under suspension
  • Speeding: 82km/hr in a 50km/hr zone
  • Drive motor vehicle – improper licence
  • Power-assisted bicycle – speed or power modified
  • Owner operate motor vehicle on a highway – no insurance
