UPDATE: 35-Year-Old Man Charged with Second Degree Murder in Weekend Shooting of Good Samaritan

Members of the Brantford Police Service continue to investigate a shooting that occurred at approximately 8:15 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2026, that claimed the life of a 38-year-old man from Brantford.
The investigation has revealed that the victim acted as a good Samaritan and intervened in an altercation before he was shot by the accused.
Through the use of K-9 tracking, members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team quickly located the accused hiding in the rear yard of a nearby home. The accused was arrested shortly after the incident and the firearm believed to have been the weapon used in the shooting was recovered by police. No additional suspects are being sought.
As a result, a 35-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:
- Second Degree Murder
- Possession of Prohibited Firearm with Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Breach of Probation Order
The accused is being held for bail hearing.

Members of the Brantford Police Service are actively investigating after officers were called to a report of a shooting in the area of Erie Avenue and Gladstone Avenue.
At approximately 8:15 p.m., Sunday, April 5, 2026, officers responded to the area of Erie Avenue and Gladstone Avenue after receiving a report of a shooting. Upon arrival, officers located a man without vital signs. Officers have confirmed that the man had been shot and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
As this investigation is in its infancy, officers are working to gather information, identify the victim, and locate the suspect(s). At the present time, the suspect(s) descriptions are not available.
Please expect a large police presence in the area of Erie Avenue and Gladstone Area for at least several hours. The Brantford Police Service are asking members of the public to avoid the area.
