Police Investigate Suspicious Person at Donegal Park

On Tuesday November 26, 2019 at approximately 5:00 p.m. an 11 year old female youth was playing in Donegal Park on Donegal Drive.  The youth was playing in and around the forested area when an unknown male came out of the forest and grabbed her on the shoulder.  When the youth screamed the male fled on foot out of the park. 

The suspect male is described as a white male, between 40-50 years of age, wearing a grey hoodie with hood up and blue jeans. 

The Brantford Police want to make the public aware of this incident and the location it occurred.  Police are continuing to investigate this incident and are asking anyone with information to contact Detective Chad Francis of the Brantford Police Major Crime Unit at 519-756-0113 extension 2272 or Crime Stoppers at 519-750-8477.

Brantford Police Investigate Report of Firearm at a Residence on Colborne Street East

On November 27, 2019 at approximately 9:30 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a   9-1-1 call about a person(s) with a firearm at a residence on Colborne Street East, Brantford.  A group of individuals were seen outside the residence and one of them was seen holding a possible firearm.  Community Patrol Officers, Brantford Police – Emergency Response Team and BPS – K-9 attended to the area where they located the residence and conducted an investigation.  In the interest of public safety, the area was contained and the roads were closed to traffic.  Police were able to make contact with the occupants inside the residence who were co-operative with the investigation.  As a result of the investigation the information was deemed to be unfounded.  There will continue to be a police presence in the area as the investigation is concluded.  The Brantford Police Service would like to thank the public for their patience and understanding while the incident was investigated.

Brantford Police Traffic Unit is Investigating a Serious Motor Vehicle Collision

On November 23rd, 2019 at approximately 2:31pm, members of the Brantford Police Service were dispatched to a serious head on motor vehicle collision on Fairview Drive near Briar Park Road.  Brantford Fire and Brant/Brantford Paramedics were also dispatched to the collision.

Officers arrived at a collision in the eastbound lanes of Fairview Drive.   A 74 year old driver of one of the vehicles was transported by ambulance to the Brantford General Hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries. 

The 74 year old driver from Brantford remains in hospital with serious injuries.

Fairview Drive between West Street and Memorial Drive was closed for several hours during the investigation as members from the Collision Reconstruction Unit processed the collision scene.  All roadways are now open.

The Brantford Police Traffic Unit would like to speak with anyone that has further information regarding this incident. Witnesses are encouraged to contact Constable Kris Reid 519-756-0113 extension 2228.

The Brantford Police Service is scheduled for a site-based assessment as part of a program to achieve accreditation by verifying it meets professional standards.

Administered by the Commission on the Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA) the accreditation program requires agencies to comply with state-of-the-art standards in four basic areas: policy and procedures, administration, operations and support services.

As part of the assessment, agency employees and members of the community are invited to offer comments at the public information session December 11, 2019 between the hours of 5:00pm and 7:00pm.  The session will be conducted in the Community Room located at the Brantford Police station at 344 Elgin Street, Brantford.

Agency employees and the public are also invited to offer comments by calling 519-756-0113 extension 3004 on December 11, 2019 between the hours of 2:00pm and 4:00pm.  Comments will be taken by the Assessment Team.

Telephone comments as well as appearances at the public information session are limited to 10 minutes and must address the agency’s ability to comply with CALEA’s standards.

Brantford Police Charge Male After Gun Fired Inside Residence

Brantford Police Service has charged a male after a firearm was discharged inside a residence.  
On Monday, November 18th, 2019 at approximately 8:30 p.m., Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a possible gunshot sound that was heard at a residential complex on Elgin Street.  
Upon arrival Community Patrol Officers observed a hole in the front door to a unit within the residential complex.  The hole appeared to have been caused by a firearm discharged from within the residence.  Due to the concern for public safety Officers cleared the residence and no one was located inside.  Officers did observe ammunition inside the residence. 
Investigation revealed that the occupant may have left and gone to another location.  Officers attended to that address where they located the resident.  The accused was arrested without incident.  No injuries or victims have been reported at this time from this incident.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions that the accused was currently contravening.  A 40 year old Brantford male has been charged with Possession of a Weapon contrary to a Prohibition Order and Careless Storage of Ammunition under the Criminal Code.

