Police Service Dog Mack Deployed and Apprehended Suspect following Weapons Incident.

Inc. # 26-030831

August 2nd 2026

On August 2nd at 12:39am, Brantford Police Service responded to the area of Mohawk St and Morrison Rd for a report of a weapons offence involving a male brandishing a knife at a security guard who caught him trespassing on the property.

Police arrived on scene and received information that the suspect had fled on foot towards a dense wooded area nearby prompting officers to establish containment and deploy the Brantford Police Service K-9 Unit.

The search was led by Police Service Dog (PSD) Mack, a K-9 handler and members of the Emergency Response Team (ERT) into the thick brush with support from patrol officers on containment to locate the suspect.

Despite the rainy conditions, PSD Mack quickly located and apprehended the suspect successfully and was placed into custody without further incident.

As a result of the investigation, a 41-year old Brantford man has been charged with multiple criminal code offences;

·         Probation Order: Non-Compliance x2

·         Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

The suspect was transported to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries and has a mandatory court date in October 2026.

Police Service Dogs are specially trained to assist in locating and safely apprehending suspects, tracking missing or fleeing persons, searching for evidence, and supporting high-risk incidents. When deployed, K-9 handlers provide suspects with clear verbal commands and opportunities to surrender peacefully. The use of a PSD are intended to safely resolve incidents while reducing the risk of injury to officers, the public and the suspect. Members of the public are reminded to avoid entering areas where a K-9 track is underway to ensure the safety of everyone involved.
