Public Statement on Misinformation Circulating in the Community (Cedarland Park)

September 11, 2025

We feel it necessary to address a recent wave of misinformation that has been circulating throughout our community. Despite what has been shared online or by word of mouth, detectives have confirmed that no assault or sexual assault occurred in the incident currently under review.

While we understand that people are often quick to react out of concern and care, it is critical that we do not allow fear or speculation to override facts. Spreading unverified claims, particularly those of a serious nature like allegations of sexual assault, can have serious consequences: it causes unnecessary panic and fear, undermines trust in law enforcement, and unfairly stigmatizes individuals.

We ask everyone to please:
•    Rely only on official statements from the Brantford Police Service or other reliable sources.
•    Avoid sharing or repeating rumours or assumptions, particularly on social media.
•    Be mindful of the impact of unverified claims on victims, witnesses, and the community at large.
•    Recognize the responsibility we all have in ensuring the safety, not just physically, but emotionally and reputationally, of others in our community.

We appreciate the concern and vigilance of the public. Thank you to those who continue to support a fact-based, respectful, and united community. Your assistance in reporting helpful, accurate information is vital. Let us ensure that our community responses are based on facts, not fear.
