Police Seize over $17,000 in Illegal Psilocybin and Other Substances, Storefront Closed

Members of the Brantford Police Core Engagement and Response Team seized over $17,000 in illegal psilocybin and other substances and arrested a 35-year-old man from Hamilton for trafficking after executing a search warrant at an illegal retail psilocybin storefront in Brantford.

The BPS Core Engagement and Response Team initiated an investigation into an illegal psilocybin store which had re-opened at a Colborne Street location. This illegal retail business had been previously shut down by police on several other occasions.

On Friday, May 1, 2026, members of the BPS Core Engagement and Response Team executed a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act search warrant at the business. Police seized psilocybin and psilocybin products with a total estimated street value of $14,365, Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) products with an estimated street value of $2,140, Dimethylamine with an estimated street value of $975 and a total of $905 in unmarked cigarettes. In total, approximately $17,480 of illegal substances and $905 in illegal tobacco products were seized as a result of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Warrant.

As a result of the investigation, a 35-year-old man from Hamilton stands charged with the following:

  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking- Schedule III to wit: Psilocybin, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking- Schedule III to wit: Dimethyltryptamine, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking- Schedule III to wit: Lysergic Acid Diethylamide, Contrary to Section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.
  • Possess Unmarked Cigarettes for sale

At this time, the Brantford Police Service reminds the public that the sale and purchase of psilocybin (magic mushrooms) remain illegal in Canada. Psilocybin is a controlled substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act, and possession, production, or trafficking of it can result in criminal charges.
