Type:  Impaired - Alcohol
Incident: 19-03707
Location: Henry Street/ Wayne Gretzky Parkway       
Incident: On Tuesday January 29, 2019 just after 10:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a report about a single motor vehicle collision at the intersection of Henry Street and Wayne Gretzky Parkway.  A vehicle had been travelling south when it left the roadway and struck a telephone pole.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and driver.  Upon speaking to the driver Officers observed signs of impairment.  The driver was issued a roadside screening device demand.  The driver provided a sample into a roadside screening device and registered a fail.  The driver was arrested and transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit.  A 20 year old Brantford male has been charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code of Canada.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Incident:  On Tuesday January 29, 2019 just after 3:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a Break and Enter from a residence on Brighton Ave.  A relative of the owner had attended the residence and was not welcome.  The male refused to leave and broke a front window to the residence in order to gain access to the locked door.  When the male entered, the resident contacted police.  Community patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the male inside.  A 38 year old Brantford male has been charged with Mischief to Property Under $5000.

Incident: On Monday January 28, 2019 just after 6:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a theft at a business on Stanley Street.  The victim had been inside the business when she noticed that her wallet was missing from her table.  The victim observed a female who had been sitting beside her with her wallet in her hand.  The female gave the wallet back and fled the business.  When the victim looked inside her wallet she was missing money.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located and arrested the accused a short distance away.  A 20 year old Brantford woman has been charged with  Theft Under $5000.

Location: High Street       
Incident: On January 26, 2019 just before 2:00 p.m. Community Patrol Officers were in the area of High Street conducting an investigation.  While in the area Officers located a female who was currently wanted for several Criminal Code offences related to another incident.  The female was found to be in the company of an individual that she was not to have contact with as per an outstanding court order. The female was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the accused she was found to be in possession of 10 unidentified pills and a small amount of suspected Fentanyl.  She was also found to be in possession of a stolen drivers licence.  A 25 year old Brantford female has been charged with Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000 and Breach of Probation x2 under the Criminal Code.  She is further charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: Market Street     
Incident: On Sunday January 27, 2019 just before 3:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call from a business on Market Street regarding a shoplifter.  An unknown female was seen by employees gathering items and then attending the washroom.  When the female left the washroom employees could no longer see the items.  The female left the store and was confronted by staff.  The female had concealed several items on her person and in a shopping bag and had not made any attempts to pay for the hem.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the business where they located and arrested the accused without incident.  Investigation revealed that the accused was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  A 34 year old Brantford woman was arrested on the outstanding warrant and has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.

Location: Market Street      
Incident: On Friday January 25, 2019 just after 9:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a robbery from a store on Market Street.  An unknown male had entered the store, brandished a knife and demanded money.  When the employee refused the suspected fled.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area in an attempt to locate the suspect.  Officers were able to view video surveillance and were able to positively identify the suspect.  While searching the area Officers located the accused in a vehicle.  The vehicle was being driven by the accused wife.  As a result of the investigation a 52 year old male and a 47 year old female have been charged with Robbery.

Location: Victoria Street      
Incident: On Saturday January 26, 2019 just after 1:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about an assault at a residence on Victoria Street.  Two of the residents in the house had gotten into a verbal argument which turned physical.  The one residence had taken a broken table leg and had assaulted the other resident with it.  After the altercation the suspect then damaged a door in the residence by punching and kicking holes in it.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located the parties involved.  The accused was arrested without incident.  The victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the altercation.  A 25 year old Brantford male has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Mischief to Property Under $5000 and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.

Location: Park Ave      
Incident: On Friday January 25, 2019 just after 4:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a theft from a residence on Park Ave.  An unknown male and female had been seen in the area and took a package from the front porch that had been delivered to an address on Park Ave.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located and arrested the male and female without incident.  A 41 year old female from Brantford is charged with Theft Under $500 and Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.  A 48 year old Brantford male is charged with Theft Under $5000.