Location:  Colborne Street  
Incident:  On Saturday November 16, 2019 just after 3:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding an assault at an address on Colborne St.  Two males had been at a residence when a verbal argument ensued which turned into a physical altercation.  The accused began to punch and then struck the 35 year old victim with a hammer.  The victim was able to get the accused out of his residence and shut the door when the accused forced his way back into the residence.  The victim fled the residence to a nearby business for safety as the accused chased after him.  The accused continued to threaten to cause bodily harm/death to the victim when an employee attempted to intervene.  The accused then threatened the employee and struck the counter and walls of the business causing damage.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the business where they located and arrested the accused.  The victim was transported to hospital by emergency medical services for non-life threatening injuries.  A 55 year old Brantford male has been charged with Assault with a Weapon, Assault Cause Bodily Harm, Mischief to Property Under $5000 x3,  Utter Threats to Cause Bodily Harm/ Death x2 and Break and Enter with Intent under the Criminal Code.

Location:  Pearl Street  
Incident: On Friday November 15, 2019, at approximately 11:30pm, Brantford Police Service were dispatched to the area of Pearl St & St. James St with regards to a single motor vehicle collision.  Prior to Police arrival, information was received that a dark SUV had struck a tree and the vehicle had subsequently fled the scene.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the suspect vehicle parked on the road a short distance away.  Officers observed that the vehicle had sustained front end damage.  Investigation revealed that occupants from the vehicle had run into a nearby residence.  While Officers were investigating the incident the owner of the vehicle approached and admitted to having operated the vehicle and to being involved in the collision.  Officer’s observed signs of impairment and the accused was arrested.  The accused was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over the legal limit.  A 38 year old Brantford male is charged with Impaired Operation and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:   Bishop Street   
Incident:  On Saturday November 16, 2019 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call regarding a break and enter to a residence on Bishop Street.  An unknown male had been seen on the roof of a neighbouring residence causing damage.  When the male was confronted he tried to climb off the roof causing damage to a vehicle parked in the driveway.  The male then went to a neighbouring residence and began to bang on the rear glass sliding door.  The occupant’s tried to get the male to leave when he kicked and smashed the door gaining entry into the residence.  The male victim attempted to stop the accused while his wife tried to protect the child that was sleeping in the residence.  The accused was able to get to the kitchen where he grabbed a large kitchen knife and cut the victim on his hand.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the residence where they located and arrested the male.  During the arrest the accused resisted, fought and spit at police.  The 26 year old male victim received non-life threatening injuries as a result of the incident.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by two court orders with conditions.  A 29 year old Brantford male is charged with Assault, Assault with Weapon,  Possession Weapons Dangerous, Utter Threats to Cause Bodily Harm/Death, Break, Enter and Commit, Trespass by Night, Assault with Intent to Resist Arrest, Mischief Under $5000 x2 and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.  The accused was held in custody for a bail hearing.

Incident:  On Wednesday November 13, 2019 just before 4:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a 9-1-1 call at a business on Colborne Street.  A male had attended inside the business and started to make threats to physically harm the staff.  The male left but was seen waiting outside the front doors.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the male a short distance away.  The male was arrested without incident after a brief foot pursuit.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions.  A 37 year old Brantford male has been charged with Utter Threats to Cause Death/Bodily Harm, Resist Arrest and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.

Location:  Pearl Street  
Incident:  On Wednesday November 13, 2019 at approximately 3:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a possible impaired driver on Pearl Street.  The vehicle had been seen swerving and cutting people off on the roadway.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle and driver parked on Pearl Street.  While dealing with the driver Officers observed a beer bottle by the driver and he was showing signs of impairment.  The driver was arrested and transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were 2X the legal limit.  As a result of the investigation a 55 year old Troy male has been charged with Operation While Impaired and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  The accused licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.  

