CRIME BRIEF: January 6, 2023
Type: Commercial Robbery
Incident: 22-00603
Location: Shellard Lane and Conklin Drive
On Thursday, January 5, 2023, at approximately 12:30 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a retail location on Shellard Lane after receiving a report of a robbery.
A suspect was reported to have entered the store, brandished a gun, and demanded cash from the store employee.
The suspect obtained a quantity of currency and fled the scene on foot.
The suspect is described as:
- male, approximately 30-years-old, 5"10, 140 lbs., wearing a blue Covid mask, brown jacket, dark pants, and brown hooded sweatshirt
No physical injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.

Location: Nelson Street
On Sunday, January 1, 2023, at approximately 1:45 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a report of a man who had allegedly threatened to stab another man at a Nelson Street residence.
Officers attended and, as a result of the investigation, a 19-year-old man from Brantford was arrested and stands charged for the following:
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm, contrary to the Criminal Code
The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: West Street and Edmondson Street
On Saturday, December 31, 2022, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers conducting a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) spot-check located at West Street, just south of Edmondson Street, observed a driver operating his vehicle without headlights or rear lights illuminated. The driver approached the RIDE program at a high rate of speed.
Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment and performed a roadside sobriety test, which the accused failed.
The accused was subsequently arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.
Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 29-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following:
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive Without Proper Rear Light - Motor Vehicle, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: 22-53112
Location: Melrose Place
On Saturday, December 31, 2022, at approximately 1:15 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a Melrose Place location after receiving a report of possible impaired driver asleep in a vehicle.
Officers attended and located two people in the suspect vehicle who appeared to be asleep. The male (in the driver's seat) and female occupant (in the passenger seat) had to be awoke by officers.
Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. A Naloxone kit and drug paraphernalia were observed in clear view by the officer.
As a result, the officer arrested the accused for Impaired Care and Control of Motor Vehicle by Drug.
The officer provided a Drug Recognition Breath Demand at the time of arrest where it was determined that the accused was impaired by drug.
As a result, a 35-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with:
- Operation while Impaired, contrary to the Criminal Code
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Location: Conklin Road
Officers with the Brantford police continue to investigate a commercial robbery and are seeking assistance from the public to identify a suspect.
On Friday, December 30, 2022, at approximately 1:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford police were dispatched to attend a retail location on Conklin Road, regarding a robbery.
A suspect was reported to have entered the retail store and demanded cash from the store employee. The suspect was unsuccessful in his attempt to obtain cash and fled the scene with merchandise and cigarettes.
No physical injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
The suspect is described as follows:
- White, male, wearing a white face mask, black winter coat, grey jeans, black toque, and black goggles.
The suspect was observed fleeing the scene on a bicycle, toward Conklin Road and Blackburn Drive.

Location: Pearl Street
Officers with the Brantford police continue to investigate a commercial robbery and are seeking assistance from the public to identify a suspect.
On Thursday, December 29, 2022, at approximately 6:00 p.m., a suspect entered a retail store located on Pearl Street, brandished a knife, and demanded cash from the store employee.
After receiving a quantity of cash and cigarettes, the suspect fled on foot.
No physical injuries were sustained as a result of the incident.
The suspect is described as follows:
- White, male, 60’s, approximately 5’10” – 6’, wearing a black balaclava, green hooded sweatshirt, a grey/black two-tone jacket with a grey stripe, and brown shoes.

Location: Lynden Road
On Thursday, December 29, 2022, at approximately 2:45 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a location at Lynden Road and Wayne Gretzky Parkway, after receiving information that a group of young females had threatened a group of young males with a knife.
Investigation revealed that the accused female, had allegedly threatened the victim, a 13-year-old male, with a folding pocketknife.
The accused had left the scene prior to police arrival.
Police subsequently located the accused at a nearby location.
As a result of police investigation, the accused youth, a 13-year-old female, has been arrested and stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm
- Assault with a weapon
- Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose

Location: West Street and Morton Avenue
On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at approximately 8:00 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Byrne Street after receiving a report of a person with a machete.
The caller advised that the person was walking down the street, waving the machete and yelling.
Officers attended and located the accused at West Street and Morton Avenue.
The accused was subsequently arrested for possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.
A search of the accused incident to arrest revealed that he was in possession of a baton. A brief search of the area resulted in police recovering a machete, which was later confirmed to be matching the description of the weapon reported to police by the complainant.
Officers observed signs of intoxication when dealing with the accused.
As a result of the investigation, a 15-year-old youth stands charged with the following:
- Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Being Intoxicated in Public Place, contrary to the Liquor Licence & Control Act