Location: Colborne Street      
Incident: On Friday January 25, 2019 just after 2:00 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a vehicle travelling on Colborne Street.  Information was received that the licence plate attached to the vehicle had been reported missing.  Officers performed a traffic stop and spoke to the male driver.  Investigation revealed that the driver was currently a novice driver and was not abiding by conditions of a G1 drivers licence, that the driver’s licence was currently suspended and that he was currently bound by a court order with conditions that he was currently contravening.  Further investigation revealed a large amount of suspected cocaine (street value $2500) located inside the vehicle.  It was also discovered that the vehicle had mechanical defects and that the validation sticker attached to the licence plate had been altered.  As a result of the investigation a 19 year old Brampton male has been charged with Breach of Recognizance Order under the Criminal Code.  He is also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.  The accused has also been charged with Drive While Under Suspension x2 and several other Highway Traffic Act offences along with Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.

UPDATE - Shooting Investigation

On January 23, 2019 at approximately 5:30 PM Brantford Police Service were called to a residence on Woodlawn Ave. in relation to a shooting. A male in his 20’s had sustained injuries. 

The male was transported to hospital where he was treated.  He is in stable condition.

Brantford Police believe that this is not a random act and the victim and suspects are known to each other.  A description of the suspects is as follows:

SUSPECT #1: Lighter skinned black male, approximately 6'1" unshaven, with short black hair.  He was wearing black jeans and a grey short jacket

SUSPECT #2:  White male wearing a blue jacket with a hood. No further information is available.

The investigation is continuing.

Shooting Investigation

On January 23, 2019 at approximately 5:30 PM Brantford Police Service were called to a residence on Woodlawn Ave. in relation to a shooting. A male in his 20’s had sustained injuries. 

The male has been transported to hospital where he is currently being treated.  His condition is not known.

Brantford Police Service are of the opinion that the victim and unknown suspect or suspects are known to each other, and that this was not a random incident. Brantford Police Service continue to investigate.

Citizens’ Police Academy Accepting Applications

The Brantford Police Service is inviting members of the public to submit applications for our 2019 Citizens Police Academy. The Academy will run each Wednesday from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. commencing March 27, 2019 to May 15, 2019.

The first known Citizens’ Police Academy was formed in the United Kingdom in 1977. Our Service’s first Academy began in March 1999 and ran for eight weeks. The Brantford Police Service Citizens’ Police Academy has been structured as a series of interactive, information-sharing evenings, similar to a night school class. Whatever a citizen’s motivation for attending, the end result will be a community member who better understands the challenges and responsibilities that the men and women of the Brantford Police Service face every day.  There will also be an opportunity for participants to provide feedback and suggestions to improve the Service.

We are looking for mature, community-minded adults who represent a wide range of ages, occupations and reasons for participating. Security checks will be completed before selection of the participants and valid photo identification is also required which should be attached to the application.

The following topics will be covered during our 21st Citizen’s Police Academy.
• Overview of the Brantford Police Service
• Tour of the facility
• Canine Unit
• Forensic Identification
• Criminal Investigation – Major Crime
• Use of force
• Internet crime and safety
• Motor vehicle collision investigation/reconstruction and radar

On the final evening there will be a graduation ceremony and a draw for three graduates to participate in a ‘ride-along’ with one of our community patrol officers.

Suspicious Male for Identification

Brantford Police are seeking the public’s assistance in identifying a suspicious male.  


On January 16th, 2019, at approximately 3:30 pm in the area of Brant Avenue, an eleven year old youth was followed home after school.  The unknown male followed the youth down Brant Ave to his residence.  After the youth arrived home the unknown male knocked on the door.  When the door was answered by a parent, the male stated he had the wrong address and left the area.


The suspect male is described as having tanned or light brown skin, approximately 5’3 in height with black hair styled in dreadlocks.  The male was wearing a red baseball hat, black pants, black hoodie, white shoes and was wearing a 3/4 length coat.  The coat is described as being tanned in colour, made of sheep skin with white fuzzy material on the inside.