Type:   Motor Vehicle Collision – Hit and Run

Location:  Dalhousie Street   
Incident:  On Monday November 11, 2019 at approximately 6:30 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a motor vehicle collision at Dalhousie Street and Stanley Street.  A pick-up truck had been travelling on Dalhousie Street when it ran the red light and struck a vehicle.  The truck continued through the intersection where it mounted the curb and struck a pedestrian.  The truck fled the area and continued down Dalhousie Street.  The truck attempted to turn onto Brock Street when it again left the roadway, and struck a stop sign.  The vehicle failed to stop and continued to flee the area.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the scene where they located the pedestrian and other driver and vehicle that were involved and had been struck.  Emergency Medical Services attended to the scene and transported the victims to hospital with serious non-life threatening injuries.  Information was provided to neighbouring Police Agencies regarding the ongoing investigation.  Investigation revealed that a driving complaint was received by the O.P.P regarding a similar vehicle shortly after the collision occurred.  A short time later the Hamilton Police Service located the vehicle abandoned at a commercial plaza.  The driver of the vehicle contacted them shortly afterwards and turned himself into police.  The driver was arrested and transported to the custody of the Brantford Police.  A 33 year old Hamilton male has been charged with Dangerous Operation of Motor Vehicle Causing Bodily Harm and Fail to Stop at Accident under the Criminal Code.

Crime Brief - November 12, 2019

Location:  Grey Street  
Incident:  On Sunday November 10, 2019 just after 9:30 a.m. Community Patrol Officers observed a vehicle travelling at a high rate of speed on Grey Street.  The vehicle failed to stop at a stop sign at Grey Street and James Ave.  Officers then observed the vehicle fail to stop for two more controlled intersections before coming to a stop.  A male driver was observed in the vehicle.  While speaking to the driver Officers were advised that the vehicle had been taken by the driver without the owner’s consent and that he is currently a suspended driver.  Officers also observed signs of impairment and the driver admitted to recent drug use.  The male was arrested and given a demand to perform a Drug Recognition Evaluation.  Further investigation revealed that the accused had stolen and cashed a check belonging to the owner of the vehicle.  As a result of the Drug Recognition Evaluation and further investigation a 38 year old Brantford male is charged with Impaired Operation, Take Motor Vehicle Without Consent, Fraud Under $5000 and Utter Forged Document under the Criminal Code.  He is further charged with Careless Driving and Drive While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.

Incident:  On Sunday November 10, 2019 just before 4:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about an impaired driver.  A male had attended to a business on Icomm Drive but was denied services due to being intoxicated.  The male was seen getting into a vehicle and leaving the area.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the vehicle parked a short time later.  The driver was seen walking down the street away from the vehicle.  While dealing with the male Officers observed signs of impairment.  The male was arrested and transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were over 2X the legal limit.  A 60 year old Brantford male has been charged with Operation While Impaired and 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:  Terrace Hill Street   
Incident: On Saturday November 9, 2019 at approximately 10:00 p.m. Community Patrol Officers while at the Brantford General Hospital were approached by Security staff who advised that someone had started a fire in the emergency room washroom.  Officers attended and observed smoke and water coming from the washroom as the occupant was trying to stuff wet paper under the door to conceal the smoke.  Officers were able to gain entry into the washroom where they located a male who had started a fire in the washroom sink and there was water all over the floor.  The male was arrested without incident.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by a court order with conditions.  While dealing with the male he was found to be in possession of a credit card that had previously been reported stolen.  A 56 year old Brantford male was charged with Arson, Mischief Under $5000, Possession of Stolen Credit Card and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.

Location:  Lynden Road   
Incident: On Friday November 8, 2019 just before 6:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a fraud call at a business on Lynden Road.  Information had been received that a female was attempting to purchase a vehicle and that the identification used was believed to be false.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the business where they located and spoke to the female.  Investigation revealed that she had produced a false driver’s license and had provided a false name and information.  Further investigation revealed the female was currently bound by two court orders and was wanted on an outstanding warrant for her arrest.  The woman was arrested without incident.  While dealing with the accused she was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspected crystal methamphetamine and fake identification.  A 42 year old Toronto woman has been charged with Attempt Fraud Over $5000, Identity Theft, Obstruct Police and Fail to Comply with Undertaking under the Criminal Code.  She is further charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Location:  West Street  
Incident:  On Saturday November 9, 2019 just after 3:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service received a 9-1-1 call about a possible impaired driver.  A female was seen in the driver’s seat and slumped over the steering wheel of a vehicle parked in the parking lot.  Community Patrol Officers attended and located the vehicle.  Officers observed the female driver slumped over in the driver’s seat and observed drug paraphernalia in her hand.  Officers were able to wake and spoke to the driver.  Officers observed signs of impairment and arrested the driver without incident.  While dealing with the driver she was found to be in possession of a small amount of suspect crack cocaine.  Information was received that the accused was currently bound by three court orders with conditions.  As a result of the investigation a 29 year old Brantford woman has been charged with Impaired Operation, Breach of Recognizance x2 and Breach of Probation under the Criminal Code.  She is further charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

Four Firearms Recovered After Investigation at Alice Street Residence

Brantford Police have recovered four firearms after an investigation at a residence on Alice Street.

