Brantford police lay charges following investigation into assault involving youth

The Brantford Police Service has concluded its investigation into an assault involving youth that was brought to police attention after a video of the incident circulated on social media.

As a result of the investigation:

• A 13-year-old female has been charged with Assault
• A 12-year-old female has been charged with Assault

Investigators also identified an 11-year-old male who would have been charged in relation to the incident. However, under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, children under the age of 12 cannot be criminally charged.

As this matter involves young persons, no further information will be released.

The Brantford Police Service reminds the public that incidents involving violence or suspected criminal activity should be reported directly to police. Prompt reporting enables investigators to preserve evidence, identify those involved, and ensure appropriate support is provided to victims. Police also urge the public not to share images or videos of criminal incidents on social media, particularly when they involve children or youth. Sharing this content can cause additional harm to victims, negatively impact those involved, and may interfere with ongoing police investigations. In addition, the publication or distribution of information that could identify a young person involved in the criminal justice system may violate the Youth Criminal Justice Act.