Location: Crandle Ave       
Incident: On Tuesday January 22, 2019 just after 12:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a Break and Enter to a residence on Crandle Ave.   The victim awoke to find an unknown person standing in their kitchen.  The victim fled the residence and called 9-1-1 for assistance.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located an unknown male hiding in the basement.  The male was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the male he was found to be in possession of property that had been stolen from a different investigation.  Information was received that the accused was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant from another jurisdiction and was also currently bound by a court order with conditions.  A 23 year old Brantford male was arrested on the outstanding warrant and has been further charged with Break and Enter, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000 and Breach of Probation.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Incident: On Monday January 21, 2019 just after 3:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a shoplifter at a business on Colborne Street.  Employees advised that a female was seen in the store concealing items in her purse and on her person.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the business where they located the suspect still inside the store.  While speaking to the female she was found to have several items concealed even though she had a shopping cart with items inside.  Investigation revealed that the name the suspect provided was false and that she currently was wanted on an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  The accused was arrested without incident.  A 29 year old Brantford woman was arrested on an outstanding warrant and has been charged with Theft Under $5000 and Obstruct Police under the Criminal Code.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Incident: On Sunday, January 20th, 2019, just before 10:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a report about a two vehicle accident on Wayne Gretzky Parkway at Grey Street.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area and located the motor vehicle collision.  While speaking to the drivers involved, the male driver of the one vehicle showed signs of impairment and was given a roadside screening device demand.  The driver provided a sample into the roadside screening device and registered a fail.  The driver was arrested and transported to the Brantford Police Service where he was to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit. A 54 year old Milton male has been charged with Operate Motor Vehicle - 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Brantford Police Continue to Investigate Hate Crime

The Brantford Police Service – Major Crime Unit continues to investigate the hate crime committed at the Brantford Mosque. 

On Sunday October 21, 2018 at approximately 2:20 a.m. two unknown suspects attended
the Brantford Mosque located at 192 Greenwich Street, Brantford.  The suspects
proceeded to spray paint the walls of the Brantford Mosque and the parking lot
with hateful remarks and symbols directed at members of this religious faith.

The two suspects appear to be young males, with an average height and slim build.  Both
males were wearing long pants with hoodies and carrying backpacks. The one suspect has
a picture of a bull head on the front of his hoodie. 
 
The Brantford Police Service takes this incident very seriously and has continued to
investigate it since it occurred.  The BPS – Major Crime Unit is seeking the
public’s assistance in identifying the two individuals who are responsible.

Type:  Counterfeit Money

Location: Erie Ave       
Incident:  On Sunday January 20, 2019 just before 7:30 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a theft and counterfeit money from a business on Erie Ave.  An unknown male had come into the business, produced a $100.00 bill and asked to purchase lottery tickets.  The clerk opened the tray and the male grabbed a number of tickets and fled the store.  When the male fled he left behind the $100.00 bill which was determined to be counterfeit.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the business where they reviewed surveillance video of the incident.  Officers searched the area and continued the investigation.  The accused was found later that day and arrested without incident.  While dealing with the male he was found in possession of the lottery tickets.  A 44 year old Brantford male has been charged with Using Counterfeit Money and Fraud Under $5000.00 under the Criminal Code.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Incident: On Sunday January 20, 2019 just after 2:30 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a male walking down the street carrying a 2 x 4 piece of lumber.  Investigation revealed that the male had just smashed out the front window to a business on Colborne Street as well as the glass to a bus shelter.  The accused was arrested without incident.  Information was received that the male was currently bound by a court order with conditions.  A 33 year old Brantford male has been charged with Mischief to Property Under $5000.00 x2 and Breach of Probation.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.     
    