On Saturday November 2, 2019 at approximately 12:45 p.m. Brantford Police Service attended along with Emergency Medical Services to a residence on Alice Street in regards to a male who was suffering from a possible drug overdose.  A 47 year old Brantford male was found in medical distress and was transported to hospital in critical condition.  He later passed away due to his medical condition.  The investigation into the death of the male is being handled through the coroner’s office.  Three individuals resided at the residence at the time of the incident.  During the investigation a number of firearms along with ammunition were visibly seen inside the residence.  The firearms were not stored properly and were readily accessible. 

Brantford Police Service Street Crime Unit and Task Force continued to investigate this incident and a search warrant was granted and conducted at the residence.  During the investigation Police located and seized two rifles (one modified, one not displayed in picture), shotguns x2, stock and 2 barrels along with 725 various rounds of ammunition and 5 magazine cartridges.  Police also located a quantity of suspected methamphetamine (street value $1000).  

As a result of the investigation a 24 year old Brantford male and a 19 year old Branford female have been charged with:

1)      Contravention of storage regulations Sec 86(1) CCC x5
2)      Unauthorized possession of firearm Sec 91(1) CCC x4
3)      Possession of firearm knowing its possession is unauthorized Sec 92(1)(a)
          CCC x4
4)      Tampering with serial number Sec 108(1) CCC x1

Crime Brief - November 5, 2019

Incident:  19-42742
Location:   St George Street  
Incident:  On Monday November 4, 2019 just after 3:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision on St George Street and Grand Street.  A pick-up truck had been observed on St George Street when it hit and knocked over the stop sign at the intersection and then left the scene.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the area where they located the suspect vehicle being operate a short distance away.  Officers were able to stop the vehicle and spoke to the male driver.  While speaking to the driver Officers observed signs of impairment and the driver was arrested.  The driver was given a demand for a Drug Recognition Evaluation.  As a result of the evaluation the driver was charged with a number of Criminal Code and Highway Traffic Act Offences.  A 47 year old Brantford male has been charged with Operation While Impaired and Fail To Stop at Accident under the Criminal Code.  He is further charged with Careless Driving and Driver – Fail To Surrender Licence under the Highway Traffic Act and Operate Motor Vehicle – No Insurance under the Compulsory Automobile Insurance Act.  The drivers licence was suspended for 90 days and their vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:  Memorial Drive  
Incident:  On Sunday November 3, 2019 just after 2:00 a.m. Brantford Police Service received a call about a possible impaired driver on Memorial Drive.  Community Patrol Officers responded to the area where they located the vehicle.  Officers performed a traffic stop and spoke to the male driver.  While dealing with the driver Officers observed signs of impairment and a bottle of alcohol was observed in the vehicle.  The driver was given a demand for a roadside screening device.  The driver failed the roadside screening device and was arrested.  The driver was transported in order to provide samples of his breath as required by law.  The accused samples were 2X the legal limit.  A 22 year old Brantford male has been charged with 80 Plus under the Criminal Code.  His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for 7 days.

Location:  Colborne Street West at Oak Street  
Incident:  On Friday November 1, 2019 just before 2:00 p.m. Brantford Police Service responded to a single motor vehicle collision on Colborne Street West at Oak Street.  A male driver had been travelling eastbound on Colborne Street West when he suffered from medical distress and swerved off the road striking a tree.   The driver was transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.  Community Patrol Officers attended to the collision scene and to the hospital where they spoke to the driver.  While dealing with the driver he provided false information to police about his identity.  Investigation revealed that the driver was currently wanted on two outstanding warrants for his arrest; he was currently bound by eight court orders with conditions and was currently a suspended driver.  The driver was also found to be in possession of suspected Fentanyl ($200 street value).  As a result of the investigation a 21 year old Brantford male was arrested on the outstanding warrants and is charged with Obstruct Police, Breach of Probation and Breach of Recognizance under the Criminal Code.  He is also charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act and Drive While Under Suspension under the Highway Traffic Act.