Location: Multiple Locations
On Tuesday, December 27, 2022, at approximately 11:50 a.m. officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a parking lot located at West Street and Fairview Drive, after receiving information that a man who was wanted on a warrant had been observed.
The accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant for aggravated assault related to a July 7, 2022, incident.
Police arrived on scene and located the accused on foot, in the parking lot, attempting to evade police. The accused was taken into custody without incident.
Search incident to arrest the located the following in possession of the accused:
- Approximately 22.4 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine
- Approximately 13.3 grams of a suspected psilocybin
- A digital scale and a quantity of Canadian currency
As a result, a 42-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Controlled Drugs and Substances Act violations:
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule I Substance
- Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking a Schedule III Substance
Additionally, the accused has been charged in relation to three break and enter investigations that occurred at retail locations during December 2022 as outlined below:

A search incident to arrest revealed a large quantity of lottery tickets in possession of the accused. The tickets were previously reported as stolen from the robberies.
As a result of the investigation, the accused also stands charged with the following Criminal Code offences:
- Break, Enter a Place - Commit Indictable Offence x 3
- Possession of Stolen Goods under $5000 x 3
The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Incident: 22-52524
Location: East Avenue
On Monday, December 26, 2022, at approximately 11:45 p.m., patrol officers with the Brantford Police Service observed a vehicle swerving in traffic, hitting a curb, in the area of Colborne Street near Alfred Street.
A traffic stop was conducted to determine sobriety of the driver.
Speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment. Additionally, the accused was unable to produce his driver’s licence.
Investigation revealed the accused was a prohibited, unlicensed driver.
The accused was arrested and subjected to roadside sobriety testing, which he failed. The accused was then transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.
Both samples provided were over the legal limit.
As a result of the investigation, a 38-year-old man from Brantford, stands charged with the following:
- Operation While Impaired - Blood Alcohol Concentration, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Operation While Prohibited, contrary to the Criminal Code
- Drive Motor Vehicle - No Licence, contrary to the Highway Traffic Act
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded.

Location: Wellington Street and Rawdon Street
On Monday, December 26, 2022, at approximately 1:10 a.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Wellington Street and Rawdon Street after receiving a report of a possible impaired driver.
Officers located the vehicle and performed a traffic stop to determine sobriety of the driver.
In speaking with the driver, officers observed signs of impairment.
The accused was arrested and transported to provide samples of breath as required by law. Both samples were more than twice the legal limit.
As a result, a 21-year-old female from Hagersville stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Operation while Impaired
- Operating a conveyance with over 80 milligrams of alcohol
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: 22-51881
Location: Wadsworth Street
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at approximately 9:15 p.m., officers with the Brantford Police Service were dispatched after receiving a call from a concerned citizen to advise of a possible impaired driver, passed out behind the wheel of a vehicle, at a Wadsworth Street location.
Officers attended, located the vehicle, which was running, with the accused occupying the driver seat. The accused appeared to be asleep.
Officers observed signs of impairment when speaking with the accused.
The accused was arrested, read the drug recognition evaluation demand, and transported to perform a drug recognition evaluation.
It was determined that the accused was impaired by drug.
As a result, a 31-year-old man from Paris stands charged with Operation while Impaired, contrary the Criminal Code.
Additionally, the driver’s licence of the accused was suspended, and the vehicle impounded.

Incident: 22-51877
Location: Colborne Street and Robinson Avenue
On Wednesday, December 21, 2022, at approximately 8:15 p.m., members of the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to attend a motor vehicle collision involving a possible impaired driver.
Officers attended the intersection of Colborne Street East and Robinson Avenue, and in speaking with the driver of one of the vehicles, observed signs of impairment.
Investigation revealed that the driver had provided a false identity to officers and was currently bound by numerous driving suspensions, a valid court action peace bond, probation order and court action suspended sentence.
The accused was then placed under arrest for obstruct peace officer, operation while impaired, and driving while suspended.
The accused was transported to provide samples of breath as required by law.
Additionally, a drug recognition officer conducted a drug evaluation and found the accused to be impaired by drug.
As a result of this investigation, a 30-year-old man from Brantford stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Impaired Operation of a Conveyance
- Obstruct Peace Officer
- Breach of Probation x 2
- Disobey Court Order
- Operation while Prohibited X 4
Additionally, the vehicle was impounded.
