Brantford Police Service Board Approves 2026 Budget
December 18, 2025
At today’s meeting, the Brantford Police Services Board approved the Brantford Police Service’s 2026 operating budget, representing a 7.99 per cent increase over the 2025 budget, a carefully considered and conservative adjustment that balances essential public safety needs with fiscal restraint.
The approved budget includes funding to add six new sworn officers, strengthening frontline policing and public safety across the city. Of these positions, five officers will be dedicated to downtown policing, supporting increased visibility, proactive enforcement, and community engagement, while one additional officer will be assigned to traffic services to enhance road safety and traffic enforcement citywide.
Importantly, the approved 2026 budget reflects a lower increase than what was originally presented to the City of Brantford’s Estimates Committee, demonstrating the Board’s and the Service’s commitment to fiscal responsibility while continuing to meet growing community and operational demands.
“The Board carefully considered community needs, operational pressures, and the broader financial environment facing the City,” said Allan Lovett, Chair of the Brantford Police Services Board. “This budget strikes a responsible balance, supporting effective policing while being mindful of the impact on taxpayers.”
The Brantford Police Service continues to experience increased service demands related to population growth, the unique needs of the downtown core, traffic volumes, and complex calls for service. The additional officers approved in the 2026 budget will help address these pressures while maintaining service levels and public safety.
“This approved budget allows us to strategically invest in frontline resources where they are most needed,” said Jason Saunders, Chief of Police. “We are grateful for the Board’s support and for the collaborative process that resulted in a responsible and sustainable budget for 2026.”
The 2026 budget will now proceed through the City’s budget approval process.
