Brantford Police Enhancing Emergency Response with Launch of Next Generation 9-1-1
November 26, 2025
Beginning November 26, 2025, the Brantford Police Service will implement Next Generation 9-1-1 (NG9-1-1), a modernized emergency communications network designed to improve how emergency calls are received and managed in our community.
This upgrade marks an important milestone in public safety for Brantford, ensuring faster, more reliable connections when seconds matter most.
About NG9-1-1
NG9-1-1 represents a major advancement in emergency communications across Canada. While residents will continue to dial 9-1-1 in an emergency, the technology and systems supporting those calls are being transformed to better serve the public.
The NG9-1-1 system will:
- Provide faster and more accurate caller location and contact information
- Strengthen system reliability, redundancy, and cybersecurity
- Enable future technologies such as real-time text, voice, video and image sharing
- Enhance coordination between first responders and partner agencies
What does this mean for Brantford residents
For the public, the change is seamless: you will call 9-1-1 as usual in an emergency. Behind the scenes, however, Brantford Police Service communicators will be supported by improved tools that help locate callers more accurately and manage emergency responses more efficiently.
The upgraded network also ensures enhanced backup capabilities, keeping emergency communications running smoothly even in the event of technical issues or network outages. As technology evolves, NG9-1-1 will allow additional methods of contacting emergency services, such as text or video, without changing the familiar 9-1-1 number. These additional features may be available in the future.
The Brantford Police Service remains committed to providing timely, effective, and modern emergency response for all residents and visitors of Brantford. The implementation of NG9-1-1 reflects our ongoing investment in innovation and our dedication to ensure every call for help is answered quickly, reliably, and with the best possible technology.
The Ontario government has provided more than $1.2 million since 2022 to support the Brantford Police Service’s transition to NG9-1-1.
"Upgrading Ontario’s public safety communications will be a game changer,” said Hon. Michael Kerzner, Solicitor General of Ontario. “Next Generation 9-1-1 gives first responders real-time, life-saving information which means a faster, more effective emergency response. Under the leadership of Premier Ford, our government will always have the backs of those who protect our province. That’s why we are proud to provide funding to Brantford for this new technology which will mean more calls will be answered, more lives will be saved and people across the city can count on emergency services when it matters most."
The launch of NG9-1-1 is the result of careful planning, technical implementation and collaboration. The Brantford Police Service thanks our communications staff, technical partners, funding agencies and the Ontario Government for their support of this important public safety project.