Type: Break and Enter - Arrest
Incident: 19-02296
Location: Drummond Street      
Incident: On Friday January 18, 2019 just before 10:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a Break and Enter to a garage on Drummond Street.  Sometime overnight an unknown person(s) had broken into the garage and had taken a large amount of empty beer cans.  The owner of the property later attended the nearby beer store where he observed a suspicious male leaving after returning a large amount of cans.  When the male observed the owner he fled on foot.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence and investigated the Break and Enter.  During that investigation a report was received about a suspicious male in the rear yard at a residence on Grey Street.  Officers attended to the area where they located a male a short distance away hiding behind another residence.  While Officers were dealing with the male a third report was received from a residential complex where a number of mailboxes in the lobby had been pried open and their contents stolen.  Investigation revealed that the male was in possession of property that had been stolen from the residential complex on Dalhousie Street, that he was responsible for the Break and Enter on Drummond Street and was found to be in possession of Break and Enter tools.  Further information was received that the male was currently bound by a court order with conditions that he was contravening.  The accused was arrested without incident.  As a result of the investigations a 29 year old Brantford male has been charged with Break and Enter, Theft Under $5000.00, Mischief to Property Under $5000.00, Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000.00, Possession of Stolen Property Under $5000.00, Possession of Break-In Instruments and Fail to Comply with Recognizance Order.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: King Street      
Incident: On Friday January 11, 2019 Brantford Police Service received a report about a theft of a motor vehicle.  The victim had lent his vehicle to an acquaintance who did not return the vehicle when they were supposed to.  All attempts to have the vehicle returned to the owner had failed.  Community Patrol Officers observed the vehicle being operated on King Street later that day and performed a traffic stop.  When the officers attempted to speak to the parties in the vehicle they fled on foot.  A short foot pursuit was conducted with the male driver who was located a short distance away in a business.  Investigation revealed that the accused had just discarded a loaded semi-automatic handgun in the bathroom of the business and was attempting to flee the area.  The accused was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the male he was found to be in possession of a large amount of money and a knife.  Further investigation revealed a backpack inside the vehicle which contained a large amount of drug paraphernalia and suspected drugs including crack cocaine (street value $1140.00), methamphetamine (street value$4900), fentanyl powder (street value $15,500.00), cocaine (street value $4900.00) and Percocet pills (street value $30.00).  The suspected value of the controlled substances is over $26,000.  Further investigation revealed that the accused was currently bound by court orders with conditions.  As a result of the investigation Shaun Austin Krawiec, a 22 year old Bradford male is charged with Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (crack cocaine), Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (methamphetamine), Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Fentanyl), Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Cocaine) and Possession for the Purpose of Trafficking (Percocet) under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.  The accused is also charged with Careless Storage of Firearm, Possession of Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, Carry Concealed Weapon, Possession of a Firearm, Knowledge of Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm, Possession of Prohibited Ammunition, Possession of Restricted Firearm with Ammunition, Possession of Firearm contrary to Court Order x2 and Breach of Probation.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: Colborne Street       
Incident:  On Friday January 11, 2019 just after 5:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call from a business on Colborne Street.  An unknown female had come into the business and had asked to use the phone.  After using the phone the female became upset and started to threaten to physically harm the staff.  Before leaving the store the female grabbed items, put them in her purse and tried to flee the store.  When staff tried to intervene the female physically assaulted the staff and fled.  Community Patrol Officers attended the area and located the female a short distance away.  The accused was arrested without incident.  A 46 year old Brantford woman is charged with Assault, Utter Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm and Theft Under $5000.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Location: Iroquois Street     
Incident: On Friday January 11, 2019 just after 9:30 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a suspicious male on Iroquois Street.  An unknown male was in the area yelling and screaming, running in and out of traffic and causing a disturbance.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the male.  While speaking with male information was received that he was currently wanted on an outstanding warrant for his arrest and that he was currently bound by court orders with conditions.  The accused was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the accused he was found to be in possession of suspected methamphetamine ($70 value).  A 46 year old Brantford male was arrested on the outstanding warrant and has been further charged with Cause a Disturbance, Breach of Undertaking and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.  He has further been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drug and Substances Act.  The accused was held for a bail hearing.

Incident:  On Saturday January 12, 2019 just before 6:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a possible impaired driver on Colborne Street.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle.  Officers attempted to stop the vehicle however the vehicle initially would not stop.  The vehicle was stopped and Officers spoke to the male driver.  Why speaking to the driver he showed signs of impairment and admitted to having used marihuana.  A roadside demand was given to the driver which he performed.  As a result of the roadside test the driver was arrested.  The accused was transported and he was given the Drug Recognition Evaluation Demand.  As a result of the evaluation a 26 year old Brantford male has been charged with Impaired Operation of Motor Vehicle while Impaired - Drug.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.
