BPS arrest second man in homicide investigation
UPDATE #3: Inc. # 22-49542
As a result of continued investigation, police have charged a second man with first degree murder in the death of a 68-year-old man who was assaulted at a Market Street residence, Sunday, December 4, 2022.
On December 10, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service Emergency Response Team arrested Calvin CLARKE, 28, of Brantford, in the downtown area. The accused was wanted on an outstanding warrant and is being held in custody pending a bail hearing.
CLARKE also faces assault charges in relation to an incident at a Morton Avenue residence which occurred shortly after the homicide.
A 35-year-old Brantford man, identified as Kevin JELLIS, was initially arrested, and charged for Attempted Murder on December 5, 2022. These charges have been upgraded to Murder – First Degree, after the victim died from his injuries.
Further details relating to the investigation remain the subject of a publication ban.

After continued investigation into the assault of a 68-year-old man at a Market Street residence on December 4, 2022, police have arrested and charged a 35-year-old man from Brantford with Attempted Murder.
The accused was arrested by BPS Monday afternoon in relation to a separate incident in which he is alleged to have assaulted a man at a Morton Avenue residence on the weekend.
At approximately 9:30 a.m., on Sunday, December 4, 2022, members of the Brantford Police Service responded to an assault related call for service at a Morton Avenue residence.
Upon arrival, a 25-year-old male victim was located within the residence and was transported to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
As a result of both incidents, the accused stands charged with the following Criminal Code violations:
- Forcible Confinement
- Assault Cause Bodily Harm
- Attempt to Commit Murder
The accused was held for bail. Due to a publication ban, the name of the accused will not be released.

- Block the access to the onboard diagnostic port to prevent thieves from reprograming the vehicle’s key fob. (A simple device can be purchased online).
- Use a steering wheel locking device to deter theft.
- Place the vehicle key fob inside a radio frequency shielding bag/pouch to block cell signals when not in use. Inside your residence and in a purse or pocket.
- Consider equipping your vehicle with an aftermarket global positioning system (GPS) tracker. The tracker may assist police in locating the vehicle and/or suspects.
- Ensure all keys are accounted for and never left in the vehicle or unattended.
- Lock your vehicle at all times.
- Never leave your vehicle running and unattended.
- Consider purchasing a surveillance system and ensure the quality and function will capture any suspicious activity for a 24-hour period.
